Cover of #40 reminds me of another Star Wars heroine, what with the staff and all.

Here's hoping that we are getting closer to ESB.

We are. Hard to say how many issues they will have before getting to ESB but they are definitely on the road there. In the latest annual they were searching for their permanent base. Once the Alliance gets their permanent base they will likely start their mid rim offensive. After a while they will start retreating and ESB will happen when the Rebellion is in full retreat mode.

Hasn't it been made canon that the rebels were only at Echo Base for less than a month before the empire found them?

I wonder if this will push Vader more towards being "obsessed with finding Young Skywalker" or is he there already? Was the probe droid push Imperial to find the new Rebel base or Vader to find Luke? (probably both)

I'm in no hurry for the series to reach ESB, myself. There's plenty of time and plenty of great stories yet to tell with the Big Three in the classic OT timeframe. Why rush it?

    Luke.

For Vader, the rebels are akin to fly-swatting - he can do it all day with ease.

The ST will be finishing up here in about two years and I am sure Marvel is very eager to start telling stories in the open book era that is that time period right now. So when that time comes will they just start up an entirely new ongoing line or will they move the current main line into 4/5/6ABY? If they do move the current line Marvel likely doesn't have any plans on filling up the Empire to Jedi period anytime soon.

What are the odds Luke finds the kyber crystal that becomes his green lightsaber in this story? I know it seems early, but this also the obvious answer. So it ends up something he's been holding on to for a couple years before he makes his lightsaber.

I had a similiar theory. Either he finds his green Kyber crystal already in this arc, or he just finds out that Jedha is rich of Kyber crystals, and then returns to it after TESB to search for a new one.

There was an interview I saw on Twitter that said Wedge was going to be part of this arc. I sincerely hope so, as he has been criminally under IMO. I'm also very intrigued to see what the remaining Partisans think of their Alliance "allies", 'm hoping for more of the tension we saw in RO.

I've honestly been underwhelmed with a lot of the stories Marvel has chosen to tell in their flagship Star Wars series, but I think this new setup will be awesome. The march to TESB and the events that put the Alliance on the ropes will be very interesting to see in a visual medium, I hope they reference the Mid Rim campaign from Twilight Company. Hell... show us Twilight Company. ;)

I've been underwhelmed by the main SW title myself, particularly the characterizations. And I'm a big fan of Jason Aaron's work. I'm looking forward ot this storyline though and hope KG (another writer I like) can do it right.

I guess that's one of those horse things being hauled to Canto Bight in The Legends of Luke Skywalker.
