Keeping fingers crossed for you, Ewok Poet! Things seem to be looking up. (Press pass for TLJ, [face_laugh][face_laugh], go for it!) I'm a little jealous of the ABBA tribute concert. Sounds like fun.

Quick copper tray update: I came home during lunch break to collect some papers I'd forgot and I found the tray all bright and shiny hanging on the wall. So I went downstairs to ask my mum which magician did that, and the answer was the Somali friend who moved in with us a few weeks ago. To quote my mum, "she used up the whole family's pollution quota for decades to come".

I went and asked my friend how she did it, and she said "the Somali way". Turns out she belongs to a clan of blacksmiths, which I never knew until now. So, the Somali way to clean a baaaaadly tarnished metal tray, in case anyone ever needs it:

    1. Cover the tray in rags,
    2. Soak the rags with hydrochloric acid – she used up THREE BOTTLES,
    3. Make sure the rags touch the metal everywhere, i.e. no gaps, no folds, no air bubbles,
    4. Wait a couple of hours (at this point in her explanation, I began to realise it's a miracle I still have a tray at all),
    5. Wipe all the yucky black stuff off the tray, first with the soaked rags, then with clean ones,
    6. Rinse with clean water,
    7. Empty a box of baking soda on the tray, rub in, rinse, repeat,
    8. Wash with dishwashing liquid and rinse, rinse, rinse,
    9. Use up two bottles of Brasso and every single rag you can get your hands on to polish the tray.

Yup. There goes the Chyntuck pollution quota until 2037. But I have a clean tray now with this nice silvery shine on my wall. And no, I don't want to know how she disposed of the rags.

Ewok Poet: Sounds that you are doing well. Keep doing that!

I just lack time & energy to write & read. The newcomers need a lot of support to get familiar with the group. A group that is still not mine, for I am the substitute teacher.

    REVELATION! Supreme Leader Snoke is...
    ...Eli Vanto!
Was reading a discussion of Starkiller base in the TFA thread, and someone mentioned the First Order controlling territory in the Unknown Regions. Who else would have a grudge against the New Republic?

All righty doo! Now taht I ate the pomegranates, sorted out the tray mess and did a bunch of other useful things (like setting up a new bed with a new MATTRESS and my back is very grateful for that!), time to catch up on the last couple of pages of this thread.

AzureAngel2 How is your father doing? I hope everything is okay and his health is improving.

Briannakin Any news on the insulin pump front? I think going back and looking in the non-logical places is your best bet. There's a law of the universe that useful things are *never* in the place where they should be when you need them.

mavjade Too bad about the dog, but as Renata says it means your dog is still out there waiting for you. What's this job you applied for? I hope it's in a place that doesn't ask you to do 24-hour shifts!

Ewok Poet A lot of neat stuff in a single week! But what takes the cake is the ABBA concert!!! (oh, and don't forget to get a pass to go through the start box and collect $200 :p )

Mistress_Renata Now that is a fun theory. Quiet young man, wanted to be a logistics officer all his life, found himself Thrawn's assistant instead and ended up becoming Snoke. Sounds like the kind of thing JJ Abrams would do [face_laugh]

Congrats Ewok Poet ! Things really seem to be looking up!

And congrats Chyn on the copper tray! I'll have to remember that for my studies. My next assignment we have to pick a controversy in the museum studies field and present all the different sides I'M PRETTY sure I'm going to do it on cleaning vs partial cleaning vs embracing patina of artifacts (there's some really interesting European VS North American approaches and I just geek out over these kinds of things - way too much Antiques Roadshow as a kid).

    This is my new theory.

No. I'm going to go back over the weekend and look in some of the weirder places. If I don't find it by the time I get the prescription from the doctor (which might take a millennia), I'll just buy it in January (and max out my deductible for 2018, which is nice). My current pump will be 5 years old in February and you have to replace them every 5 years, so I knew this was coming and have been preparing. Still, free stuff is nice and if I can get it for free, I want to.

Since the entire procedure appears overly difficult and extremely complex, I can only assume she climbed up the treacherous slope of Mount Doom and disposed of the rags in the fires of Mordor. ;)

Apparently Rian Johnson is going to make a new Star Wars trilogy!!

