    Force Awakens was too generic and simple for me character, story, and writing wise. If this dude takes it up a notch, I'm fine, but as it stands right now, not very happy

    Well, Rian was my first choice, but Im happy JJ was selected. Without the need to reintroduce the audiences to SW again, Im sure all the "originality" concerns will be adressed.

    Also, who are we kidding? We're all so invested in the ST and its characters because of JJ. He created Rey, Finn, Kylo, Poe.... Im happy with this decision :)

    Well then, that settles that then. He's not the most satisfying choice, but JJ did a pretty great job with TFA.

    Not sure who else they could have picked outside of JJ and Rian at this stage. I gues Rian said "no". :(

    Lucasfilm clearly needed someone reliable, and whatever issues cropped up in the past, Abrams delivered a huge hit, so ultimately no surprise. If I'm not mistaken, back when Abrams was hired to do TFA, he had originally wanted to be the story supervisor / showrunner for the entire trilogy.

    Thinking more on it, this kinda does mirror the OT. Marquand had the official credit for directing RotJ, but didn't Lucas do a huge chunk of the work bts and basically acted as "Shadow Director" so to speak?
