Lit Upcoming canonization of Legends characters

According to this article which has a snapshot of a tweet, Leland Chee tweeted and then (I think) deleted, he says that a lot of Legends characters will be canonized this year. This is super exciting!!!!

What characters could be brought back?
Mara Jade
Kyle Katarn
Prince Xizor
Revan
Darth Nihilus
Booster Terrick
Talon Karrade
Lok
Darth Malak

Those are some of my speculations but he emphasized Anything, so who knows.

I just hope its not Vitiate or Abeloth

 

At most, maybe one of those will be recanonized. It doesn't make sense to go over that for a major character. I mean, look at Thrawn. He was recanonized with major fanfare, cross media promotion, etc. Putting out more than one would just take away from the impact.

I doubt Mara Jade will be recanonized, since as far as we know, Luke never married.

Recanonizing Mara without her relationship to Luke would make recanonization absolutely pointless.

Though I suspect one or two of the characters mentioned will be recanonized

There's more to Mara Jade than the "Skywalker" added to the end of her name.

 

Mara Jade coming back wouldn't mean she had a relationship with Luke of any sort. Just like Thrawn wasn't the same as EU Thrawn.

 

Yes but her relationship to Luke is an extremely important part of her character development.

It's also what she's most iconic for-being Luke's wife.

Without those elements recanonizing her doesn't seem as worthwhile.

 

I saw her as the Hand of the Emperor before "Luke's wife." But that's just me.

 

And everyone who started reading the EU before the NJO, lol.

I'm not really a fan of bringing legends characters into the NU -- I want entirely new characters, thanks -- but reducing Mara Jade to "Luke's wife", alone, is fairly insulting.

 

When you ask people with only the most mild familiarity with the EU-mention Mara Jade they'll say "oh isn't that Luke's wife he married in a novel?"

The detail of her being Emperor's hands isn't what first comes to mind for general audiences anyway.

And it's not about reducing her character-she is more than Luke's wife-she started the EU tradition of beautiful red heads, she has a keen wit great sense of humor, awesome ship, is a great fighter, and was willing to go all out cougar for her son-going off in the dead of night to confront her nephew.

But Luke's wife is what general audiences are most familiar with when they think of the character.

 

I thought she was iconic for being an interesting character created as part of a wildly successful and beloved book trilogy created during a pivotal time in the Star Wars EU.

But I could be wrong.

 

Thrawn is the one made iconic by the eponymous trilogy that started the old eu.

Mara was indeed introduced and made an impression on readers even then but her main claim to fame(among people whose knowledge of the EU is either limited, general, or non-existent) is being Luke's wife.

 

Sorry for may lack of Legends knowledge, all I knew about the character is that she was married to Luke and died by Jacen.

 

I disagree completely. Thrawn was the focal point, but characters like Mara Jade, Talon Karrde, and Pellaeon all became long standing and very well liked characters.

 

Sidestepping the whole "she was famous because she purdy" thing, I'll just say:

Xizor could fit in nicely. His plot of rivalry with Vader has kind of already been done with Cylo in the Vader comic though.

 

Well all my friends who don’t read the EU only know her for being Luke’s wife. I found out she was Luke’s wife long before anything else about her.

I think some version of Lumiya coming back as a dark side force user but not a Sith would be perfect. If they did it in the Marvel comics, all the better, we need some memorable antagonists for the heroes now that everything is a blank slate and Lumiya is one with lasting power.

How about Starkiller? (With reasonable force powers this time)

They could introduce him in the Darth Vader comics in a similar way to the game.

I think they missed a trick not putting kyle katarn into rogue one not being a main player just mentioned or seen would have done. Xizor would be great tho
