If I were you I would start with Episode 4 and continue on from there.

How do we know he didn't? That line about facing down the entire FO with a laser sword could have been a reference to a failed attempt...

With all due respect, I heard this years ago regarding 7 and was told Luke really had a plan, writers know what they are doing etc. I was let down once I saw 8.

Leia confronted Snoke? Or Leia mentioned that Luke did?

 

Leia, Han and luke speak of snoke with ease. They all had a history. Of which we know little.

For that matter why didn't Obi-Wan and Yoda go to take down Sidious after ROTS?

 

Their opportunity had passed.

 

Only because the plot demanded it.

 

Because Obi-Wan would die as quickly as Agen, Kit and Saesee did, and Yoda had learned that he lacked the power to destroy Darth Sidious.

As much as I may dislike the character of Ezra, I have to say he displayed a great deal of restraint in resisting Palpatine's offer. If I were faced with a way to go back in time and change the past to undo all past hurts and save loved ones, I would take it. I wonder if the pathway was real though. If Ezra had opened the gateway, could he really have saved his parents?

 

I think Palpatine's plan was for Ezra to go back and live happily and never join the Rebellion or become a Jedi. That said, I think Palpatine is wrong about how all this works.

 

I'm not saying I don't like it, just that there isn't a good logical reason why Yoda and Obi-wan didn't team up to try and take Sidious down again (or Vader after realizing he's alive) or training new Jedi. It leads to a good story so it's forgiven... but it's still there. I do wish ROTS showed Sidious really beating Yoda.
