Not instrumental for what I'm doing, but helpful to know, nonetheless...

I know Han Solo spent 6 months in carbonite, do we know roughly how long it was from the Falcon's escape from Hoth to his freezing? Also, roughly how long in between his rescue on Tatooine until the briefing at Sullust, and then until the Tyderium left for Endor?

Good idea on adding dates, I'll toss in ABY dates, add in Demotion (say, after the Skyhook battle level from SOTE) and I'll use a 3.5 ABY marker for the start of the SOTE content, to help split up the XWA, TF and XWvTF work into more managable sizes.

EDIT- Well, ESB started at 3 years ABY, but it spanned sveeral months (trip to Bespin, etc), so roughly 6 months afterwards would still make ROTJ 1 year later than ESB's start.

I'd imagine that not much time passed between Han's rescue and the Sullust gathering ("the Alliance should be assembled by now"), but probably the best way to estimate it would be to calculate the time it'd take an X-Wing to go from Tatooine to Dagobah and then to Sullust.

So, it's likely that at least some of the fleet-gathering levels of XWA and perhaps even the Tyderium theft take place almost concurrently with the Jabba's Palace sequences of ROTJ.

I also don't think there'd be much time elapsed between the Sullust briefing and the Tyderium launch.

END EDIT

Again, I've estimated the placement of some things here, so inform me of any mistakes:

throwing out a few more of the game titles that might need levels dated and put into the list:

TPM-era
Obi-wan
Starfighter
Battle for Naboo
Episode I Racer
Pit Droids
The Phantom Menace
Jedi Power Battles

in between:
Racer Revenge

AOTC-era
Bounty Hunter
Jedi Starfighter

Clone Wars:
Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns
Clone Wars
New Droid Army

classic era:
Galactic Battlegrounds

Star Wars Galaxies... 1.5 yr ABY

Masters of Teras Kasi -- would this take place before TIE Fighter's last TODs, because Zaarin's traitorous plot involved Arden Lyn, who presumably in MoTK is still working for the emperor as a hand? possibly even before ESB, since Han is a playable character in the game.

We might not be able to place MOTK based on character selection- isn't Luke in his ROTJ outfit, with green saber?

Since Arden Lyn is the main story element to be referenced elsewhere, I'd suggest using her role as the basis for it's placement- but pre-ESB would probably cause the least problems, but it won't solve them all.

It's set pre-esb, according to the manual story, and the article in Gamer. However, as I recall there is nothing about a tournament within the game's story. So the tournament style of gameplay is probably only a gameplay mechanic.

actually there are two Luke's to choose from... Bespin Luke with blue saber, and Jedi Luke with green saber.. i think Jedi Luke is the main version, and you hit L1 or something when choosing him to switch to the alternate costume.

although if you want to go on costumes,
Leia is wearing her bounty hunter disguise (and the alternate version is just with the helmet on, and speaks Ubese) -- so this puts it after SOTE...

clearly in terms of storyline to the EU, the costumes and locations and characters available are all over the ESB-ROTJ timeframe.

i'd stick with Arden Lyn and fitting it into the time frame based on her story.

hmm.. are there any other EU references to the other characters they made up for the game? Thok (the gamorrean) and Hoar (the tusken raider). i know Thok resurfaced in the computer generated images of the Jedi Knights Trading Card Game..

hmm taking out the MoTK manual.. the entire story:
The Story of Teras Kasi

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
The Galactic Empire is sent reeling from the loss of the Death Star. The Emperor has ordered swift and severe retribution against the Rebel Alliance.
His subversive and covert method of hurting the Alliance: the feared and effective young assassin, Arden Lyn. A student of an ancient and almost forgotten fighting art known as teras kasi.
Arden is a clever threat. Under the watchful eye of Darth Vader, Arden Lyn must terminate key members of the Rebel Alliance and thus ease the pain of the Empire's loss. The Alliance learns of this plan and decides to meet the challenge head-on."

definitely post-ANH, and probably pre-ESB, by the story. I would guess that at this time, the Emperor and Vader know which key Rebels they want Arden to go after... Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewie... which puts this after Vader's Quest.

Since it mentions that teras kasi is almost forgotten, I would guess that it takes place before Star Wars galaxies, since at this time, it appears there's a trainer for teras kasi on every planet. Apparently, Arden's other plans were to open up a dojo franchise.
One of her students was the Tusken Raider named Hoar (as from the character summary in the manual for Hoar). None of the other character summaries really mention a timeframe...

