Lots of these are easy to pick out, but I can't say I'm well versed enough in Wagner or classic/romantic music in general to have noticed some of the references noted here. 4:42 and 6:30 for the historical stuff.

The more and more I see the movie the more I like the score.

Overall this is the most faceless SW score of all time
It is obvious by now that Williams cannot create instantly memorable new melodies and passages for the SW movies any more
this score is professional/competent/adequate, nothing more, relying on some carefully inserted moments of the OT soundtracks plus variations of the TFA soundtrack
Highlights: Ahch-To Island, A New Alliance, Battle of Crait-The Spark-The Last Jedi and yes, Canto Bight. The heavy percussion in Chrome Dome is also impressive.
    2,5/5

Your point is demonstrably wrong, even in how you engage with the assertion.
    “Were praised from the beginning”

    By whom? Everyone?

No. There were tons of people who didn’t get on board with the soundtrack until it was familiar

I had the same experience with TFA’s score. Thought it was a average to begin with, but grew to love it.

I haven’t clicked, but I’m assuming they’re contemporary good reviews, yes?

Once again. The existence of good reviews does not mean that there weren’t also lots of people who took objection to them initially. Surely you understand that, what with being in the TLJ forum?

I'd say they used ROTS soundtrack as temp music. Lots of ROTS in TLJ's soundtrack.

We'll all say what we will about ROTS but Battle of The Heroes is still pretty amazing (and sad). Still gives me chills. And yes when I was in the theater I noticed the similarity.

    Damn I love John Williams.

I always love it when Williams calls back to his older music.

A bit surprised it didn't go to The Post but a well-deserved nomination all the same.

Here's Rian Johnson's recording of Williams conducting the opening fanfare of TLJ at Sony Studios in LA.

After listening to the OST 5 times now, it's definitely the best Disney era SW OST. The only track I don't like is Canto Bight, I feel it's out of place. My favourite track though is Battle of Crait. This OST also has so many PT and OT references which is nice to hear.
