X-Wing is still waiting on news for their next wave, and they get news like 2-3 times faster than Armada.

That's great news. I'm looking forward to both of these. I wish we had releases more often, seems Armada is the forgotten child at FFG.

Dawn of Rebellion appears to be not coming out until the end of March, unfortunately. (Although this is according to Amazon, which is not always reliable - but better than CoolStuff, which still has December 2017)

Oh the Witcher wiki is terrible. I fixed up their mistranslation of Beauclair and they were questioning if it was accurate and sources please to talk about the light in France. As if the Barbizon school was made up; as if you couldn't see the differences between when van Gogh (not ever, ever correctly pronounced "van Go", Americans, stop it) was in the Nederlands vs when he arrived in Arles. Uncultured, untravelled swine.

As for Wookiepedia; the simplest answer is they're morons. I don't care if anyone here is an Wookiepedia admin and is offended; you're using an RPG as canon when the developers of that RPG said it isn't and wasn't intended that way. There's no better word for it.

@Noash_Retrac - the biggest issue we have is that WEG built a world for RPGs, it became the basis of the Zahn EU, and as a result non-RPGers have been cocking up the game since. FFG have said they produce games and information designed to make that game fun. If they draw from Legends to do that, it's not a statement of intent. It's not an attempt to reinsert something. Keith Kappel said it best; they're interested in giving gamemasters and players the best possible set of tools to tell a story, and if it conflicts with canon, oh well, here's an elaborate shrug.

As Positive Fan put it, they're aside from Canon and Legends. They're making information for the sole purpose of gaming. CCG, CMG, wargaming or roleplaying. That's their audience. They don't even care about the strange people who buy the books to never ever play the game; they're a nice to have, and it's revenue, but they're not the core audience and won't be catered to.

So just assume that you have a technical manual for how to play a game, not an encyclopedia of canon, and it'll make sense to you.

    For @AdmiralNick22 - https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2018/1/17/hes-going-to-fight/

I'm glad you said force users and not Jedi, because managing expectations around FaD is always a challenge. You're basically Kyle Katarn from Dark Forces II or Rey from TFA, not a paper-thin, one trick flipping out space ninja pony, and even knight level play can't give you prequel Jedi. I mean, for one, it's a narrative dice system so you have to have some semblance of character in there... :D

But yeah, the 3 book system is the best way to really get the most authentic feeling experience. The only hitch is that morality is a stupid mechanic vs obligation and duty, and it's easy to just not be a murder hobo and get paragon rating. I'd always recommend GMs give the force users obligation or duty in addition to morality, and penalise them for not playing moral choices like a real person and not an aforementioned one-dimensional prequel Jedi.

Nobody outside of Wookiepedia admins and people in this forum seem to struggle as much. The RPG is clear about what it does, and very few on the FFG boards have trouble with the concept. The biggest single promotion piece for the game is d20 Radio and the Order 66 podcast and they're across the 'canon' point. I agree with your concerns but I think the minority have issues with canon and the real problem is thost Wookiepedia numpties cocking it up for everyone.

And no, the TFA thing wasn't "downgraded". It was always intended as a beginner's game because it would pull in people interested in the latest film to the games. It is useful for getting First Order stormtrooper stats though...

I didn't do much with it when I ran and the current GM probably won't either. I gave him a lightsaber with no crystal at the end of my adventure and left it for future GMs to pursue.

The vast majority of people don't give a damn about any sort of canon, I would imagine. But regardless, I'm done talking about it in this thread; I'd rather discuss just the RPG itself here, and I've had the proverbial illumination on the road to Damascus as it were about my own interest in Star Wars. Probably not in a direction that you would be particularly happy about, but at least I'll be buying my first bit of Star Wars outside of the RPG since the Disney buyout.

I might use that, or something similar. Some background info: I played the beginner's game with some friends over a year ago and actually posted about it in this thread. We were all super busy, but I'm thinking it might be time to try it again. (Though it might just be me GM-ing for a friend who controls his PC and then has robot npc allies he also controls).

The morality system does seem a bit off to me from what I've been reading. After all, Anakin's fall to the dark side involved SEVERAL emotional strengths and weaknesses, and he didn't exhibit all of them all the time. And having to keep track of every single morally questionable thing the pc's do (or manufacture Bioware style Moral Choices all the time) seems like a pain. Obligation seems a bit better to me because it provides a goal and focus. ("I want to get this bounty hunter off my back" "I want to pay off my boss", ect.). But I'm a little wary of it too. Having a scale measuring obligation, and rolling dice to activate an obligation seems so . . . inorganic to me. I'm thinking I might do a more "informal" obligation system. No keeping track of it and no rolling for it, just asking the player/players "what's your main goal/motivation?" and finding opportunities to work those goals into the story.

