Exactly. I keep seeing the idea that the DLC they're going to be rolling out is "free", well, no, it isn't. Somehow, somewhere, you pay for it - in this game it's with the loot box + microtransactions combo. Which leads to the Q: Is that too high a price 'free' DLC?

For myself, I'd be inclined to say to say yes. Put out a load of DLC packs, set prices at the indiviudual and bundle level - that's then leaving choice up to the player. Deploying a dodgy pay-money-to-be-guaranteed-something really isn't, especially when it's made a core pillar, or even the core pillar of the game.

    "That's good news."

Sadly, the vitriol and hate just continues on the subreddit. There is no pleasing these people judging from the comments. They've simply moved onto the next item on their list of 'why EA is evil'. I sort of get it, it's intoxicating to be swept up in this hysteria.

I wonder how much Rey will be. I'd assume 10K.

Is it only the decent multiplayer gamers that are p***ed with this?

Knew I should have spent more time reviewing my post before submitting and rushing off. I didn't want to suggest that one can't protest both gaming issues and more overtly political problems because as I said, we all have legitimate personal interests and as you were getting at, these business practices have larger implications beyond just "this game feature is annoying and unfair." My comment was a facetious reaction to the outsized backlash on reddit, which lined right up with my general perception of the entitled gamers I've met. Not a fair stereotype, sure, but I wasn't feeling too charitable.

But funny to see this post on the subreddit now. They're all having the same discussion there.

The reviews aren't being kind to the game.

What’s sad is most are saying the actual core gameplay is good and fun. Just brought down by the backwards progression with micro transactions.

Re: protesting this vs. other causes, I actually think it’s a great way to prove out how mass action can drive impact. Apathy many times can be driven by the feeling that your personal contribution would be meaningless— if this situation can show that it’s not, that passionate people coming together can actually move a mega-company to make changes, it can easily lead an otherwise apathetic person/group to take action on other issues.

That said, as someone who doesn’t wanna be a scab while peeps put pressure on EA for more changes, WHEN IS IT SAFE TO BUY THE GAME I’M STILL PUMPED

I'm sure this game will sell plenty of copies, but I do hope that sales are below EA's expectations. It's the only way they'll learn. The 2004 and 2005 games were awesome. All they needed to do was repeat them but in modern 1080p graphics. But no, they had to make it ****.

It was done because Iden was previously 20k to unlock and after the changes she’s now 5k.

You didn't pre-load it or anything? I downloaded digitally and had it all done the night before so I could get home and start it up asap.

Yeah, pretty much. I just took a look at two to three reviews and the same themes recur: Game itself is solid, audio-visual side is strong, single-player story is well done - but then there's the whole progression and loot box system that takes a lightsaber, holds it the wrong way round, switches it on and slices its guts open.

So has anyone tackled on the multiplayer yet? I've surprised myself with actually liking the Officer class now. For the trial and beta I've only stuck to using Specialist and Assault.

Well, I've been using Assault a fair bit. Enough to have unlocked a new weapon for it, anyway. Heavy I have set up with Ion Missile and Turret, though I'm not sure if they even do anything against the MTT's and AT-AT's. I have to say the Officer's shorter-range weapon does suit me more though.
Small nitpick, but why can we not see what map we're on before a start of a match like in the first? At least put the background as the planet we're on instead of just a starscape while on the spawn screen.

Played Jakku GA and Kashyyk Strike Last night. Both beautiful maps. Love the gameplay too.

I want to love the officer but feel they need a battle points buff when helping team mates as at this stage the return is negligible unless I am playing the class wrong.

Overall though the two maps were awesome. I was worried the strike maps would be just smaller portions of the GA maps but it doesn’t appear to be at least with the one I played, Takodana from the beta and comparing videos on YouTube.
