Obviously Han is deeply misogynistic in ANH, "If we can just avoid anymore female advice we oughta be able to get outta here!" To which Luke replies, "Then let's get moving!" Followed by two dirty looks at Leia when she asserts herself. He also expects her to be afraid and helpless and grateful for her rescue hence his "huh?!" When instead she acts witty and snide.

Is Luke who grew up under Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, a very traditional gender role enforced family unit sexist and if so does he develop enough by ROTJ not to be?

Does it take Rey kicking his ass in the Last Jedi to hammer home women are equal to men?

Oh I read this as "Is Luke sexiest in ANH"......that probably would have been more fun thread.

No. I think Luke was basically just saying "Let's stop bickering, and get out of here." I think he saw Leia and Han as both weighing down the mission because they were bickering.
It's safe to say there is a lot Luke doesn't understand about women, though. I mean he lived a pretty isolated life on the Lars moisture farm. He really only left to go explore the Dune Sea or go to Anchorhead.

    It's called banter.

No. She's seeing her for the first time, the "huh?!" is merely him snapping out of it when she talks to him. And she was in need of help. She called for help, remember? It's the premise of the whole adventure. As for expectations, there's nothing indicating him expecting her to be "afraid and helpless and grateful".

    What the...?!

    What?!

Good lord... Luke, Han and Leia all "whack" each other equally through the OT with witty/snarky comments! They work better as a group for it I think.

SW didn't have an agenda back then!

Absolutely not and neither is Han. Bickering was a huge part of the three character's dynamic.

Maybe I'll start the thread "Was Jabba an equal opportunity employer or a misogynistic slug?"

Also, where's the thread outing Leia as a raging racist & bigot? She vilifies Chewie with her "walking carpet" slur (a hate crime), then deliberately refuses to give him a medal after his heroics!! No wonder he didn't hug her in TFA.

Let's not conflate uttering slurs with actual hate crimes.

I hear that using certain racial slurs can be classified as such, but I'm no expert.

One thing that I always find interesting about cinema from other generations is the inability of fans or casual observers to de-conflict what was a "product of the times" VS an actual character trait.

I agree that those verbal exchanges are nothing more than snarky, but if there were an actual undertone it can be attributed to a character trait of the 70s, not Luke. Juxtaposed with Leia NOT being a damsel in distress is a deft social commentary.

Well, I don't think he's to blame for not reacting to Han's sexist comment, considering that thus far he apparently only had negative experience with the other sex, i.e. Camie from Toschi Station at Anchorhead. I think the deleted scenes reveal that she doesn't like Luke at all, almost smashes his macrobinoculars and is probably the one there who came up with the nickname "Wormie" for Luke.

You've heard wrong. We can indeed confirm that you are not an expert. A hate crime is the act of harassing someone, destroying property or worse.

Leia was being very discriminatory against the SSC (The Short Stormtrooper Union).
