Hey, I liked these books. "Prophets Of The Dark Side" was my first ever SW book.

I like the books, don't think they are the best written star wars books, but enjoyable in a goofy saturday morning cartoon sort of way. They read more like Marvel comics than anything else.

I beg to difer on them reading like the Marvel comics, but hey, to each their own. They're not the worst thing I've ever read, though...

I like the marvel comics as well. I just feel there is a different feel to the old marvel comics compared to modern comics. They don't take themselves nearly as seriously. In many ways I actually prefer that, when I describe something like that I'm giving a compliment, which is my opinion.

They are alike in that respect, but I really think that comparing them to the Marvel comics is misleading.
Shadows of Obi-Wan, eh? Any more info on that?

RE: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Glove of Darth Vader, But Were Afraid to Ask...
Emperor Trioculous is an interesting character because he's a hell of a lot more menacing in EU expanded information than he ever was in the Glove of Darth Vader books.
He had the support of
four Grand Moffs
and
three Grand Admirals
. One of the Moffs that served his cause was the infamous
Moff Disra
.
His Empire executed two of the Grand Admirals under his command oddly as well.
He managed to force Bespin into becoming an Imperial aligned world or at least neutral in the Galactic Civil War since he had massive tibana gas mines building there for the war effort even under Lando Calrissian.
By marrying Princess Leia, Trioculous wasn't only going to satisfy his disgusting lusts but also guarantee his illegitimate claim to the throne by presumably siring ACTUALLY force sensetive offspring by the daughter of Darth Vader.
The fact he insisted it be done according to Sate Pestage's false Dark Side worshipping religion also cements that Trioculous was a sincere believer in the Sith religion even if he was a Muggle himself.
Hissa as a cyborg or not was also an individual who has, if you read between the lines, a very interesting personality. Like Ambassador Furghan, Hissa is a near-human, who rose past Imperial Prejudice and unlike Thrawn had to battle poverty. He maintained connections on the Underworld and actually was SO self confident that he actually took drinks in cantinas like Mos Eisely without bodyguards.
He went on his own to lead stormtrooper patrols and continued leading the Empire even when he was half a cyborg. He also was the only Grand Moff not to actually lie die and beg for mercy but show some kahones to the False Prophets of the Dark Side.

"near-human"
Actually he's not a specific "near-human" he's what they call "part alien". He's a hybrid.
"a human with a bit of alien blood".-paraphrased from the Guide to star wars 3rd edition.
So essentially where as a "near-human" is its own evolved species. He was split between two seperate species both human and alien.
But ya beyond that slight destinction, yes, he had to work hard to get his position in an empire that is against alien heritage.
Ironic thing is that one of the Grand Admirals was in a similer position, with alien blood in his past(which he was able to hide), and yet he was also one of the strongest supporters of the anti-alien doctrine.

Such self-loathing views have many real world equivalents.
We can also by reading inbetween the lines also get a good idea about how the Civil War beteween Grand Moff Hissa (who is the real danger rather than Trioculous I think) went.
During the "start" of the series. Grand Moff Hissa is looking for a hidden base for the Empire. He's looking at isolated worlds for the capital because obviously they fear assassination.
However....not that long after....
Grand Moff Hissa is in control of
Duros
, which we know from the Clone Wars and The NJO is the gateway to Coruscant.
This is during the "middle" of the Book series.
At the end of the series though we find Grand Moff Hissa betrayed by Isard's false prophet and captured on Scardia.
This is the result of a brilliant propaganda coup that actually might be the cause of Isard's dramatically poor position at the start of "Brentaal"
It's only the death of Hissa's figurehead ruler combined with the sudden annihilation of the four major Moffs (two Grand Admirals were already executed by this point) that results in the Empire of Hissa being destroyed and presumably pulling Isard's bacon out of the frier
It's possible Isard intended to use the False Kadann as a Emperor figure as well (or the False Kadann was replaced by the REAL Kadann-a third person source says Kadann was killed soon after but it clearly refers to the false one imprisoned by the Jedi-sigh) but that fell through with his imprisonment in the Lost City of the Jedi
The Republic lying low, except for Intelligence Gathering, the entire series and establishing secret bases all across the galaxy will pounce on this weakness and make an assault on a weakened Isard's vulnerable territories. With Hissa dead it may explain the sudden victory of the Republic, all of the world's under him suddenly threw their support behind the Republic when their Imperial forces were annihilatd by Isard at presumably incredible loss to her.
I also commend
Hissa
for along with Kueller and Furghan, nearly decapitating the rebellion with the use of a thermal detanator bomb. Only Trioculous' grand standing kept it from being perfect.

This thread is hilarious! I was afraid I was the only one to like these books when I was ittle bitty.
I still like them sort of, if only for the fact of remembering what a nice normal little kid I was.

