Getting this going here since sportsanchor wants to get a list going and will be meeting with the Whitecaps before the end of the month.
WHAT: West Michigan Whitecaps Baseball
WHEN: Saturday, June 28th 2008
WHERE: 5/3RD BALLPARK NEAR GRAND RAPIDS
ATTENDING: SELLOUT CROWD OF 11,000!!
CHARITY: Make-A-Wish
http://www.wish.org/
Link to Whitecaps Site
http://www.whitecaps-baseball.com
Directions to Ballpark
http://www.whitecaps-baseball.com/BALLPARK/directions.html
The West Michigan Whitecaps are welcoming back the 501st Legion for the third consecutive summer. Last year this event raised over $3,000 for the "Make-A-Wish" charity!! This year we're hoping to top that figure. Troopers from all Midwest Legions (Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin & Michigan) are welcome to come in for this event. Hotel accomodations can be arranged for those making a long drive from out of state. The Whitecaps can hopefully get a reduced rate at a hotel close to the ballpark. Hotel info will be posted once it's confirmed. Once again, West Michigan Whitecaps players (Class A Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers) will each wear a Star Wars baseball jersey, during the game, designed by 501st member, Scott Withers and approved by LucasFilm!
Whitecaps 2008 Jersey
Several of these game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off and raffled, with a portion of the proceeds going to "Make-A-Wish". Lucas has requested 3 of the jerseys for his archives and several of the extra jerseys have been made available for purchase by 501st members. Just like the last two years, this event has the potential of bringing in a lot of money for the charity. Troopers will be involved once again in on-field games/antics in between innings and the plan is to show one of the Star Wars movies on the big video board in left field again. More information will be posted here as updates come available. In the meantime, please consider taking part in what will no doubt be another very memorable evening.
UPDATE
Hey everybody,
I had a brief meeting with the Whitecaps folks on Tuesday this week. We're looking into a new location for the photo booth. The location we decided upon was up the third base line, near left field. It's ideal because people can stand in line and watch the game - something they can't do in our previous location by the entrance. Obviously, we'll be back in the same location if there's a weather issue.
We have a good chunk of costumers already committed for this event, but it can't hurt to add more. If you haven't already, please come out on June 28th and be a part of a great night for the 501st and our selected charity.
We'll need about 20 NCS for this event. Right now we have 11. Still plenty of time between now and the end of June but if you know of some NCS volunteers, please post their real names within this thread. I will add them to the list.
Brien Skinner may be able to play the Nat'l Anthem on his guitar again. Right now he's a "Strong Maybe" so cross your fingers that he can clear his schedule and do it again.
The event will follow the same template as in past years, with the exception of having clusters of costumers doing more concourse walking and having clusters spend time out in the party deck in right field and roaming the suite level. Clusters of costumers will also be in both dugouts like last year for the between-inning stuff. I may decide to rotate those groups this year so everybody who wants a chance to be on the field for the games can be.
I'll probably put everybody into planet groups, just like the Griffins event, and those groups will be dispatched accordingly.
More meetings will unfold after MCCC so stay tuned for updates. Meantime, please circle the date on your calendar and set it aside.
UPDATE
Hey all,
With MCCC drawing to a conclusion, it's time to focus the Death Star's destructive power on the home planet of Whitecaps '08. Lots to do over the course of the next six weeks. Some meetings will unfold and the original post will be updated with event details.
As of this writing we have 41 costumers committed for the 6/28 event! That's 7 more than last year and we still have plenty of time to add more.
What I need from everybody right now is to check the "YES" list and make sure I have your first and last names as well as your costume of choice. There are a few names that are incomplete. If you're one of those names, please post your real name and your costume. That will help me as I begin placing people into groups.
The T-shirts for the event have arrived at the Whitecaps souvenir shop, but they can't be sold until 6/28. My wife brought one of them home and I will post a picture of it sometime soon.
These T-shirts will sell for $18.00 apiece at the souvenir shop the night of the game.
You'll know more when I know more... meantime, please check the list and make sure I have your correct names and costumes.

JUNE 22ND UPDATE
STAR WARS NIGHT WITH THE WHITECAPS 2008
Below is the most recent information you'll need to know for the upcoming Whitecaps event. Obviously, things can change between now and June 28th so, if there are changes, those will be detailed on this thread. For the most part, what's written here will be how the event will flow.
Much like the Griffins, everybody has been broken down into groups again. Once you find your name, that's the group you're in for the entire night. The groups will be for the "In-Game Entertainment", Walking the concourse and suite levels. Once again, Tracy Amid will be the "In-Game Entertainment" Captain for this event. Her job should be much easier for the Whitecaps than it was for the Griffins. Tracy will make sure the two clusters of costumers are positioned in both the first and third base dugouts around 6:20pm on game day. These clusters of costumers will remain in the dugouts for the entire game, unless of course you need a break or need to eat. Tracy will be stationed around the Display Table/Photo Booth and reachable by radio for the duration of the night.
