Yes that's what I meant....I would never disrespect her death....just meant her dying from the effects of her being in space was a reasonable way of her being written out.....

I think it matters a great deal how Leia is written out. She's one of films' most iconic characters.

I hate the idea of her dying from her space moment. It was Leia's big Force moment, nearly 35 years in the making. To have her eventually die after the big moment that saved her? How pathetic. Every other powerful Skywalker got to do all kinds of great Force feats, but the one time Leia does it's associated with her demise?

    Horrible.

The fact that Leia is killed by one of the most poorly conceived scenes in the trilogy is both sad and amusing to me. Really, with Carrie's unfortunate passing, making a half-assed explanation for Leia's absence in the films was an inevitability.

Plenty of people like that scene. So no, I don't find it "amusing".

I don't see what the big deal is.

See survived that moment using the force but not without consequences.

It took years out of her lifespan.

She'll probably live 3 more years after TLJ.

Enough time to rebuild the resistance and be a mentor to the remaining good guys before Episode IX.

The good news is you can still have novels cover between TLJ and Episode IX to tell more of Leia's story.

I think the audience is use to Force sensitive individuals using their abilities with little consequence. Luke was exhausted after his Force projection and slipped away, now his twin uses the Force to save herself and it ultimately leads to her end? I am not keen on the idea either.

The scale of using the force the way they both did, is unprecedented in the current film canon.

And Leia's not even a Jedi.

I thought it was a good showing of both of them in their last film.

(Not counting force ghost Luke in IX)

I'm posting this vid in Leia's thread because Fisher is so charming and funny in it. Like always. [face_love]

@Lost_Hope My bad. I hadn't seen this video in the official releases, and there was a lot of pirated material floating around this weekend, including a lot from twitter. I thought this was from that. I apologize.

I’m still not convinced that Leia didn’t have any training or teaching with Luke at least once when it came to the Force or jedi teachings. But yeah, feel like both of their force powers they presented were unprecedented.

I really think this was just a preview of what was to come for 9. I could see the big reveal having Leia come with these awesome force powers at the end to save the galaxy or even using a lightsaber against Kylo. Man what could have been...

The behind the scenes documentary is pretty Carrie fantastic - there is a whole uninterrupted shot of Leia and Luke's meeting where you can see how consummate an actress Fisher really was. It's amazing.

I loved the director and the Jedi footage of Carrie.

Hearing Rian Johnson say how much he loves her even when she was a pain in the ass was heartwarming.

And I loved seeing her rehearsing "Finn!?!" And Oscar Isaac chides her by telling her to say it with two commas after Finn.

She had a blast doing this film. And I love how RJ "got" Leia. And I loved the inside joke -- "faster more intense" for his direction

There is a small snippet in the Aftermath book series where Leia is trying to center herself in the force "the way Luke taught her" (not exact wording- my best recollection of the book). Before that I had figured they'd bring it up somehow, that he did try to pass on what he knew, but ultimately Leia felt her place was with the Senate.
