Yet the original movies all get a U/G rating, as does TPM.
AOTC gets a PG rating, and ROTS gets a 12A/PG-13

After that, all the new movies have been rated 12A/PG-13 despite not really being any more or less violent than previous movies.
Aside from one shot with blood near the start of TFA, I see no reason the movies can't be PG.

ROTS showed a man being burned alive, so I get why that might require a higher rating.

Are movie ratings people just more sensitive now?

A lot of movies that I'm sure got 18/NC17 certificates years ago don't anymore.

And similar movies released now, especially horror, seem to only get a 15/R rating.
It seems that levels of violence & swearing are tolerated a lot more than they used to be with the modern audience, and that's mostly reflected in ratings for movies aimed at maturer audiences.

But for younger audiences it seems like the raters are increasing the age restrictions on major movies even if they're mostly aimed at young people (like Star Wars or the Superhero stuff).

AOTC for example got a PG rating in the UK, but some stuff was cut out which was permitted in the US release (the Jango headbutt on Obi Wan for example).
That seems a pretty minor piece of violence to cut from a movie where someone later has their lower arm cut off & someone else is decapitated.

yeah the British censor has always had a thing about head-butts , they consider it imitative behaviour , they even cut a couple from The Matrix and that was a 15 anyway , the headbutts would've gotten it an 18 .

    Makes no sense.
Punches could be imitated, they don't get cut.

And that doesn't explain why movies with no major increase in violent content now get a higher rating than previous entries in the same franchise.

MCU I get, they swear & there's more blood.

Maybe it's just the default ratings now & only kids movies or animation get PG.

I'll decide whether I watch it based on whether people say its good or not. If it looks good, I won't watch it. If it makes the movie look terrible, I'll watch it.

The first trailer will be a voiceover from Jabba saying, "Oh ho ho... Solo." And then the title appears on a black background.

For me it's down to how convincing Alden is as Solo. If he's nothing like Harrison Ford then it will be so distracting & ruin the movie regardless of how much good stuff is in it.
Same with Glover as Lando. Looking the part is not enough

All I can see is a complete miscast. I don't see a young Han Solo.

I’m looking fwd to it. I’m in the mood for a lighter non-epic SW movie.

I wanted Anthony Ingruber. I guess we'll see how Alden does.
