@Master_Lok - At least the unemployment is handled well over there. I freelanced most of my adult life and, according to the Kafka-esque rules and regulations here, I'm "uneducated", so if I was to apply at the unemployment office, they would assign me to something that would pay less than my mom's pension. My viable options are to aggressively introduce myself to various IT companies, or continue freelancing. The earlier could result in complete change of my lifestyle and much-feared socialisation with brogrammers, the latter means more stress, performance anxiety on various freelancing websites, competing to people who offer their services for ridiculous hourly rates, like, $3 per hour. Ironically, our lowest hour rate, at blue collar type of jobs, is even smaller...but hey, if I wanted to work in a grocery store for 200 bucks per month, I would have been doing it by now, don't you think?

I have big plans with my startup idea, I want to publish some poetry, I want to eventually go back to the university someday and get my MA in Italian language and literature, but none of that can happen without steady income and a structured life. So, why the heck do I care about my unpaid articles for a magazine the owners of which are probably more than delusional about its popularity? I only got seven shares from today's column and it's my best, by far - a satire of new media, social networking in particular.

On top of that, I went to my GP to get the prescriptions for Prozac and Lamictal. She claimed that my health insurance had expired on December 19th, despite the fact that it worked perfectly fine at the hospital this morning. She refused to prescribe me Lamictal and told me to go to the health insurance bureau tomorrow. I have ten pills left, for five days, and mood stabilisers are also antiepileptics and they can screw up even us who don't have epilepsy, if not taken.

The best part? The health insurance ID worked perfectly at the pharmacy, too. So, yeah, I don't want to argue with this woman, I will go there tomorrow and probably stand in line solely to be told that everything's A-OK.:kylosaber:

And theen I got home and our neighbour next door freaked us out with the news that the utility bills increased by some 15%. Apparently, it's the electricity used in shared spaces, such as the stairway and the basement. This just cannot be, our radiator sub-stations and light automatically turn off. The people from the big house next to our building have got to be leeching from us again.

So, yeah, I'm down. Good that I wrote a crack!fic before all of this happened. Now I'm in the mood for something grim, grim, grim...

Always say YES to crepes. And potatoes. Or, why not have both and eat latkes?=P~

    Hi,

I used to be active around here many years ago. Like many I’ve been drawn back into Star Wars a little more lately by The Last Jedi coming out. I’m happy to see my old stomping grounds are still going strong. I may get back into writing and maybe not. I’ve always wanted to write something from the POV of the maintenance guys who work on the X-wings or TIE fighters. I am an aircraft maintainer by trade so I could definitely draw on real world experience.

I have looked around a bit and see that with the move to the new boards that some old posts got truncated. It did effect my old stuff from the old boards. I don’t know if I have that backed up anywhere. I hope so. If not I will be genuinely saddened that I lost it. Especially the last couple I posted. Those were dark stories but I think of them as the best I have ever written. I’ll definitely look around on my computers and check it out.

Anyway. Just wanted to say hello everyone. Are there any old timers still around from the 8-10 years ago timeframe? Or 17! since my account is that old. Where did the time go?

    Joe

I'm an oldie, @lordmaul13! Most of my backups are hardcopies, since my old computer died shortly after I took a hiatus (and spent most of it sucked into the Sims 3). It's a good excuse to write something new. :D

Thanks for the welcome! This always was a great community and I actually do think I remember your name from back then. I had some pretty good friends who I would love to see around here again. I'm just sitting here reminiscing and not typing anything. :p

Looks like I have most of my stuff. I'm going to have to go digging around old hard drives for one. Of course it's the middle of three and the third is only started. I think I'm back, at least for a little while. :)

I made latkes for the first time during Hanukkah and broke our food processor. It was pretty old and I don't think I actually broke it, but it broke while I was trying to shred potatoes the easy way. I ended up having to shred most of them by hand. I HATE shredding things.

Welcome back! There are quite of few of us still around fanfic or who have come back since the new movies.
I always love it when people jump back in here when they've been gone for awhile! :D

As for your truncated fics, some people have had luck getting their old stuff with the wayback machine and people are often happy to help look for them in the "Looking for fics" thread.

Welcome back @lordmaul13! If you need help looking up any old fics you don't have backups for on the Wayback Machine, don't hesitate to PM me or my husband @Mr Chyntuckopoulos – the Wayback Machine can be a little hit-and-miss but he has a handy giant spreadsheet that makes things easy to find.

