Yeah, I'd be pretty surprised if there were many practical starships from Revenge of the Sith. The Battle of Coruscant sequence is all CGI AFAIK. But TPM is chock full of practical ship and vehicle models.

But to be fair, most of my life, I thought the Lucrehulks in orbit over Naboo were CG too. I was blown away when I found out that at least Saak'ak (the command ship the Jedi board and the one Anakin destroys) and the droid landing ships were physical models. But now that I look for it, I can see it.

    Either way it's undeniably cool.

The ship Anakin destroys, the Vuutun Paala, is different from the Saak'Ak.

I stand corrected. I always assumed they were one and the same because Dofine was on both. The movie never gave me enough context clues that they were different vessels.

And to think I thought I knew TPM inside and out by this point, lol.

There's at least one model ship used in ROTS, Padem's Naboo Skiff:

Saw a thread like this for Classic Trilogy but not for Prequel Trilogy.

Here's a pic during filming of The Phantom Menace in Tunisia.

There is the Practical Effects thread, which is basically a catch-all behind the scenes thread now.

Does anyone know here whether the trade federation ships landing on Naboo at the beginning of Episode 1 are models aswell ? Because they look pretty realistic ^^

Now, this is only a shot of it landed in the hangar, so I have no idea whether the versions seen in flight were practical or digital, as with the mystery of the Sith Infiltrator.

Edit: This is kind of ironic, this photo was posted at the top of this very page. :p

Pretty sure that that's on Geonosis in the scene where Obi-Wan spies on Dooku's meeting with the Separatist leaders before his capture.

There’s a reason why TPM is by far the best-looking prequel.

So , I wonder the scenes where the droid ships land on Naboo at the beginning of the film , are the wide-shots of the forest real or computer generated ?

The same when the protagonists travel back to Naboo and you can see the silver ship secretly landing somewhere near the secret place of the Gungans , are the wide-shots of the forest also real or cgi `cause it looks very real ( if it's real where was it shot ? ) ^^

I'm pretty sure the forest shots are location shooting, with CG TF ships composited on. As for the Queen's ship, I'm not sure whether a model was used, or whether it was a CG version for that shot.

Does anyone have any information on how this shot was created?:

Now, the hangar is obviously just the set and the actors are walking through it, but I presume they didn't actually build the giant silver engine taking up most of the hangar. And yet it clearly shows the actor's reflections, so if it's a miniature these reflections are an incredibly well done effect.

In the same vein, how was this shot done?:

The ship could be a miniature, and it just seems unlikely that they built the thing full-sized. But at the same time it looks very clear. So is this just a case of really good compositing, and a very detailed model ship, or did they go to all the work of building it full size for this one scene. (I assume that all of the shots on Tatooine just feature the miniature and a full sized ramp for the actors to stand on)
