I seem to be having a bout of insomnia and now my fancy diffuser of type four (as seen here) just went kaput. The glass part broke. Turned out I've had a decent one of type five, which I didn't know was a diffuser.

So...

Sweet orange?
"Fresh water"?
Cherry?
Cinnamon?
Rose?
Eucalyptus?

I totally need bergamot. Absolutely. Must have it. Because BERGAMOT.

And if anybody asks why lavender is missing - yuck, lavender. No way, José.

A bit late but, a merry Christmas @Ewok Poet.

 

Late to the party again but Merry Christmas @Ewok Poet @FireKeeper and everyone else who celebrated yesterday! And welcome to fanfic @It Is Your Destiny and @Glimmer of Hope!

My first working day of the year was, ahem, peculiar.

The good news is that I officially have an assistant, a great guy who volunteered with us in 2015 and graduated from law school in the meantime.

The bad news is that the French woman turned up in my office looking for me. At first she was all smiles "I saw you were coming back from vacation today so I thought I'd stop by" and within minutes in all turned into very loud drama.

I hope I'll still have an assistant tomorrow because he seemed to be wondering what he was doing in that madhouse.

On the weather front, today was a mild and sunny spring day, which doesn't make sense at all in January.

 

^ Why was the French woman looking for you? Was she a client?

 

@Chyntuck - Does your office not have security?

If I worked with you, I'd have escorted her out. And after what happened to you before, I'd have shut it down fairly fast.

 

I'm glad you now have an assistant Chyn, and I hope he's still around tomorrow. At least he got an... interesting first day. And I hope you didn't get wound up in her drama too much.

Ugh, so I had every intention yesterday to wake up early and get a ton done today, but I woke up this morning at like 5 AM (which was much earlier than I had intended) in pain. I went NOOOOPE, took some stuff and went back to bed, slept through my alarm and now I'm up but I have very little motivation to work. I'm thinking about going up to the library again, but it snowed all weekend and I just don't want to deal with that. BUUUUUTTT, it's supposed to get down to like -25C later this week - we were mostly spared from the great freeze here in the North West... but it's the North West, we are going to suffer anyways. So do I deal with the cold or the snow.

 

@Briannakin - hope you're feeling better.
@Chyntuck - oh for nerf's sake...hopefully, your assistant will see beyond the French invasion there and be back tomorrow.

All is good here...so no complaints.

Welcome to the JCF and fanfic @Glimmer of Hope! As others have pointed out, there's plenty of fanfic to be had, and lots of challenges to exercise your writing muscles.

Oh no, Chyn! I hope you have an assistant tomorrow! I second the thought of security if you have it. She might need to be banned from the building.

Bri- I hope you are feeling better now! You might have been spared the great freeze, but that's really cold!

 

@Nehru_Amidala We're talking about the same woman who was harassing me on email the last few days.

@Sith-I-5 I don't think that what we have for security would qualify as security in London Generally speaking it's pretty lax and the truth is that, because I didn't want the email story to go through the rumour mill, I didn't tell anyone about it. So when she turned up and said "I'm person so-and-so from organisation so-and-so and I want to see Chyn" they just let her in. We did summon the tall bodybuilt dude from the ground floor to escort her out once things got out of hand, and I was amazed at how good he is at his job. He acts more like a mediator than a security guard. I shouldn't be surprised though; back in 2015 we had once a near-riot of refugees in the reception as he was arriving for his shift and he defused the situation without batting an eyelid. In the end people were exchanging phone numbers and planning to meet up for lunch.

My boss told me that she'd talk directly with the woman's boss, because at one point she threatened that she'd reject any refugee resettlement file coming from our organisation if I didn't go for coffee with her then and there. Which would be, ahem, a problem, since France is virtually the only country that processes resettlement cases with a minimal form of expediency.

 

There was a lot to do as soon as I got in the office.
- a couple of invoices' queries;
- someone had dumped 16 boxes of member files, that I was expected to process for forwarding to our archives. I got rid of five. The rest are either to heavy for our archive company, or the boxes were broken.
- creditor reports to sort through.
- see what historic files we had for a query.

But first, I couldn't remember my password to login, and had to find an IT bod who made me create a new one on the fly, at his desk.

 

All I want in life is for Ewan to be trolling everyone when he says "there is nothing confirmed yet". I want him to be in an Obi-Wan movie SOOOOO MUCH.

Anyways, I am feeling a bit better, so I probably should head to the library... after my laptop charges. I thought I'd rather the cold than the snow, but I need to get SOMETHING DONE.

Chyn, I'm glad you had other people to deal with her. The body built dude sounds very proficient at his job. And I'm glad your boss is dealing with it. She sounds like a headache.

 

It's late this year or early next. Ewan's giving an interview from the set of his latest movie. He's wearing a longer beard, streaked with gray and wearing white desert garb. "Of course, I'd love to be in an Obi-Wan movie if it happens."

In the background an extra in an Ithorian costume walks by.

I'm not sure the place to post this, but I was wondering if there were any writing challenges I could take part in right away? I need something to get my creative juices flowing.

 

@Glimmer of Hope This would probably be a better question for the Writer's Desk, since it's basically a writing question, but I'll go ahead and give you a few here. There are many more challenges out there than I've listed and new ones happen with relative frequency.

The OTP Thread has a challenge right now. (Link is to the current challenge)
The Sea Shanty Challenge still has spots.
As does the Memorable Melodies challenge

For somewhat bigger challenges:
The Dear Diary Challenge is still in the entry state and will have another in July (for half diaries)
The Drabble Challenge can be started at anytime

 

Good news, we got our water meter fixed so that means we have running water again!

 

The OTP and Drabble challenge look like they'd be right up my alley! I'll get to work on one!

The weather where I'm at is crazy! In the 40s to low 70s, which is normal and what I love to like 80s again?! Then once we hit late April, early May, and crack 90 degrees, that's it for way way too long!

I say "supposed" because cleaning up that post and moving dead challenges to the archive section of the index has been on my to-do list for a while and some of the challenges may have run out of prompts, but you'll see that in the opening post of each challenge thread. Also, if you're just looking for prompts and not necessarily for a current challenge, you'll also find starting in this post an index of dead challenges. For instance, there have been 8 drabble challenges over the years, so that's 800 prompts right there
