The newspaper thing is confirmed by Coppola in the commentary on the film, as for reading the book George submits a mandatory reading list to all staff members of books that he considers essential to understanding his mindset. The Godfather, Hero with a Thousand Faces, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, y'know, the classics.

 

Extremely disagree. It's just a mean thing to have flash up on you and is likely to make the person behind the computer even more angry. A lot of times bans aren't the fault of the user, and even if they are two wrongs don't make a right.

 

This thread is why people make fun of SW fans.

 

They do that anyway. And I relish every moment of it.

 

It’s too ridiculous to be considered mean. It’s a silly joke. If they can’t see that then getting banned from an internet forum is the least of their problems.

Also this thread is a perfect justification for why George Lucas hates banned users.

a) yes they are the fault of the user
b) I just got off the phone to George Lucas, he said he hates you the most and hopes you go for a walk with a shoe that's not tied up properly and have some discomfort later from rolling your ankle. I don't know what you did but he seems quite cross at you. ​

Indeed. It doesn't occur very often, but bans can be issued in error. Who knows, maybe I'm the only one to have ever done such a thing (and no, I'm not referring to when I banned myself), but hey, it's happened. It can happen

That said - I have no opinion one way or another on the "George Lucas hates you" thing, so I guess I'm just breathing out empty air

 

An unfair ban and a mistaken ban are two different things.

For unfair bans, @Darkslayer is going to have to provide examples, otherwise it’s just whining and hyperbolic nonsense.

 

I'll one-up that and provide an example myself. Very first ban I ever issued. With that user's privacy in mind, I won't go into detail, but suffice to say that in retrospect, I concede that I vastly overreacted to something that I should really have just left a warning on

To make it a bit clearer, when I said a ban made in error, I didn't mean that the ban was not intentional. It was intentional, and it was one I shouldn't have handed out

But anyways, I digress. It isn't my place to discuss how I perceive the fairness of bans issued by other mods, but even if I'm the only one who's ever done it, point is that unjustified bans are possible to give, so Darkslayer's point is relevant, even if I wouldn't say it happens all that often

 

But I have no idea who you are, and you voluntarily oversee a board about a particularly terrible trilogy of “films”. Possibly the worst ever made.

When I was banned, that message just cemented to me the fact that I had been wrongly and unfairly banned. I know that I am not a terrible person and I know George Lucas doesn't know I exist. I thought it was all very childish, including how the mod said "enjoy your break" or something along that line.

I think it should be changed to Kathleen Kennedy, for the reason given above.

No, I already knew I did nothing wrong. The message didn't feel like a joke. I certainly didn't laugh. Finding out that you have been banned, even from something as trivial as a star wars forum isn't a time you are in the mood to laugh at a joke or think "Oh that's clever". It felt like a childish insult, not a joke. It didn't make me angry, more like an eyeroll and head shake.
