lol anyway, yeah...Zimbabwe pops up in the news every now and again, and pretty it's always about how Mugabe is ****ing up the country. So *shrug* I guess this shouldn't be that surprising. And, with Trump now doing the same to the U.S. this kinda fades into the background noise.

 

It's not really about "Mugabe ****ing up the country." It's a dispute over who will succeed the 93-year-old, and Mugabe is positioning his 50-something-year-old wife to succeed him. The military wants a veteran of the war against Rhodesia to replace Mugabe, and those veterans are being purged from the top ranks of the government. Looks like the article in the first post says as much.

 

Oh okay...kinda went into skimming mode halfway into the article. So if this is a feud within the ruling party, where does that leave the opposition? Would they take one side or the other, or just sit out on the sidelines?

Mugabe hasn't been in the news for over 10 years in Norwegian media. Hearing his name this morning took me back to 2006.

 

Mugabe is under house arrest. He'll probably end up with a bullet in him at some point today.

 

Or booked on a flight out of the country so he's not made a martyr by his supporters.

Might be too naive to think this but I do hope this means a move away from business as usual for Zimbawe and that the people of Zimbawe can become better off in all ways.

 

That would be a good result. However I'm not sure if that will happen if 'The Crocodile' gets into office.
