Can't wait for this? Not much local trooping going on in December, so I should get a little reading done.

well, I'm revisiting some old books, starting with that Timothy Zahn trilogy: Heir to Empire, Dark Forces Rising, and Last Command. Bought them used in hardback at RavenCon earlier in the year for like $2 each.
Haven't read "Heir" in many years, so it's nice.

First question, any Star Wars era that you like in particular? Think of SW in terms of a timeline. You got Sith Wars, Pre-Republic, Old Republic, Clone Wars, Empire vs. Rebellion, New Republic, ...I don't know the exact names for these eras at the top of my head, but there's many to choose from.
SW books have era symbols on the front-cover as well as "Timeline" info near the table-of contents, which puts the story in context. So look for that.

Zerbs the first trilogy of books that inspired and started the whole EU (other than comics and Alan Dean Foster's Splinter of the Mind's Eye) was Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy of books. In my humble opinion a great place to start.
This trilogy consists of Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command. Most of the books have some sort of "serial" story meaning that there are NOT that many stand alone books. Most are duologies or trilogies.
Another great read is the New Jedi Order books that take the reader throught the Yuuzhann Vong Crisis.
This link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Star_Wars_books will give you a list of all the books and story lines. Hope this helps, let me know if you want to discuss books as this is my speciality (in Obi-Wan's accent).

Aw, c'mon... Shadows of the Empire had the most delicious Gary Stu of any fanfic I've read!!
I haven't read many of the EU books, but Shatterpoint was excellent. I'm going to start the Bane book shortly - Ruan doesn't read much fiction, so when it's a book even HE can't put down, then I know it's got to be good.

thanks guys! Hey do you think I could borrow some of those books? I want to read a few and see how I like 'em, and if I dig it I'll keep going with it. I love to read so I've been aching for some new material outside my usual tastes of fantasy or murder mysteries. Star Wars sounds peachy to me.
Tony, let me know if you've got those books you reccomended, I'm down for that.

I like reading James Luceno's novels like Shatterpoint. Local libraries can offer much in Star wars novels.