The short answer is it makes me very frustrated and grumpy. :p The job I had where I lived before had its issues, but overall it was great. I had a lot of respect and autonomy, this job I have neither because of the way the department is run. People there are very negative all the time and I think it's really starting to bring me down. They've also given me the run around at every turn and I'm tired of it.
As for the dogs there are actually very few physical dog shelters around here, most dogs are fostered and you have to find them online. We are planning on going to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) shelter this weekend to see who they have. I've heard they mostly only have big dogs, which isn't going to work for us, but we're going to go see.

Congrats on the jobs (I'm absolutely counting the mod as a job)! The writing one might not pay now, but it could lead to something for pay in the future! There are quite a few places online that accept submissions for pay, especially if you have a few articles to show them. And good luck with entrepreneurship! That would be awesome!

It would be a complete change from what I'm currently doing. It's a clinical specialist for a medical device company. Basically I'd be doing education for other RTs, physicians, and patients. While I wouldn't be doing sales, I'd work closely with the sales team and would get commission based on sales. It involves traveling at least once a month for a few days.

The introvert in me is somewhat horrified at the thought, but I do like educating, so I figured I'd give it a shot... well at least applying for it anyway.

TLJ must really be something if he is being given 3 movies even before HIS first episode is out. Though I hope it isn't "episodes 10, 11, 12". I want something like KotOR.

Good luck with the job application Mav. I understand the need for a change in your profession.

The article mav linked to says that the new trilogy will be "separate from the episodic Skywalker saga" and "will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored".

I like how the article concludes with "no porgs were available for comment". [face_laugh]

I wonder what this means for the EU. Does this mean we'll see Karen Gillan as Mara Jade?

I did love the Porg comment!

Yeah, I wouldn't get excited for any old EU characters. If they happen, I'll be pleasantly surprised (like with Thrawn) but I don't expect it. Though I could totally see Karen Gillian as Mara Jade, I'd never thought about her in that role.

I am wondering where you find even ONE bottle of hydrochloric acid?!! [face_hypnotized]

My friend met Rian Johnson at Celebration, said he was super-nice. Wonder where it will go from here... will the Galaxy EVER know peace? A corner of the Galaxy we never saw before... well, it will probably have Jedi or Force users. And please, please, Lords and Ladies, NO FLIPPIN' VONG! Although we have SORT OF seen them before... I suppose it could have to do with the fall out of the First Order vs. the Resistance. It would be fun if it was something that Lor San Tekka had a hand in at one point. Or Dr. Aphra?!

You can buy it on Amazon.com (literally). You can even qualify for a bonus visit from Homeland Security if you buy the hydrochloric acid along with a pressure cooker and ball-bearings. [face_nail_biting]

It's available in home supply stores here and a bottle costs less than fifty cents.

Mistress_Renata You can buy hydrochloric acid in the supermarket anywhere in Europe (nope, not just Balkans this time). I'm sure it's available in the US too, because it's such a common ingredient in detergents (toilet bowl cleaner for instance). Maybe they just sell it under a brand name in the US? I know that in the UK they call it muriatic acid.

Just to be clear though, hydrochloric acid for household use in Europe is never full strength, it's only a 10% solution. My Somali friend commented of course that the acid we have here is "weak" compared to what blacksmiths use in Somalia, which means that she would happily have used up our pollution quota until the end of the century given half a chance.
You owe me a new keyboard and a paint job on the wall behind the computer now. Coffee, coffee everywhere!

A whole new TRILOGY by Rian Johnson? Now I'm even more excited for TLJ than before!

    Thanks to everybody for support.

Moderating the mental health forum has got to be the second most stressful experience I've had after maintaining a celebrity's official website. Today, there have been three people threatening to kill themselves, one person attempting to give them ideas on how to do it and telling them that God will forgive them, and two people arguing. Gah!

Meeting a friend from high school for coffeejuicetea tomorrow afternoon. Have not seen her since 2001, she made it BIG in the meantime.

Didn't go to the show, because I'm all achy today. >_<