@Mistress_Renata A million positive thoughts and happy beeps for your dad, and wishes for a quick recovery! To cheer you up: I dreamt last night that I was a character in your fic about Lando and his daughters. I don't remember the details, but it was a wild ride.

Unemployment - ugh. Sorry about the job situation. Cannot believe I have been up for two hours already.

And the utilities- meh. Hope that is not true.

    Latkes yeah why not?

Yeah, my health insurance ran out last August - so whenever I get a full time job, have to look into that again.

I would like to learn Italian too (all my Italian genre movie watching since uh 1981), but that will have to wait.

Okay I am going to try to get 90 minutes of sleep in before getting up again for this appt.

    Hi ho hummmmmm

@Mistress_Renata - glad to hear dad came through okay.

Waves to everyone and @lordmaul13 (I'd be very interested in reading a story from a X-Wing or T.I.E. Fighter mechanic's point of view.) And hopefully reading more here (my time on these boards will be very limited so I will try to read something when I have to purge the DRL when I can.) I've been ridiculously impressed by the content here, so write on folks. =D=

Have to practice the usual office skills, but will write or draw something later. The unemployment office visit was [face_sick] but I am grateful it's over and that with the 3rd rep, I finally got someone who was half way sympathetic and listened.

@Gamiel Are you going to submit? You write in a gamer's style (what little I've read anyway.) Ah, Warhammer. I was something of a 40k addict back when my still favorite band Bolt Thrower were deep into Warhammer 40k in the late 80s (World Eaters, baby.) Anyway, I've read some of the Black Libraries' Space Marines novels (especially the Space Wolves - because wolf gene and Cyborgian future viking marines, um, YES please.) I see Viking, and/or Russian super soldiers and my imagination goes through the Eye of Terror. :p But, I'm supremely rusty and that universe has warped considerably since almost 30 years ago.

Reels self back to board here.

I saw our local Blue Jay 2x today. I scared it by squeeing "Blue Jay!" Yeah, I am becoming a bird fan. It's so nice to see them...feel like we haven't quite eradicated nature in all her glory just yet.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a stellar afternoon/evening etc.

Can we have a conversation that doesn't involve potatoes these days? I think they're becoming the new goats of the social thread. I need to photoshop a Mace Windu potato goat now. 100% legit species. [face_rofl][face_rofl][face_rofl]

    *ahem*

@Mistress_Renata - I'm glad that dad's operation went well and that he's recovering.

    @lordmaul13 - Welcome back. :)

@Master_Lok - I keep on forgetting to ask - what is your profession and is it in demand?

Here, the people with no health insurance are rare. Basically, folks who work for bosses who sign them up for it and then sign them off the next day. I can't wait for them to get what they deserve. B******* word in a non-dictionary definition goes here. [face_waiting]

Anyway, this day started out the same way yesterday ended, in a super-grim way. And then, three people from here, unexpectedly, made it GREAT. I've turned on my ball-like colourful holiday light, my little interval-changing yellow lights (those typically seen in fancy photos of teenagers' rooms) and am burning some cherry oil on my pretty diffuser. Hope that this is the day things change, for the better. [face_idea]

    Overwhelmed. Can't think, at all.

P.S. Guess what I bought at the supermarket today? :p

After about three weeks, I remembered how to say "hello, how are you?" to someone, and successfully did it. Smiles all around.

We got a new daytime cleaner at work, only speaks Spanish. Fortunately, I did a course in about 2006, but I am well rusty.

    @Ewok Poet - could it be porg-tatoes?!? :p

My profession: Library Assistant, no, it is not in demand especially if you do not have a four year degree (I have the two year degree and am kicking myself it wasn't for Paralegal or Adminstrative Assistant. So I am trying to brush up on other skills to eventually get a job at New York University as an Adminstrative Aide (Assistant).)

And I come home from Unemployment Office to find: another appointment letter for NEXT week. :mad:If you do not attend these, your Unemployment Benefits will be cut off. I emailed the one helpful rep I had today to ask her if I could meet with her that day. Since I do not drive it's tricky.

As far as health insurance, I thought I'd have a job by now with coverage, but not yet. Okay, now that I've vented my spleen...waiting to talk to older sister about something.

What a day, I am bushed. I am certain we have two little boys at my afternoon worksite (I work for my county school system's before and after care program) who must have some form of LD or something because they were all over the place this afternoon and would not listen to what the staff asked them to do.

