The impression I got was that the movie makers actually had to go to some effort to make the Tector - take the regular 8 ft ISD model, remove its dome, and add a bit of armor - just for that one shot.

    Effort should be recognized.

Do we have much of a description of the Victory in the new canon? I mean it would be a bit strange, but they could always tweak it to be more visually distinct. Though I certainly agree that the Venator is far better in that role. There's a reason it's my favorite SW ship

There isn't any description - just the namedrop.

Fractalsponge did a heavy tweaking of the VicStar - changing the hull from "kite-shaped when seen from above" to "triangular" and removing the asymmetry in the command tower:

That looks better. Maybe a bit more tweaking with the bridge and then I think it would be distinct enough to warrant more common usage.

For me, the bridge is already pretty distinct on the Legends Vicstar - just in a different way:

I like the Vicstar bridge as well, but since it's supposed to be from the late clone wars; it might be cool if it had something more akin to the venator's bridge configuration. Like keep the ISD shield globes, but have them atop the dual bridge towers.

Or make the globes smaller or a different type (Fractal always uses ISD-II globes - even on really old ships).

This is my favorite Victory depiction. I think it looks distinct enough from the ISD.

Seeing as the Imperator debuted at the end of the Clone Wars I like to see the Victory as a middle zone between the new style (Imperator) and the old style (Venator, Acclamator). I think Fractal's design does a good job at conveying it.

I put the Victor and Gladiator more as contemporaries of the Venator....which is part of why I am disappointed they did not show up in TCW. The Venator being the carrier, the Victor being the destroyer and the Gladiator being a heavy escort. The Acclamator is just a troop ship to get the GAR to the field and provide orbital support...but not really able to go full ship to ship as it does not have the heavy weapons.

The first link requires a google account but the second one works. It seems the Y-8 mining vessel is back then

On another note, regarding my question on the Supremacy, it turns out Wookiepeida editors judgement call to list it as destroyed at the moment until proven otherwise. So nothing official yet, just a confusing article.

Thanks for your work! I also suggest using imgur, it's an easier and also free way to post images. :)

On a side note, I really dig seeing the ships popping up in The Rebel Files. Props go out for whoever made the Torpedo Sphere image and the dreadnought Siege Breaker type. :D
The latter looks like an Old Republic-style capital ship but with a Start Destroyer rear.

The Siege Breaker really is a lovely design. I totally agree on the OR-style vibes going on. I wonder if it was ever built, or if it was just a hypothetical design.

Unfortunately they seem to always take the OT approach, where a few designs were introduced and then in the next movie extended upon. Instead of for example show a diverse universe from the very beginning. Too bad that even RotS suffered from this, where the Republic used only Venators anymore.

But yeah, real diversity design-wise as it is described in some books and rpg material seems to only exist in the X-Wing simulators.

It did appear on the cover of one issue of Darth Vader. It looks more or less like FFGs model. So no split wings.

While I do enjoy looking at Fractal's interpretaions of Dark Empire blobs, I can't stand his Victory. And honestly I've rarely seen good Victory models out there. They usually look totally off.

The VSDs bridge is part of the reason why it's so attractive.

The Imperator-class is supposed the be from the late clone wars as well. And it's basically just an up-scaled Victory.

    FFG sort of did that.

Lovely, even though I like the depiction in the X-Wing games even more, but of course having their wings open in space doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

The legends backstory is pretty much Lira Wessex taking the Victory and up-scaling it, so it looking distinct from the Venator and somewhat similar to the Imperator does make some sense.

Too bad that's just an Empire at War model. If you search for images of the Torpedo Sphere you'll even find one with the same skin as the Rebel Files one.

I think it was an actual design, there are some that are rumored, but not the Torpedo Sphere or the Siege Breaker. The FO is rumored to have taken design elements from the SBs into their own capital ships, per the Wookieepedia.

Just for fun, I'll share the artist's blog on ArtStation.

Oh wow, taking a fan-design, adding some red lights and change some of the texture. Couldn't they just make a separate image wholesale and not just take the exact frame?

That's just cover art, however. Such art never has anything to do with continuity. Also, I suspect the artist didn't intend to draw VicStar, and these are just misshapen ImpStar I.

I am certain the intent was to drawn a Vicstar. The bridge is correct as are the engines. That's to specific to be an accident. However I do agree that cover art is not really canon
