I was so tempted to watch the new trailer because of Kendrick Lemar, but I didn't watch to see any new footage for the film with it being just around the corner.

I think it's pretty amazing that the Marvel franchise is still holding strong at the box office considering Black Panther is the 18th film in the franchise, which might the time where the audience experience franchise fatigue (as MCU films have been described as "cookie cutter") or even super hero fatigue. In fact, Black Panther may be the opposite of franchise fatigue but rather be a breath of freshness to the franchise as it's the first MCU film (Luke Cage is not a film) to star a Black character and nearly an all Black cast. Moreover, Black Panther will feature tracks from well known hip hop artists like Kendrick Lemar. It is certainly amazing that Black Panther first 24 hour ticket presales have out paced Captain America: Civil War.

Many congratulations to the cast and crew.

 

Online Pre-sales are still fairly new and presumably still growing rather a stable benchmark at this time. So I would t read that much into them. Not to say this won’t do great business.

 

Star Wars is the top U.S. franchise in a lot of ways, but Marvel is the top global franchise. Only 10 years ago the first Iron Man made less than half its box office outside the U.S. At the anniversary mark the next Avengers sequel may make 70% of its box office outside the U.S.

I won't be surprised if Black Panther makes at least $100 million more than Doctor Strange worldwide.

Happy to see a recent interview where Marvel executives explained:

1. He’s “in charge of his own tribe” since apparently Afrikaans don’t have countries or even ethnic groups

2. That his being a superhero and punching idiots in the middle of the night was “much more important” than being a head of state and having millions of lives depend on his decision-making.

Yup. Real excited for this movie.