However, if the locations are to be accepted, the final level when playing in tournament mode is in the Emperor's Throne Room, possibly on the second death star.

I seem to remember a date of 1 ABY for MOTK. Mind you, that may be my own conjecture--I can't remember, which is kind of sad. tongue If it's official, though, it'll be on the official MOTK website, which was still up as of last year.

Also, any video game levels covering the evacuation of Yavin occur at six months after the Battle of Yavin, which is when the event takes place. (See TEC and TNEGTC.)

Well I'd remind that things like cloning facilities in every town, and other things that relate to player characters like that are not canon, according to the VIPs at starwars.com.

Here's the first chunk of what I've been working on these past few days. It's more or less complete, but a basic summary of the events between Hoth and Endor as related through X-wing Alliance and TIE Fighter. Since the two games run parallel to each other showing both sides of the war, I've made a feeble attempt to order them chronologically. I hadn't intended to summerize each mission, but for completeness sake and my own notes, that's what it's turned into.

Battle of Hoth (ESB)

TIE Fighter Battle 1: Aftermath of Hoth
MIssion 1: Stele's first assignment as a TIE pilot is at Platform D-34, doing TIE flyby inspection of convoy ships suspected of transporting Rebels
Mission 2: Rebel and Mugaari forces attack D-34, Stele flies a TIE fighter in its defense.
Mission 3: Stele pilots a TIE bomber from the Nebulon-B frigate Fogger to make torpedo runs on Mugaari ships in retaliation for the attack on D-34
Mission 4: Platform D-34 has fallen, The Fogger's forces (including Stele) are sent to recapture it.
Mission 5: Stele flies an Assault Gunboat in an attack on the MC40 cruiser Lulsla, forcing her to withdraw
Mission 6: Imperials are sent to attack and destroy the Lulsla, and are successful.

X-wing Alliance Opening Cutscene:
The Azzameen family transport Otana narrowly escapes two ISDs after delivering bacta to Rebels.

X-Wing Alliance Prologue
Mission 1: The Azzameens do some shipping of cargo containers.
Mission 2: Ace Azzameen is given lessons in the gun turret of the YT-1300 Sabra
Mission 3: Azzameens inspect their own containers after a loss of records.
Mission 4: Azzammens plant spice at a Viraxo base and have to fight their way out.
Mission 5: Azzammens deliver bacta to smugglers.
Mission 6: Azzameens deliver bacta to Rebels
Mission 7: Azzameens gather their posessions to escape Imperial reprisals and rendezvous at the Rebel fleet.

X-Wing Alliance Prologue Cutscene:
The Azzameen family escapes the Empire at their home base.

TIE Fighter Battle 1 Cutscene:
Imperial Admiral Harkov negotiates his fleet's defection with Mon Mothma

X-wing Alliance Tour of Duty 1: Clearing the Way
Training 1: Ace is shown the basics of hit & fade missions in a Y-wing.
Training 2: Ace is shown the ropes of dogfighting TIEs in an X-wing
Mission 1: Ace is sent to attack an Imperial convoy meant to reinforce forces at Hoth.
Mission 2: Ace rescues his uncle from the Viraxo
Mission 3: Ace flies A-wing recon of Admiral Holtz's battlegroup and destroys his probe droids.
Mission 4: Ace participates in an attack on a poorly defended Dreadnaught to rescue Rebel prisoners from Echo Base, including Commander Kupalo.
Mission 5: Ace aids his sister in the capture of an Imperial probe droid
Mission 6: Rebels stop the re-supply of Holtz's ISD Corruptor
Mission 7: Rebels destroy Imperial sensor net.

X-wing Alliance Tour of Duty 1 Cutscene:
Admiral Holtz is called to Coruscant to explain his failure, and his hyperdrive malfunction (caused by the Rebels) sets him back an extra week.

TIE Fighter Battle 2: The Sepan Civil War
Mission 1: Stele is assigned to the Sepan system under Admiral Harkov, where two planets are at war with each other. The Dimok attack a Ripoblus convoy, and are driven off by Imperial forces.
Mission 2: The Ripoblus counterattack the Dimok, and are repulsed by the Empire.
Mission 3: Some Ripoblus hijack a system patrol craft, and request asylum from the Empire. Imperial forces repulse the pursuing forces.
Mission 4: The Dimok and Ripoblus are in talks to ally against the Empire, and their leaders are captured by Imperial forces.
Mission 5: New TIE Advanced fighters are being delivered to the VSD Protector, and the combined Dimok and Ripoblus forces make an attack during their ferrying from the transporting Escort Carrier Tropsobor to the Protector. All Dimok and Ripoblus forces are crushed, and both worlds fall under Imperial control.