I just wanted to say again, thank you to everyone for the welcome back. It's like coming back and meeting up with a friend you haven't seen in years.

Also, I wanted to single out @mavjade for the wayback machine suggestion. I didn't find what I was looking for but it was a fun, albeit bittersweet, trip down memory lane. I really enjoyed seeing the old banner we had across the top of the site. I miss a different banner across the top of every forum. I especially liked seeing the author names that I had forgotten. I was like, "Oh yeah, I remember that guy!" I didn't necessarily remember what they specifically had written but I remembered looking out for their stories and reading them. Seriously, everyone here who is here, having the time of their lives writing and making friends, please take an extra moment just to enjoy what you're doing here because one day you may look up and your account is old enough to drive a car. You've been gone so long there are, if you're lucky, a couple names you recognize. And you wonder how did this happen? How did I let this happen? You might miss what you didn't even realize you had once it's gone.

Lastly, I wanted to publicly say @Chyntuck is my hero. ^:)^ You did what I couldn't do or didn't work hard enough to find. Thank you again for working some kind of devil magic and recovering my story from the depths of the truncated story abyss for me. =D= Thanks to you I don't have to reinvent what was already accomplished.

Now the plot bunnies must multiply. I have a trilogy to finish and a maintainer story to begin.

@Nehru_Amidala - After what you said yesterday, you totally deserve a nice weekend!

@Cowgirl Jedi 1701 - This immediately makes me think of this song that mocks neo-Nazis:
    Code:
    http://lyricstranslate.com/en/schrei-nach-liebe-cry-love.html
Coded, because the curse for "anus" is in it. But it's an amazing, amazing song.

@Master_Lok - Can somebody give you a ride to that appointment?

    ...

I'm still overwhelmed from yesterday. Woke up and realised that there's no way I could go and wait in line to renew health insurance. Went to the pharmacy, the pharmacist who calls me "my favourite girl" was there and I explained that yesterday shook me, positively, but still, shook me. She winked, changed something in my records and handed me a 30-pack of Lamictal. Now I don't have to renew insurance until I've come down from this natural high. People are AWESOME indeed. [face_dancing][face_dancing][face_dancing]

A girl on another forum, who's a serial complainer and doesn't have any problems, so one has to wonder WHY she's even there, laughed and said that she never heard of somebody get panicky over positive things. Well, put a sock in it.

So, today I'm going to go through some documents, then work on the fic-gift and comments for others - hopefully. I have one more bath oil from Lush, so, that is an option for later, too.

I plan to try at least, there is some time to prepare after all.

You could use some of the Chapters, Regiments, Ordos, Warbands, etc. that are only a name and maybe something more* and more or less do your own thing. I myself was thinking of using the Skull Bearers against abhuman renegades or maybe having a goup of Ordo Xeno agents trying to find who among the the imperial nobility is an xeno-vampire.

*Like the Imperial Talons, Persecutors of Darkness, Death Eagles, Nordian Berserkers, Kallistan Rifles, Ezeltil Lancers, Ordo Aegis, Ordo Scriptus, Ordo Sanctorum, Nightkillers, Steel Cobras, Extinction Angels, etc.

You said "see Viking, and/or Russian super soldiers" and among the that IG regiments nearly nothing has been written about isthe Nordian Berserkers who are viking-ish; and among the SM Chapters are there: the Celebrants chapter's chapter symbol could be seen as resemble the Soviet star and you could use that as inspiration for writing them in a Soviet fashion; the Dark Angels are as made to have a successor chapter that is modeled after the Oprichnik and the Persecutors of Darkness and Repentant Brotherhood have fitting names and little else about them.

If you're interested in using one of those "only a name and maybe something more" Chapters and make up your own stuff would I also suggest looking at this thread for ideas how to make them a bit more then just a one idea/consept Chapter.

That's impressive. I appreciate the extensive reply and your ideas!=D=

I just embarked on a RL thing that will mean very little time for writing for fun (I don't want to actually say it as I've jinxed myself so many times over the past 7 years.) I am going to save your post though just for future reference. I like your idea and I hope you get picked. [face_praying]

@Ewok Poet - transport to the Unemployment Office, yes. Did a trial run yesterday. It's less the transport rather than being there. I apparently have to continue to go for every single appointment until this potential extension gets approved (which could take months.)
