McDonnel-Douglas F-4 Phantom II, aka "Double Ugly", in RAF markings, flaps down and afterburners lit, so probably soon after takeoff. During Desert Storm, I saw a few of the last F-4s to fly combat, the RF-4 reconnaissance planes. What a legacy that plane has.

"Memories Of The Future" Terrifying Photos Of Hong Kong's Urban Sprawl

Looking for travel inspiration? Portuguese photographer Nuno Assis’s work is sure to give you a few ideas. This is "Memories of the Future".

Now based in Hong Kong, his work captures the overwhelming sprawl of block apartments, hidden courtyards, and zigzagging power lines which are so iconic to the island city. The cluttered chaos is charming and the geometric buildings add a sculptural element.

"To see the city through photography is a creative opportunity," Assis says. "And it's also a motivation to travel."



For Assis, travel is always better with a buddy. He's a social guy, which also played into his decision to move to Hong Kong.

"I went on holiday recently, and picked a city where I knew I would have people from the community showing me around," he says, referring to friends he made through Instagram.

"The community is a strong motivation. Now I rarely travel alone."

What's his favorite spot to shoot? Assis heads to Hac Sa Wan (Areia Preta), just west of Hong Kong.

No grass, no trees, no lake or river, hardly any sky... You couldn't pay me enough to make me live in a place like that.

 

I see they have air conditioning. I'd like to see the interior.

Sai Kung is in the new territories, about 45mins from Mongkok/Kowloon where those pictures were taken.
