Of course you cowards at the New York CRIMES would be afraid to point out that Star Wars has become an SJW propaganda piece pushed by the GLOBALISTS at Disney who are also fluoridating the water supply and they've got these gay bombs that are turning the freaking frogs into gay soyboys. Chemtrails.

There's a new TV Spot out that mentions "VII more days". Avoid it if you're trying to avoid spoilers. There are two cool things in it that I wish I didn't see.

Also, there is a quick TV spot where a porg smashes against the window of the Falcon. I hope that is cut from the final film unless it's better in context, but I very much disliked it in the spot.

It's a good thing Jyn Erso is dead, because she's the fourth least liked character in Star Wars. Rey, Boba Fett and Jar Jar Binks are tied. Seems legit.

    They deserve better
Especially Sir Christopher Lee, who almost single-handedly pulled AOTC out of the fire it had ignited on itself. And with barely any screen time.

    Almost that is.
With more of him & less of everything else the movie would have worked better

"Favorable impression" clearly has two distinct interpretations.

Okay let me break character here for a moment and go with my other, also annoying character of guy who digs up sources and whines about data misrepresentation.

These numbers are accurate insofar as they're a collection of people who responded to the question, and I quote, "Please indicate if you have a favorable or unfavorable impression of each of the following, [Subject]" - with the subject for these particular items being various Star Wars characters - with "Very favorable" or "Somewhat favorable." Counted against a given character in the graphic are "Somewhat unfavorable," "Very unfavorable," "Heard of, No opinion," and secret usual plurality winner for questions concerning pop culture detritus "Never Heard of." There's very little context on the items in question - while you or I, being the sort of turbo-nerds who post on a Star Wars message board with any kind of regularity, would immediately realize we were responding to a bunch of Star Wars characters, the polls also included data gathering about YouTube, demographics, political persuasion, 2012 presidential election pick (presumably to track party preference holdovers), and so on.

Across all eight Star Wars films less than 40% of respondents had seen the movies in question, and the other 60+% were not removed from surveys about the characters. Consequently a character who was named prominently in marketing (Jar-Jar) was more likely to be recognized than someone whose name is somewhat obscure (Mace, Wedge, Jyn) and this more or less pans out in the ballooning "Never Heard of" response numbers. Furthermore, villains (Jabba, Palps, &c.) were pre-disposed towards scoring lower as 1. None of them are as iconic or memorable as Vader and 2. Nobody likes them as people (Jello's unwavering love excepted).

So, the final results? Characters with the most time to soak into cultural osmosis and with the most heroic bits score "highest" in the favorability polls (it helps that they're also the stars of the generally better regarded than PT and ST original films [incidentally people who bothered to see Star Wars tended to like Star Wars films in general to the extent that differences of opinion causing the OT > ST > PT ranking you might also see floating around are barely statistically significant given the ±2 margin of error - make of that what you will!]), characters with the least amount of time or lowest cultural osmosis level sink to the bottom.

There's a somewhat more interesting table where everything competes head-to-head resulting in the boring revelation that everyone likes Empire and Jedi and main characters from those films the most. But I guess "everyone actually does like the original films the best" isn't a clickable headline the way "YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHO LOST TO JAR-JAR" is.

Now where's my goddamn thinkpiece on why Trump voters and Clinton voters tend to like Boba Fett the same amount?
