I feel like I'm one of the few people that actually believes this is good news.

I mean, I love TFA. I still do, even after two years. It captured the charm of Star Wars better than I could have imagined and I instantly fell in love with the new characters; Rey, Finn, Poe, and, in a villainous way, Kylo Ren. As soon as I left the theater, I immediately wanted to watch Episode VIII.

Yes, VII is extremely similar to A New Hope. But that was the film that was meant to bring the franchise back into mainstream. It had an enormous pressure on its shoulders so I can understand why they decided to play it safe.

I feel Abrams will have learned from his previous mistakes and make a better film because of it.

In JJ I Trust.

 

The only thing I might be worried about is whether the movies will feel exceedingly different, but that would be as much or more of a problem with three directors as with two. Unless you think that the diversity of three would have just meant that each felt like it grew from the other, while the problem will be excaberated if the tone returns to what it was in Seven. That's assuming that the movies will look different at all.

TFA is great. I love all of the SW films.
My recent mindset has been to not take all of this too seriously.

Some of us have been through so much PT hate and bashing that it can be a real downer. Lately, I've just tried to be more light hearted about it all. I'm sure the rest of the ST is going to be awesome. JJ is a competent director.

 

Trekkies have been singing JJ's praises for years, so we might as well join them.

Power came back about a half hour ago. We didn't get much here except for some gusts. Hermine did more damage last year, although the rest of Florida and the Caribbean islands took the full brunt of Irma.
