Yes, I said up until the 20th century and that the conflict was caused by British imperialism (conquest of the area in 1917 followed by the Balfour declaration) which that page actually supports.

The event is perceived by some scholars as the first significant outbreak of violence, eventually leading to the Arab–Israeli conflict three decades later.

original post referred to the foundation of the state of Israel, so it excluded addressing conflict during British control of Mandate Palestine. SuperWatto addressed the post as it was written.

I wasn't refuting you, I was refuting Satele. You may claim what you want, that doesn't make what I posted wrong or what she posted correct.

Sorry, I thought it was pretty clear what she was referring to even if it was wasn't worded well. [face_dunno] After a day of reading/hearing people again call the conflict "thousands" of years old, I guess I am more inclined to defend that point of view.

SuperWatto you're arguing against someone with a history degree. He's got every right to lecture you on this. Don't be VLM in a science thread.

I think it's ok to pay attention to what a post actually says as opposed to what you would like to talk about.

"They believe the anger over Jerusalem could subside before negotiations begin."

Well, Franken did the right thing. Democrats have to set an example for all of Congress when the GOP won't, and maybe Franken's precedent will improve behavior across Congress. Ultimately what we want is a safe and professional working environment in Congress and everywhere else in the U.S. Congress shouldn't be outside the basic rules of professional conduct that HR depts. around the country are supposed to be enforcing.

Jared Kushner, the stupidest presidential advisor in history.

I agree. Franken did the right thing. Sexual abusers should not remain in office. That is why Alabama voters will be foolhardy if they elect Moore.

Donald Trump is, in actuality, a reality host setting official U.S. policy. He must have thought, "Tel Aviv, you're fired. We're on to Jerusalem." #embarassing

More like...diplomacy, peacemaking, negotiating in good faith, and simple decency are all too feminine for conservatives. So they rage against all this, call it "political correctness", and now the world will burn as a result.

Given that I have actually seen comments on news articles, comments that say “I’m glad we don’t have a ***** for President anymore,” I think you’re exactly right.

Cautiousness, consultativeness, peacemaking, negotiation, and the like are looked down upon by many conservatives. This is why they came to love Putin, given how reckless, aggressive, and haughty he is. It's like some sick physical attraction. One of the users on here showed me an article about how many Russians are obsessed with gun rights and religion, and then I was like, "I had suspected this. Confirmed. No wonder Putin placed those horrible anti-LGBTQ laws."

Putin claimed gay people were welcome in the country as longs they "leave the kids alone." It is an age-old lie that gay people and trans people must be pedophiles, and nothing could be further than the truth. I have read articles by neurologists that confirm that there is a genetic reason that pedophiles are attracted to children. One of my tattoo artists said that a social worker had told her that pedophiles cannot change their attraction to kids any more than anyone with a natural orientation (straight, gay, bisexual, whatever) can change their inklings. However, I believe that in some cases pedophiles learned this behavior through being abused themselves, although abuse can cause some people to never want to abuse someone else. The best solution is to arrest them and quarantine them as far away from youth as possible. We incarcerate many people who really ought to not be arrested, but our society allows middle-aged white men who are pedophiles to roam free.

In the case of Roy Moore, he was banned from the mall for a reason, and all the women who came out were brave to do so. Shunning them and denying their story will make matters worse, but Trump is more than happy to jump on that bandwagon. He must relate to his fellow predator. I can't describe how vexed I was when Trump kept saying, "He totally denies it. He denies." And he doesn't like that Doug Jones prosecuted Klansmen. Hell, he denied the knew any of his accusers. But this affects people's lives. Being sexually assaulted sets the assailant's image in a person's mind irrevocably, especially when the abuser goes unpunished.

So CNN's sister station HLN had on as one of Erica Hill's guests a rabid pro - Trump supporter that of course completely denied Trump ever did anything sexually wrong and I just lost all desire to eat anything today.

Jesus Christ, they need to stop giving so much airtime and respectability to these freaks. It's like they have some sick fascination for these people, like someone watching 2 Girls 1 Cup. "Liberal media" my ***.

Franken did the right thing but it still does not excuse what he did in anyway shape or forum as he will live this shame for the rest of his life. i just hope his victims feel 1/10000000000% of justice. And it also gives Trump and especially Moore justification to continue supporting two individuals who have a much much MUCH MUCH MUCH bigger cloud over their head when it comes to this then Al did. As I said to a colleague this morning. Al Franken was under senate review for conduct unbecoming of a senator yet our president is currently being sued (for about the 15th time) for sexual harassment/conduct and yet no congressional investigation. Why? Is the GOP brass so afraid of their party base that they fear a total revolt once and for all even if that investigation turns out to totally excoriate him (which I don’t believe but I am just making a hypothetical argument).

    Game3525

And if you think they are bad, you should see their staff. It was one of the main reasons I left my government job. The amount of sleeeze among staff members would make the characters on Mad Men blush. Of course I leave that cesspool and become a teacher which is feels so filled with sleezes and predators but in this case, it seems like there is more women being charged with sexual misconduct then men.

What a mess up time we live in.

I'm sorry to say this, but I think this issue will soon be politicized like so many others since the GOP politicizes everything, and either way the Dems and/or decent people will be at the losing end of this. Accused Dems will step down, and they will be expected to by other Dems, both voters and fellow politicians. Accused Repubs will not step down, and they will not be expected to by other Republicans, both voters and fellow politicians.

Republicans will probably even stoop so low as to falsely accusing Dems. Is that so hard to believe? In 2000, they accused McCain of fathering a black son in an extramarital affair, and he was a fellow Republican. They made up so much stuff about Obama and HRC that was far worse than this. They've already made up similar allegations for political purposes (Project Veritas, Roy Moore).

Sorry to sound as pessimistic as Appleseed, but it seems to me that the GOP's response to this will hurt the Democrats, make politics even uglier, and mostly undermine any attempt to eliminate sexual harassment in politics.