RE: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Glove of Darth Vader, But Were Afraid to Ask...
Musings on the nature of the Central Committee and the "false" Kadann led me to dream up the following fan fiction fixes (try saying that five times fast):
Shortly before the Battle of Yavin, a number of Moffs and Grand Moffs, led by Grand Moff Trachta, decided to overthrow Emperor Palpatine and rule the Empire on their own. This bold plan was naturally foiled by Palpatine and Lord Vader, who also targeted by the traitors. This was no isolated incident. Grand Moff Tarkin perished in the Battle of Yavin due to his arrogance, and Grand Moff Vellam, a man sympathetic to Trachta, was convicted of high treason when he attempted to kill a comatose Darth Vader after the Battle of Yavin.
As a result, a large number of new Grand Moffs were appointed. Palpatine was careful to choose those who were either too loyal or too smart to betray him. The new Grand Moffs would recognize the importance of the Emperor, and keep their own petty ambitions in check. And so they did—until the death of Palpatine.
Following the Battle of Endor, the Imperials on Coruscant struggled amongst themselves to find a new leader to replace the Emperor. Advisor Ars Dangor called for a convocation of the Imperial Advisors in the old Senate building. There a new leader would be selected and crowned, with the Advisors acting as an overseeing legislative body—the Ruling Circle. The Moffs and Grand Moffs also saw the wisdom in providing the masses with an emperor to lead them, however, at the advice of Grand Moff Hissa, they made two prerequisite demands: one, that they be allowed to participate in the election of a new ruler, and two, that members of the proposed Ruling Circle be granted a number of votes equal to the number of worlds they controlled. In order to rally support for these demands, Hissa organized the Moffs in a coalition, ruled by a Central Committee of Grand Moffs. The advisors realized this would stack the odds in favor of the Moffs, and politely demurred to the now-powerful Central Committee for the time being, concentrating instead on using the Ruling Circle to bring down Sate Pestage.
Hissa was determined to crush the upstart New Republic, and convinced the Committee to fund advanced weapons development programs. Although the program has suffered some setbacks, including the destruction of both Seoul Five, a source of energy boosting crystals, and another Death Star, the mind of Triclops has produced some promising designs.
Even after Ysanne Isard destroyed the Ruling Circle, the Committee was determined to find a suitable candidate to assume the Imperial throne. The Committee was unimpressed with Isard’s attempts to unify the Imperial factions and warlord—Isard was a ruthless leader, to be sure, but she was no Empress. More importantly, she was out of control of the Central Committee. Any new Imperial ruler would have to be firmly under control of the Moffs.
AND
Prophets of the Dark Side
Before the Old Republic fell, a Jedi Knightr named Mirius Kadann turned away from the Order. He meditated on the Force’s Dark Side, encountering grim visions of the future. Eventually, the fallen Knight came to the attention of Darth Sidious, who visited Mirius at his hideaway on Null. Sidious established a lasting relationship between the Prophets and the Sith. When Palpatine declared his Empire, he made the gesture of asking for Kadann’s ‘Dark Blessing”, which Kadann had no choice but to give. Mirius gathered a small but loyal number of followers around him, recruiting undiscovered Force-sensitives and failed Jedi.
The Prophets of the Dark Side, also known as the Secret Order, had been a part of the Empire for decades, but it was only after the Battle of Endor that they appeared to the public eye. Imperial citizens had heard rumors of the secret order of prophets serving the Emperor, prophets who had predicted the destruction of both the first and the second Death Stars, and had aided in taking down the traitorous Grand Admiral Zaarin. The rumors were unsubstantiated until the Prophets made themselves known after the Imperial defeat at Endor.
Unbeknownst to all but the most high-ranking Imperials, the real prophets had disappeared after the Battle of Endor to parts unknown, along with most of the Emperor’s other darksiders. Facing a growing loss of public faith in the Empire, Imperial Intelligence established a new group of prophet to serve as spiritual leaders in order to boost Imperial morale. Their “Church of the Dark Side” was officially sanctioned by Sate Pestage as the official religion of the Empire, and the Prophets set up headquarters in Space Station Scardia, once the haunt of the original prophets. The new Prophets preached ultimate Imperial victory and the resurrection of Emperor Palpatine, and gained a huge following.
The Intelligence project backfired—the Prophets were now too powerful. When they spoke, grand admirals, royal guardsmen, COMPNOR officials, and even the rogue warlords listened and acted accordingly. Instead of bolstering support for Pestage and later Isard as Imperial rulers, the Prophets began to shape Imperial policy on their own.
Supreme Prophet Makros Kadann
One of the original members of the Prophets of the Dark Side was Mirius’s half brother Makros. Makros Kadann was power hungry—he wished to usurp his brother’s position as Supreme Prophet. Kadann was unpopular among the other prophets, who were unquestionably loyal to Mirius. Though a Dark Side Mage, Kadann’s visions came less frequently and with less accuracy then the other Prophets. The dwarf compensated by taking control of a secret network of spies that had been established by the former Prophet Blackhole, who had been destroyed by Rebel agents. Using information from his spies, he was able to make highly accurate predictions, but this failed to impress the other Prophets. Kadann took his frustrations out on the Imperials under his command. When Kadann received word that the Rebel Alliance was preparing to evacuate a base they had established on Thila, he and the Order led Grand Admiral Afsheen Makati’s taskforce to the planet—but only in time to engage the last of the fleeing Rebels. Makati’s first officer, Captain Wermis, remarked “What do you expect from a lot of ninnies in sparkly dresses?” Unfortunately, he was overheard by Kadann, who proceeded to electrocute Makati with Force-lightening, suggesting that he learn to reign in his subordinates, thus humiliating him in front of his crew. The humiliation of Makati would ultimately be Kadann’s undoing.
Following the Battle of Endor, Mirius and his Prophets disappeared and did not invite Kadann to join them—they had blamed Palpatine’s increased lack of trust in their Prophecies on the Thila incident. Instead of being angry at this desertion, Kadann convinced Imperial Intelligence to allow him to establish a group of false Prophets in a bid to re-unite the Empire through faith.
