With Han gone, Luke essentially relegated to Force ghost territory, and Leia more than likely being written out at some point in IX, I think it makes the most sense at this point for Lando to get back in. He would make a good leader within the Resistance. Unfortunately, if he does show up, they'll probably end up killing him off as well.

Either way though, it would be nice to see him again.

Yeah, I thought about him being Finns’ lost dad or something, or having some role with the resistance or even a cameo at the casino. I just find it nuts that he wouldn’t be there for the passing of Han, and there for the others when the chance is there with Billy being alive. Another part of me hopes he doesn’t come on screen because he will most likely get killed off to.

They missed the perfect opportunity to have Lando be one of the allies of the Resistance at the end. Instead, they got no one.

With Ackbar and Holdo dead. And Leia being written out, I think the big thing they're going for is the new generation now being the leaders.

Poe will be in charge of the Resistance.

Rey is in charge of continuing the Jedi.
Kylo killed Snoke and now he along with Hux (under him) control the FO.

There's no reason to go backwards now.

This. It would have been cool to see him with the Resistance, supporting, even if it was just through a screen. If you wanted to have him go back to his routes, go the Cantino Bright seen. That would have been interesting for him to be eyeing Rose and Finn wondering wtf is going on? But nope nothing. Surprisingly to since Billy Dee has been doing Rebels and I've been in the same room as him saying that he hasn't been called for sequel trilogy work and would be open to returning. But like Blastaar says, I don't want to see anymore OT characters die just to move the plot forward. Let him be in peace in Cloud City.

Given that we haven't seen him (let alone mentioned) in the first two entries of the ST, I doubt he'll be back. As much as I'd love to see Billy Dee Williams reprise his role, they're probably going to leave out his character again.

So was Yoda and they gave him a hover chair, but the old problem of ageism is as strong as ever in Hollywood, they don't want to be reminded of their own mortality.

In JJ's hands yes I think there's a good chance of seeing Lando in 9. I doubt it'll be more than one scene though, and it might even be a blink and you miss him moment with one line or something. Would still love to see it, and Lobot, too.

Maybe if 9 opens with a funeral or parade for Leia, we could get a glimpse of Lando there. Or with Akbar dead, too, maybe Lando swoops in commanding a few additional ships in the final space battle.

I agree with you sentiment. It's a sad commentary when we have to hope an original trilogy character does not appear in the ST so they are not killed.

It was a missed opportunity to not see Lando on Canto Bight. A gambler, smuggler, and old smoothie would have fit in well there and made the Canto Bight side story somewhat relevant.

Or he'd have fit better in the role Maz had in TLJ...Poe dials up the screen and asks Lando where to find a certain slicer sympathetic to the Resistance and Lando gives them the info they need. "He's a little crazy, but he's got no love for the First Order, I can tell you that. He helped Han and I out of a few jams over the years...and tell Leia, I love her" ha ha.

I just went online and they have pictures of him from the National Enquirer earlier in the year walking with a cane. Apparently, he has bad arthritis, but I am sure he could do a brief cameo. He would not even have to stand. He could appear sitting at a table or behind a desk.

Maybe a cameo. Maybe if Leia passes and there is a ceremony. And afterwards the heroes need some information from Lando about someone or something.

Or maybe Bespin falls under attack.

Maz's cameo was practically my favorite bit of action in the movie. I love how she was all like "hold on" and "just a sec", as she blasted someone or wrecked some fool who tried run up on her. She even had a jet pack on. It was funny as well as entertaining for me.

I took it more as a perfect set up for the possibility of Lando in IX. I think we will FF 1-3 years ahead when IX opens...maybe starting with Leia's funeral.

    Bump.

Assuming we see a funeral for Leia, I'd be quite disappointed if Lando wasn't in attendance. He could offer his services to the resistance and show up in a victory celebration. Billy Dee isn't in the best shape for any action sequences and I can't believe they'd be stupid enough to kill his character. Please give us Lando and let him live.

I think Lando in a golden hover chair would be the greatest thing ever.
