Yeah sure, I made that word up.

Sorry, I think you misunderstood me. I know that phoropter is a real word, it's just that I don't think that kind of eyewear are called phoropter even if they look a bit like them.

If you read what the device does, with different intensity lenses, and a girl with a red-and-white X on her belt, which I assume means she's one of the X-Men, is wearing one, then it seems perfect to contain whatever is going on with her eyes.

While normally I would agree with your assumption; because you chose a super-heroine with apparent eye-related issues, as your example, I think that she is wearing a form of phoropter, and I was not trolling you.

I think it is an odd enough word that you could use it, whether in a SW or NSW context.

Edit: If you are using them for a race with that amount of eyes, you could go with Species-Specific Goggles (SSGs) that the wearer picked out of a catalogue that asked them to state how many eyes.

Maybe @Findswoman has a many-more-lensed version for her Gand.

Who is that girl? If you know her name, is there a wiki that you could look her up, and see what she is wearing?

From Black Widow (Natasha Romanova) - IPFS

While in disguise as Yelena Belova, when infiltrating the then Osborn-sanctioned Thunderbolts during "Dark Reign", she used a specialised multi-lens goggle/head carapace that demonstrated various abilities enhancing vision and communication.

The symbol on her belt is not an X, it's an read hourglass symbol, like the one found on the back of black widows. She has no powers beside the extreme physical abilities normal people can have in comics thanks to training

She's Yelena Belova, the second character to take on the Black Widow codename in the modern mainstream comics. What she is wearing is some kind of high-tech spy/agent goggles that I have seen appear here and there in fiction, here we see the DC character Soldier with another version

I'm certain that I have seen others with those multi lensed goggles but they only other I can find right now is the Splinter Cell agent who only have three lenses
    [IMG]

Since I have seen those multi lensed goggles I was thinking they had to be known as something

    EDIT: missed this
That's new information for me, I had not seen it wen lookin up Yelena Belova. Thanks. Have now to look up what 'carapace' means.

These goggles are most likely some kind of night vision goggles, given that it's the Splintercell universe.

All right... you're an Imperial officer, on your way back from leave to the secret base you're assigned to. What kind of a ship are you in? (You're not a pilot, someone else is flying you and it's a longish trip...)

Hmmm...well, my first question would be what era are we talking about?

Oh, fair question. Between ANH & ESB.

Question: why are the pilots able to communicate in hyperspace before they get out of it to attack the Starkiller Base?

I-5 response: Because TFA's grasp of SW physics is utter [warning, TOS violation].

I-5 speculation: I expect they'll explain it away as an upgrade or re-use of the hyperspace-planted s-thread devices used in the West End Games' sourcebooks to enable a fleet wide holonet.

Aren't the s-thread devices used only on specific routes, such as the Sanctuary Pipeline and the Byss Run? It would make sense, given that this place is, as we say, "where the God said goodnight".

I think the s-threads are seeded throughout all the known hyperspace lanes.

Imperial Intelligence use them to form their Sector Plexus network, to pass encrypted messages about.

They probably couldn't do that if they were only in that isolated quarter of the galaxy.

I basically ignore that TFA and Rogue One could chat between Real Space and Hyperspace.

    So...good luck.

Ah, just saw that it was the BOOSTERS I had in mind, not threads themselves. Mea culpa. :)

Another thing I need: a nice planet that was deffo liberated by 5 ABY, reasonably close to Naboo, Bespin and Roon - as in, getting from Naboo to Bespin to THIS PLANET to Roon does not take a long time and it's on galactic South.

The planets from all eight films are a nope. I know that Takodana is pleasant and close, but I have different plans with that one.

I wanted Dubrillion and then I realised it's on the other side of the GFFA.

    Fanon planets are okay, too.

My default option is the Lambda-class shuttle, but that may be because I never bothered to look up anything else.

Hmm...I was going to say maybe the same ship that the Rebels stole in ROTJ in order to sneak onto Endor (I forget what it's called) but you asked for something between ANH and ESB. Ah well, I still like that ship, whatever it's called. It looks cool with the 3 wings. :)

EDIT: Looks like @Chyntuck beat me to it [face_laugh]

Have we gotten anything definitive on Hyperspace travel time in the new canon yet or is it still "speed of plot"?

As has already been suggested I would have said the Lambda class shuttle but I guess if it's a secret base they might want to be a bit less conspicuous. If you want an imperial ship I would have said the sentinel class transport or if it's supposed to be undercover then perhaps a personal luxury yacht 3000 similar to the Lady Luck? They are more comfortable for an imperial officer but they are pretty common and thus don't invite much attention.

Good suggestions, both! Thanks, I'll ponder this. Struggling with the timeline on this story.
Ha, that would be my guess! Although I vaguely remember JJ or Rian saying that the main places (D'Qarr, Takodana, Jakku) were all in the same general area of space, rather than being far apart. I have found an interesting fan site, Star Wars Combine, an online RPG of sorts, very elaborate... but they've got a map of the galaxy where you can calculate the distance between planets, although they're going by old canon. I had a bit of fun with that. From Corellia to Endor is 4 days, 17 hours, etc. Made quite a bit more sense than some stuff.

Any good name suggestions for a Jedi splinter group (that has been around for some centuries or more) that focus on personal enlightenment instead of being out in the galaxy helping people as wuxia-lawmen-diplomats for the Republic?

@Flyboy240 Check out this post in the Tools and Resources thread; there are several links to sites about hyperspace travel times. They're not new canon and most of them are fan-made, but they're useful if you want to maintain a semblance of consistency within your fic :p (and yes, speed of plot seems about right!)

It'll be some snooty Light-based name, to make the schism seem worth it.

Praxeum of Light, something like that.