Because we have more costumers than last year, there will be several clusters of costumers walking the concourse, going up and hanging out in the suite level, traveling out to the left and right field decks to shmooze with the patrons. Each group will have a designated NCS going with it. The NCS will have a jug to collect a suggested donation for Make-A-Wish, should patrons want to take photos.
Also, just like the Griffins, there will be certain costumers who will be 'tethered' to the photo area for most of the night.
Each Planet group as been assigned one NCS staff member. All other NCS Staffers have been assigned rolls. The roles will be your "primary" jobs for the evening, however expect to wear many hats if needed. These type of events can take on a life of their own sometimes so all NCS need to be ready to do what ever's asked of them. Expect to be with your group for the night.
The Captains for this event are as follows:
Brent Ashcroft - Event Coordinator
John Blizzard - NCS Captain
Tracey Amid/Imperial Officer - In-Game Entertainment Captain
Donavon Larabel/Imperial Officer - Photo Area Captain
Karen Larabel/Jocasta Nu - Costumers Captain
- NCS staffers, direct all questions to John Blizzard. John will delegate
to Tracy when 'planet' groups can walk the concourse and travel to the far reaches of the stadium.
- Costumers, direct all questions to Karen Larabel. Karen needs to know
when you plan to go on break. She'll make sure you get paired with NCS
to take you to and from the break area. She will also be holding onto the Concession vouchers. If you would like, she can assign a NCS to retrieve your food for you .
- Costumers, listen for Tracy Amid to call your group names at random
points. When she does, that means you'll be requested to walk the concourse and visit with the fans.
- Photo area NCS, direct all questions to Donavon Larabel. Whatever he
needs to keep that photo area running smoothly, please be willing to do
without hesitation.
- If the captains can't answer a question, they can pull me aside or
2-way me on the walkie-talkies and I will do what can to assist. More than likely I will be the official videographer for this event so I may be floating around all night.
Timing of game day:
12:30pm - Set-up crew arrives and will begin constructing the photo area. If you want to assist with the set-up, please post within this thread so Donavon can assemble a crew. There is no doubt help will be needed for this so please volunteer if you can.
2:00pm - Costumers who want to be in the Whitecaps team photo and/or an event group photo should arrive and begin getting into costume at this time.
3:00pm - Star Wars costumers and Whitecaps team will gather in center field for a photo. Those of you who attended the '07 Star Wars night remember how awesome this photo was. In fact, it was sent to LFL. It also popped up on Starwars.com and has really made the rounds. This photo is not mandatory by any means but it would be nice if we can get a decent contingent of costumers to arrive and be ready for it. The Whitecaps folks are still in the process of solidifying the details with the team about this photo. If the team can't do it this year, we can take the opportunity at 3pm to have our event group picture taken.
3:30-4:00pm - Everybody who bought the authentic Star Wars Whitecaps jerseys can go to the souvenir shop and pick them up. Also, if you want one or several of the commemorative 2008 Whitecaps Star Wars Night T-Shirts, those will be sold to you at this time. They are $18 apiece. This way you can get all your purchasing and pickup done BEFORE the gates open at 5pm and the lines start to form.
4:00-4:30pm - Brien Skinner will be able to do his sound test for the National Anthem. Brien may need help lugging his equipment to the field. Brien and Blizz can assemble some NCS staffers for this. The individuals involved in helping Brien may want to delegate somebody else to pick up their jerseys and t-shirts, unless you want to battle the crowds for them later. If you aren’t a part of this crew, and aren't in costume yet, please start suiting up during this time.
5:00pm - Pre-game meeting out on the left field deck area. Mickey Graham, the Whitecaps promotions guy, will address all of us. The meeting is MANDATORY!! If you can't get to the ballpark for the earlier stuff, that's fine but you'll want to be there for this. If there's anybody who knows they can't be there for this 5pm meeting, please PM me. Basically, Mickey will go over all the protocols for the event. I will probably make a few comments and then we will break into "captain's groups". Each captain will address his or her group about responsibilities and answer any remaining questions you may have. This will also allow each captain to formally meet their NCS reps, as some of the people helping may not know each other. Each captain needs to know who's under him/her for this event. It's a chance for everybody to put names with faces. 5pm-6pm is the eye of the hurricane, folks. This will be the last time to make sure you know what's expected of you, so no question is a stupid question. Once things get underway, there won't much chance for people to explain, so please make sure you are completely aware of what your captain wants you to do for the event.
6:00pm - Photo area will open for pictures and will probably stay open until the last person is in line. The Whitecaps said there will be no cut-off time, so the photo area could be open for five hours depending on how long the game lasts. All the costumers designated to the photo area need to be in place no later than 5:45pm.