TIE Fighter Battle 2 Cutscene:
Admiral Harkov addresses the leaders of the two warring planets, informing them that their civil war is over and rebuilding can begin.

TIE Fighter Battle 3: Battle on the Frontier
Mission 1: Stele is transferred to flying cover for a construction operation for a new Imperial platform. The local command ship is the VSD Stalwart, commanded by Vice-Admiral Thrawn. Building materials come under attack, and the pirate and Rebel forces are forced to withdraw.
Mission 2: The Nebulon B-2 Frigate Ludwick is sent to destroy a pirate outpost in the system.
Mission 3: Imperial forces repulse another Rebel attack on the Ludwick and the station materials.
Mission 4: The platform is mostly complete, but has no weapons or shields. Another Rebel attack is repulsed.
Mission 5: Thrawn personally inspects the platform, and Stele flies cover in a TIE bomber due to a lack of TIE fighters.
Mission 6: Rebels make one last-ditch attack on the platform before it's fully operational, and are destroyed.

TIE Fighter Battle 3 Cutscene:
Thrawn oversees repairs on a platform damaged by Rebel attack

X-wing Alliance Tour of Duty 2: Secret Weapons of the Empire
Mission 1: Ace is transferred from the Defiance to the Liberty, and answers a distress call, finding a convoy under attack by Imperial prototype fighters.
Mission 2: Ace's squadron captures one of each type of prototype using Z-95s.
Mission 3: Azzameen takes his family transport to settle the score with K'Armyn Viraxo, and is ambushed.
Mission 4: Alliance fighters raid a TIE plant.
Mission 5: The Liberty comes under wave assaults from prototype fighters, mobilizes her entire complement in defense.
Mission 6: Alliance fighters destroy prototype TIE production plant

X-wing Alliance Tour of Duty 2 Cutscene:
Admiral Zaarin muses on the events, and plans to continue his work on new TIEs.

Great work, J! The notes will help alot in future reference as we try to place things together. Do you think we should have descriptions for every level entry on the list? Or at least keep two lists- one with description and a second without?

And yes, Balance of Power is canon, but I'm unfamilar with the campaign's events so I can't comment further.

Isn't Thok mentioned in TFJP?

Jodo Kast is also in MOTK, so if we use him to also measure it's chronological setting, it has to be after he got his Mandalorian armor.

I'd say before SWG makes sense, since there are NPCs in the game who may not necessarily be TK trainers, but are TK combatants.

My thanks to you all, I'm glad this isn't going unappreciated.

A-wingsRule

"A quick question. ]Balance of Power is canon, right? But which side's campaign is canon?"

I'd hazard a guess that the missions in XvT proper aren't canon (because they're more designed for two-sided battles, call it in-universe combat sims), but at least the core story of Balance of Power is. Really, the BoP missions are virtually unrelated to anything in X-wing, TIE Fighter, or XWA, so their placement is rather haphazard. It's been a loooong time since I've played through BoP, but I'm in the middle of another run through XWA, so these updates should come pretty quick (as my work schedule allows, I was there from 8:30 this morning until 9:30 tonight). I still need to fill out the mid to late TIE fighter and XWA campaigns, but I'm not running into any major hangups. To answer your original question, I'm not adverse to doing it, but it'll be a while.

The2ndQuest

"Do you think we should have descriptions for every level entry on the list? Or at least keep two lists- one with description and a second without? "

I could modify this one down to a summary level without much difficulty, so that's not out of the question.

Well, what I mean is if we should expand all entries (such as the Rogue Squadron ones) to include descriptions like you did for TF and XWA, so that way everyone working on this will have a better understanding of the levels, since I doubt everyone here is familar with every game.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea- if only for the purposes of creating a final un-notated edition after using the notated one to build upon.

In other words- keep doing what you're doing, I'll work on expanding the entries I added to icnlude a level description and we'll continue from there. And since we may have to shuffle around some levels here and there, it'll be good for everyone to have a reference of some kind.
