FTeik:
I theory, I agree with you.
But, look at how angry and heated these discussions have got as of late due to our Saxton debates.
I just don't want the disagreements about Saxton overshadowing the normally good discussions that we have all had over the last couple months.
jhc36:
This, one I worry about......
Seriously though, I was disappointed with how the authors of the FH trilogy dealt with the destruction of the Yevetha. They had good potential for future stories.

Not wanting to interrupt or anything... but since when were Yevethan fighters or AT-AT walkers classed as "New Republic capital ships"?
More generally, what basis are we building these edifices on - wet sand, or dry sand? And doesn't the likely air-speed of the relevant subspecies of swallow affect the dimensions of the nesting-niches?
That said, can I hold up
Brett
and myself as a model of agreement-to-disagree?
And can I say that the
Ex
is approximately 11.8 miles long
according to the relative scale of the bridge tower of the LFL model with that of the bridge-tower on the ImpStar models
, but only five miles long
according to the stats and plans which enjoy general 'in-universe' acceptance among the civilian population of the Alliance/NR
, and similarly, an "
Executor
-class Super Star Destroyer" according to normative naming conventions, but a
Super
-class Star Destroyer according to the same Rebel/NR material...

ThrawnMcEwok:
Well, the Yevethan fighter may not be a NR capital ship, but this thread did evolve more into a Star Wars capital ships/starfighters- sorting out the mess.
Anyway, its your call, but some of us have been trying to steer the conversation away from Saxton. I know that
Brett
has similar feelings as me. He and
FTeik
no better than most how these debates can turn into long, bloody conflicts.
So please, use your powers to put an end to this destructive conflict!!
If not, I suppose I will just have to live with it.

Yes let's end this bickering. Remember the old days in the precursor thread. We need an attitude like that as opposed to the recent Saxton Conflict. BTW, I assume the
Ex
to be 11.8 as well.

We now have, courtesy of

The Original Problem
Well, I still think they could be different vessels. I mean, I am sure we don't know even 50% of the capital ships used. Different Star Destroyers with different goals in mind is one solution to the NSD/DSD enigma. Perhaps they have the same hull but different capabilities.
This why we need a petition...I mean we had an idea for one awhile ago, maybe it is time to revive the idea.

ThrawnMcEwok:
You do bring up a good point. Perhaps it is time that we try to analzye the various roles of these newer starships.
Firstly, I don't think we all ever decided whether the
Nebula
and the
Defender
were the same vessel or different.
The obvious answer is that WEG, KMac and WotC are all in disagreement, but perhaps we can try to finally sort it out.
Hell, we have all been doing this for months now, we should try to reach soemthing concrete.
Personally, I am currently of the opinion that the Nebula is a seperate ship. My method of making snese of this is as follows.
The NR orders several
Nebula
SD's, but the design proves either too costly or not as effective as Ackbar and Fleet Command would of liked. Therefore, the design is dropped, leaving only a handful in NR fleets. But, instead of giving up, the designers of the
Nebula
go back to the drawing board and come up with a new, improved variant. The
Defender
SD! Why the name change, you ask? Because they knew that a brand new name would make it an easier sell to the officers that remembered the failed
Nebula
.
I know its just a thought, but what do you think.
EDIT:
Interesting.
Survivor's Quest
may turn out to be VERY interesting.

Yes I would agree with that Nic. But I also think they could differ in mission.
And to something concrete....definitely time to put something together!
And I drew this concept for the

yeah i agree with you on that one, the author of the FH trilogy poorly handled the situation. i was eager for more stories involving the yevetha....well, there's still hope in Nil Spaar.

Cool. Try to finish the
Mediator
soon. I look forward to seeing it.
jhc36:
Ya know, the BFC books were one of the best trilogies of the Bantam era. I always had a hope that we would see the Yevethan again. Sure enough we do, but only the last survivor of his species.
Hell, the least Dix and Williams could of done for us is show us the final battle of N'zoth. I bet the Yevethan put up a pretty good fight.

Well, a good enough fight to render their entire species extinct. Jaina didn't seem to comment about many YV derelicts amidst the battle, just thrustships.

Doesn't the Corporate Sector have these centuries-old 1200m

? Often called Invincible Dreadnoughts, or something to that regard.

Excellence: Funny you should mention those. I was just thumbing through my WEG
Han Solo and the Corporate Sector Sourcebook
....
Invincible-
class Heavy Cruiser (p. 92)
Length: 2,011 meters
Crew: 23,014
Passengers: 6000 (troops)
Cargo: 700 metric tons
Consumables: 1 yr.
Hyperdrive: x4 (b/u x25)
Space: 2
Hull: 3Dx2
Shields: 2D
Weapons:
6 Concussion Missle tubes (2l, 2r, 2f)
12 Turbolaser Cannons (4f, 3r, 3l, 2b)
30 Quad Laser Cannons (7f, 10l, 10r, 3b)
6 Tractor Beam Projectors (2f, 2l, 2r)
These mammoth ships were first designed over 3,000 years ago and drew their inspiration from the titanic battle cruisers from the eras of Xim the Despot & the Alsakan Conflicts. At the time, it was one of the largest battle cruisers in the Old Republic fleet. For the time, these ships were an amazing feat of engineering. They were equipped with weapons that could shred any ship of the day. These two-kilometer long vessels were feared throughout the civilized worlds.....
Now, these ancient ships find service with the Corporate Sector...
The Authority decided upon the Invincibles for a number of reasons. One was cost: ships that were three millenia behind the cutting edge of technology were not in high demand for any modern navy. Second was the mission of the Authority's Picket Fleet: since these ships would only be engaged in piracy prevention, smuggling interdiction, and system patrol, these ships were perfect. They couldn't stand up to Imperial battle cruisers, but they were more than sufficient to contain sorry smuggling vessels and tramp freighters.
The ancient ships maintain most of their original running gear, but often weapons, control, and shield systems have been substantially upgraded (again, not competitive with modern warship standards, but more than adequate for smugglers and pirates). The ships are still incredibly wasteful of energy and crew resources: the sublight drives of the Invincibles fill one-third of the ship's interior space.