6:20pm - Darth Vader (Mike Arnold), the ROYAL GUARD GROUP, the two dugout clusters of costumers, and the crew helping with Brien Skinners Nat'l Anthem will all be ushered to the field. You will probably be taken to the third base dugout like last year. Four dugout NCS will accompany the group at this time.
6:40pm - Darth Vader (Mike Arnold) and the ROYAL GUARD GROUP will go out to the pitchers mound. On On side of Vader will be a royal guard and the Emperor. On the other side of Vader will be a royal guard and the Imperial Officer. The dugout groups will stand at attention out by the first and third base lines, while Vader throws out the ceremonial first pitch, just like he's done for the past two years. After the first pitch is thrown out, Vader, flanked by the ROYAL GUARD GROUP, will slowly walk up to the home plate area and gather around Brien Skinner as he prepares to play the Nat'l Anthem. At this time the clonetroopers (Ripcode & Anton) will leave their dugout posts and head over to where Brien is playing the Nat'l Anthem. Ripcode & Anton, just position yourselves on either side of Brien. All troopers, please salute during the Anthem. Once the Anthem is complete, Vader, with help from his personal NCS assistant, will head back up to the photo area and remain there for photos until he is relieved by Keven Lewis. The ROYAL GUARD GROUP will head back for assignment from Tracy, and the First base dugout group will go to the first base dugout, while the other group will head to the third base dugout. Ripcode & Anton, head back to your respective dugouts and be ready for the on-field fun! Both dugout groups should be accompanied by their assigned NCS reps.
Since Mike Arnold is acting Vader for the first half of the game, he can choose to be relieved by Keven Lewis between 8pm-8:30pm. If Mike feels okay to go longer, please go no longer than 8:45pm. But please give enough notice so that Keven can be in his Vader suit by the time you reach the break area. Mike and Keven need to communicate between each other as to how the Vader change will occur. My hope is that you guys can hammer these details out thru PMs this week, or make sure you have a hearty confab about it on gameday. Only you guys know how long it takes you to get in and out of that Vader costume. We have to make sure there's a smooth transition between Vaders, so however you guys want to go about making that happen will be fine with me.
7:05pm - Game starts.

This is how I envision the day progressing. The planet groups will be the groups doing the concourse walking, visiting the suites above the concourse and traveling to the outfield suites and patio party decks. There will not be any time limits on how long you are gone. Basically, your jobs will be to have fun with the patrons and bring the joy of Star Wars to them. NCS will ask for suggested donations if people want pictures taken. The planet groups will report directly to Tracy Amid. You can come back, take a break, eat, then head back out for more concourse walking. Remember to give any money raised to the Make-A-Wish reps at the photo area. Just make sure Tracy knows when you go back out again.
The four NCS in the first and third base dugouts will be there to help the "In Game Entertainment" costumers with whatever they need. I would suggest bringing several bottled waters/Gatorades down to the dugouts with you so the costumers can just replenish down there. If the costumers need to use the bathroom or eat, then help lead them back up to the concourse level to wherever they need to go. Dugout costumers will be assigned there for the ENTIRE GAME, so please prepare for that accordingly.
"Captains assistant" is a new title for this event. Basically, these NCS staffers will hang out near the photo area and be asked to do random tasks. Captains Assistants can plan on doing many roles and helping in all areas where needed.
The Whitecaps will provide us with food coupons once again. Each coupon will be good for one item at the concession stand. Karen Larabel, the Costume Captain, will have all the food coupons. Whenever you want something to eat, just see her at the photo booth and she will distribute the coupons. Since standing in line at concessions stands, while wearing armor, isn't too fun, she can have a NCS Captains Assistant go grab the grub for you.
Comped Waters, Gatorade, etc.. will once again be available in our changing areas.
Whitecaps officials have decided NOT to show one of the movies on the big screen after the game. The decision stems from very few people sticking around until the end, each of the past two years. They may re-visit the idea next year but we need to come up with some way to entice a large amount of people to stick around to the conclusion of the movie.
After-party:
Will be at Vitale's Pizza & Sports Lounge in Comstock Park about a mile from the ballpark.
The address is:
3868 West River Dr.
Comstock Park, Mi. 49321
Just Mapquest this address from the Fifth Third Ballpark address and you will have your directions. I called Vitale's and told them we might have as many as 50 people coming and they said it will be no problem so that's where we're going.
The PDF will be finalized this weekend and available to download at the beginning of the week.

sportsanchor is looking for more non-costume support for the Whitecaps game. So if anyone would like to NCS, let me know.

yikes - Darth Real Life strikes again...
I will have to make my time shorter there - my mom is not in great shape today.
I'll plan to come early and help set up but can't stay as long as I had originally planned. Sounds like sportsanchor has put the word out and you'll have lots of costumers. Thanks very much to Shannon for keeping us informed and reminding us why we need to be there.
Hope we raise a ton of $$$$ for Make A Wish!!
