Discussions EU works you like but everyone else hates

I've always been a fan of the Medstar Duology. I don't know that it was 'hated' per se, but it has been largely ignored.

 

Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void.

The novel was generally good for making a first attempt to tell a story in the DOTJ timeline period. I have only encountered maybe one other person who read it and enjoyed it. Most of the fans I encountered maligned the comics series because they could not identify with the characters. They did not bother to read the novel. This was back in the period from 2012-2013 when the Disney purchase was still new and there were only rumors that Marvel might get the comics license.

 

Another fan here.

 

Death Star was my first EU read, and I really liked it.
I also liked the Bane trilogy, Darth Plagueis and Scoundrels
Mara Jade: By the Emperor's Hand has to be one of my favourite comics

 

Jedi Academy Trilogy. I see people trash it quite a bit.
I love Exar Kun's seduction of Kyp Duron. I love the entire story.

 

I think the problem some people have is with Daala. While written by the same author, I think Daala was much better in Darksaber, but a lot of that has to do with her learning from her mistakes in the Jedi Academy Trilogy.

 

I like The Clone Wars comics (2003)

 

I think I'm one of six people in the fandom who actually liked the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy by Michael Kube-McDowell.

 

I think I'm one of the three people who liked the Fate of the Jedi series.

 

Similarly I'm one of very few people who enjoyed both the hugely maligned Dark Nest trilogy and Legacy of the Force series.

 

I like most of the novels/series in any era, but it seems like the ones I don't like, are the ones everyone else does, like:
Darth Plagueis
Tarkin
Bane Trilogy
-These were okay, but I found them tedious

The jedi academy's series.......though the Sun crusher was a bit much.

 

Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void was good. It didn't have the same sort of Star Wars vibe that other stories had, but that made sense considering how remote the Dawn of the Jedi series was from everything else on the timeline. I enjoyed the novel and the comics. Only complaint I had was the last series, Force War, felt really rushed.
Knights of the Old Republic II gets crapped on a lot and I enjoyed the game and its story a lot.
The old classic Marvel comics get made fun of a lot and I think people are getting too hanged up over the first few issues that Roy Thomas did. I agree that the green rabbit was dumb, but people act like the entire run of those comics was like that and they weren't. Many of them were actually pretty good and the series did give us Lumiya.
And I didn't hate The Crystal Star as much as some people did.

 

Certainly helps that Waru was changed into a Dark God from before the Old Republic itself.

 

I love KOTOR II, even prefer it over the original which I also love. Honestly, with the Restored Content Mod, I don't think there is any excuse for the criticism the game receives. Kreia is still the most complex antagonist in a Star Wars story.

 

I've played the RCM and it is really good. I remember the Droid factory in particular being a lot of fun and it makes me wish they had completed the game more properly prior to its release.

 

I was fine with Jacen going to the dark side and i enjoyed Dark Empire.

 

-Republic Commando books (minus Imperial Commando, which was only necessary if there was a sequel, and that got cancelled).
-The Darth Vader and the... comics. I didn't realize those were hated! They were fun!
-Attack of the Clones is my favourite prequel.

 

I like the jedi academy series and the bane series

 

I enjoy reading the Legacy comics.

 

I actually like the concept of Waru and the whole anti force thing.

 

I think I even made a thread about this once. I really, really liked Karpyshyn’s Revan novel. I had no knowledge of Revan or anything Old Republic going in, so maybe if I had I would’ve disliked it like other people.

Annihilation by Karpyshyn is also really good, but that one is less hated and more barely talked about.

 

In spite of how Empire's End is normally seen, I love the scene where Sheev goes to Korriban.

 

I'm reading the Jedi Academy series right now. I hope I can stay with it. The fan backlash against Kevin J. Anderson alludes me.
