Solo [Official Info] Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca) in Solo

It's not just his bandolier that is different, anyone noticed his weapon in the poster? It's like a earlier version of his bowcaster:

 

It looks pretty cool. Not surprised they tweaked that stuff. Equipment gets improved and becomes outdated even in the GFFA.

 

What is he filming? I'm pretty sure Episode IX hasn't started production....

 

There was an article a little bit ago that said they would be doing three weeks worth of re-shoots starting at the end of January. Nothing radical, just pickups.

 

The only thing that irks me is that in ROTS he's wearing his normal bandoleer. I understand folks change equipment and clothes, but it just irks me for some reason. A minor irk to be sure though.

 

I hadn't noticed before. Hope there will be some hints how Chewie will get his original bandoleer back.

 

Maybe we’ll get to see Chewie ripping arms out of sockets?

 

I don't think many people realise Peter is pigeon toed, it gives him such a distinctive gait and it's something that gives it away for me that Joonas is playing Chewie.

 

It's probably in a box in Maz's basement. How does the bandolier get there? A good question for another time.

 

There's an interview with Joonas Suotamo in this week's Star Wars Show. He talks a little bit about Solo, nothing new, but there's fun info in how he prepares to be Chewie

 

From what I've seen so far I really like Joonas - he seems to enjoy playing the role, puts care into it and is doing a good job.

I really like his excitement.

 

Taking over from Peter Mayhew is nearly as unenviable a position as taking over from Harrison Ford, but Joonas Suotamo has done so quite admirably.

 

I don't know what they will do with Chewie after Episode 9, but I am really happy that he's getting a great shot in this movie.
I'm not fussed about More Han Backstory, but More Chewbacca makes me very happy.

 

I think his action sequences are going to be great!

 

joonas was trained in the ways of the wookiee by the master himself.

 

Could be his best movie yet. In fact Chewie’s treatment by Disney has been great all around.

 

Not in TLJ it wasn't.

 

Yeah. Was great in TFA and had some funny, memorable moments in TLJ. Joonas is doing outstanding with him. And Solo looks to be very Han and Chewie centered, so I'm looking forward to seeing lots of him!

Looks like this movie will give Chewie more character development than the whole OT! Can’t wait!

 

The Han/ Chewie relationship looks absolutely spot on so far. Can't wait to see more.

 

Glad to see a thread about the mighty Chewbacca! He is, in my opinion the most over looked character in Star Wars. While, of course I would always want Peter as chewie, we all knew the day would come where someone would have to fill in the size 25 wide. Janos, from all ive seen has done an admirable job filling in for Peter and if im not mistaken has Peter's seal of approval. As someone mentioned before, I would love to see peter next to chewie in a cameo in "solo" and say something snarky like "aren't you a lil short for a Wookie"....anyway, for me..."Solo" is all about Chewbacca.

 

LOVE the scene in the new TV commercial at the end, where Han is playing, I guess Sabac(?), and he leans over and shows Chewie his cards. The mannerism and "Oh crap" growl are just priceless!
