Here's Palpatine's explanation: "Shah-tezh, in this iteration, though over the eons I have seen it spawn many variants. Dejarik. Moebius. Chess. In most of the iterations the core mechanism remains."

    That dialogue is so cringey.

Sounds a lot like stuff we've been getting since '77. Star Wars may have proven to stand the test of time, but it's still keeps a foot in the old Flash Gordon serials genre.

So I am sure that it was discussed earlier in the thread - but I just finished - so I will ask now:

What was the reason the three timelines were all jumbled up? Nothing in each of the time jumps “aligned” so that the events in one section mattered to the section directly preceding or following. The Fyzen Gor chapters could have been an extended prologue, the Lando/El-3 section could have been Part 1 (and was the most superfluous),
    the Han/Sana
section could have been Part 2, and the now timeline of Han/Lando/Taka could have been Part 3. The drama all would have played out the same, and I didn’t see a reason for the jumping around at all. I think the next time I read it, it will probably just be chronological - and I will probably enjoy it more.

    Questions:
    1)
When Han threw the Phylanx out of the Falcon, did that just end up becoming the transmitter than Gor embedded in his arm? With the end reveal of the Phylanx being “Number 1” it certainly wasn’t the same thing Han spaced during the standoff

    2)
El-3 antiviral Squad - seemed a little deus ex machina to me - especially since she wouldn’t reveal ANY Info to Lando during their sections. For it to be revealed that she had been working on a counter program and sent it out into the galaxy just didn’t feel like an earned ending.

    3) I need an adventure or short story featuring: Kaasha, Peekpa, and Aro. Like Today.

    4) I hope that Taka will be in more stories between Last Shot and Blodline. Hopefully they are even involved in the Resistance and we just haven’t seen them featured yet. I really enjoyed Taka’s characterization and can see why Han took to them as he did.

    5) In the young Han’s first chapter, are we to assume he is
    grieving over Qi’ra
    ?

I overall really enjoyed the book.
I didn’t care for the resolution, because it just didn’t serve the journey in my opinion. Not much character growth occurred over the course of the book, and the main players are left “roughly” where they began. Han learned how to express himself a little better and Lando is going to attempt a serious relationship. Other than that - pretty much no other growth occurred.

The use of the word iteration not once but twice isn't clunky to you?

Hm, no. Difference between cliched and clunky.

Why is this a conversation even being had? It's two sentences from a book that was released several years ago which was only brought up in the first place due to its content, not its execution.

And I made an offhand comment about how it is a terrible piece of dialogue. I agree, dunno why it's become a conversation.

Do I really need to explain why bringing the quote up to explain something related to the book is perfectly acceptable, and how saying that the quote from a different book is cringy and then coming back several times to defend that point will get you some odd looks?

I definitely agree that it came off as rather half-baked, but I gave it a pass, solely on the grounds that the
L3s really put the machina in deus ex machina.

What do y'all think – was DJO intentionally engaging in wordplay?

I hadn’t really thought of that. It would be interesting to hear someone ask him that in an interview or at a con and see what his reaction to the question is.

I assumed that it was out of artistic design and to preserve some element of surprise and mystery. Whether that worked or not will vary from person to person.

    I totally missed that.

Never thought about it like that.

I wondered about that, too. That would depend on the timespan between those scenes and Solo, I think. Also, it's unclear if Qi'ra is going to be Han's first love or not. One thing I will say is that, in context, the girl that Han is drowning his sorrows over in Last Shot seems to be one who dumped him, so if Qi'ra's story ends with her being killed instead of her and Han just going their separate ways, this might be a different person.

I think it was supposed to be pretty obvious that he was
"grieving" over Q'ira. Whether she's dead or just betrayed/lost to him I don't know.

How does Han owning the Falcon 10 years before Last Shot work out in regards to him getting the Falcon in Rebel Dawn? He recently got the Falcon in LS IIRC but not really sure on the timeline for the the Han Solo stuff. Right there at the edge that Lando could still have it, I think.