    Well you are in luck.

    1) Compare your PCs to pre-Jedi Outcast nonsense Kyle. They're not prequel level Jedi, and my gripes over those films aside factually they were indoctrinated from birth. Your players shouldn't be, and should play it. Stealing a speeder is something they would do, shouldn't, and should generate conflict.

    2) To #1's point, listen to this: http://podbay.fm/show/276381727/e/1457282100?autostart=1

Also episode 95, the "Cabbage of Conflict" of that podcast - these will both help you play morality well.

The main issue is more it's easy to get to 75 - and thus, light side paragon - when you're playing with duty or obligation bound characters because you just have to make moral choices they won't make to play their obligation and duty. Hence why you add Ob/Du in to help out.

Do you have any ideas of player careers?

Recently got interested in the RPG and have started collecting the books (got the Edge of the Empire rules book and the smugglers and bounty hunters rules books) and am on the look for more. Any in particular that are esp. valuable/useful? Also, are the pre-made adventures worth your while or only good if you don't want to write your own?

Premade adventures are great little toolkits for creating your own adventures.

As far as the most useful, I would say the 'comprehensive' books like Lords of Nal Hutta and Suns of Fortune that cover pretty much every aspect of the game (setting, new races, equipment, vehicles, spaceships, etc.).

And if you want a good adventure to start on, Jewel of Yavin is your friend. Play the beginner box for the introductory sessions, then reroll for the main game (intro chars. are too strong) and play JoY.

I just wanna say, these two MC80 builds are SOLID recommendations:

It's always a balancing act, as some players don't like to concentrate so many fleet points into one hull. On the flip side, many ships, especially Rebel ones, are inferior to Imperial models if you're just doing standard ship vs. standard ship.

It's been awhile since we got a multi-ship wave. The Raddus & Resurgent-class would be awesome, but from a game play perspective it would be challenging, as you need to invent a new larger base. It really depends on how well the line is selling and what sort of investment they want to make. They're nearly out of canon GCW ships, save a few smaller or obscure ones. Switching to the Sequel Trilogy opens a lot of possibilities (especially after TLJ), but time will tell! In the mean time, the more we play and the more we buy, the better odds we have. :D

With the amount of Legends stuff that's been included in X-wiing I'm hoping we get Dreadnaughts, Carracks, etc. but I would be stunned if we don't see more ST ships now that we've exhausted the primary OT ones.

I would be surprised if they could add much ST stuff. The Resistance ships are not a match for a First Order destroyer; the FO dreadnaughts are too large, and so is the Raddus. You're really probably looking at more EU ships first. Or, Clone Wars (ewwwww) era capships, repurposed for both sides.

Yeah, the Raddus and Resurgent-class are each over 3km in length. Hard to incorporate into the game.

On a happier note, FFG updated their website, release date is 2/1 for Wave VII! :D I'll have the Profundity and Chimaera in just a few weeks!

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but it's a big thread:

I just ran The Force Awakens Beginner Game with some friends, but I'm not really sure where to go from here? All the other stuff seems to be unrelated to that era/storyline, and I guess I don't really understand why there are three different core rulebooks?

There are three different games. Each game covers a thematic era, so as you don't get lost in a mismash of smugglers, Rebels, and Force Users.

The three games are compatible with each other, however, to the point where you could branch out of your starting career as a player and pick up a second specialisation in another career.

In terms of where you go - there's very little, if anything, that you can't do with those books because power level wise, any force user would be as powerful as they would be in Force and Destiny. And, you can either take the TFA stormtrooper stats and use those, or just reskin existing stormtroopers as FO ones, and you're there.

Do you want to play in the sequel trilogy era?

While obviously not canon (I'm looking at you, Wookieepedia) I watched an unboxing of the MC75 today and it has a second named ship, the Aspiration. A very good Rebel name, IMO.

Just to follow up on Ender's post, the three main rulebooks are set in the OT, but you can generate a NT era game out of them - easier with the similarities of the settings (Rebel Alliance to Resistance, Empire to the First Order). The Edge of the Empire and Age of Rebellion corebooks each include a "Force sensitive", so you can still have rules for Force users even if you don't pick up Force & Destiny. It'll require some work to make the setting, but I think the effort's worth it to develop a setting that you enjoy to play in.

Strange, I thought a mishmash of smugglers, Rebels, and Force Users was exactly what this franchise was.

I think the only sensible thing for me to do is to expand the X-Wing narrative campaign I want to run out into a full RPG experience. Now I just need the books, free time, and friends with free time....

I've only got one of the core books so far, but it was my understanding that some of them had tips for integrating the three lines into one campaign. I've also seen Edge of the Empire source books that have advice for using Edge of the Empire characters with characters from other lines.
