Favorite Star Wars theme

Same as the last thread. Duel of the Fates. The choir that is in this peace really makes it something special. It is also used so well throughout the trilogy. I hope it pops up again in episode 9.

 

I actually think DOTF was squandered. When George told John "you've scored the final duel in Ep 3" with DOTF, I thought he meant the theme was perfect and he would have John weave it into a new composition. Instead we got a copy/paste of the TPM recording into the middle of the Obi-Wan vs. Anakin sequence. I was very disappointed, especially after how well the new use of DOTF worked in AOTC.

Also, in my opinion, DOTF only fits the prequel trilogy. I don't think it has any place in Ep 9.

 

As I understand, while the orchestra itself was copy-pasted, the choir was rerecorded for ROTS

 

Why rerecord it?

 

Main Title. Every time I think of Star Wars, that is what comes to mind musically.

 

Yeah! I heard that too. So weird.

 

Leia's theme hits me right in the gut whenever it starts now - especially now that our beloved Princess, Carrie Fisher, is no longer with us.

 

The piano rendition in the TLJ credits is a gut punch every time I see the film.

 

Rey's Theme: I love the melody and supporting motifs, the multiple 'endings', and the way it meshes with the Force theme.

 

The Force theme closely followed by Leia's and then Duel of the Fates.

Across The Stars for me. Just something so grand yet melancholy at the same time. Perfectly represents the tragic love of the PT.

Battle of the Heroes also holds a special place too. I remember watching the "A Hero Falls" Music Video on the ROTS DVD all the time growing up.

 

You said it. If I had to pick only one single piece of music from SW as my favorite it would have to be "Across the Stars" as well. What I also find brilliant is how it's used in AOTC, blending in perfectly from the "Imperial March". I would say this is my absolute favorite musical transition from any of the SW movies.

 

I recently saw the Oregon Symphony perform Music of John Williams and they played Across the Stars. It's such a great piece.

 

Serious question: why do people like the Force theme so much?

 

Because it's mysterious. Because it's moving. Because french horn is my favorite orchestral instrument. Because it's so versatile. Because the Force is the mystic core of the entire Saga.

I voted for Rey's Theme. Regardless of cultural impact or whatever, it elicits the greatest emotional response for me.

Very difficult to narrow it down to just one, but I chose the Main Title, since that's what started it all.

It's difficult to say. It is true that a recording of the choir for that cue was slated, but there was no recording date specified in the leaked cue list. And the recording sounds identical to the TPM version(s). It seems VERY strange that they wanted to re-record the choir in any case...

 

I can't pretend it's not influenced by recent developments. But Leia's theme is proving pretty hard to get out of my head these days. Particularly the way it was used in the her spaceflight scene in TLJ.

The return of "Luke and Leia" from ROTJ's score is most welcome too.

 

Ahsoka's Theme - due obviously in large part to the character it's attached to but that theme gets me every time and Kevin Kiner has managed to wring an incredible variety of emotions out of it over the last ten years.

I just recently discovered Sabine's Theme on Rebels - hands down the best theme on that show even though Sabine isn't my favorite character on the show. I've had that rendering over the epilogue scene with the wolves running across a liberated Lothal on repeat for weeks.

And I have to admit that on a strictly musical level, Rey's Theme is one of the best things to come out of Disney Star Wars even though I don't like the associated character one little bit.

And a honorable mention to Battle of Heroes from ROTS. I'm really glad that LFL has shown a lot of restraint in reusing it in other material because it really symbolizes the twilight of the Republic and it's much more powerful for keeping that association and not getting diluted through overuse.
