These are looking fantastic, great covers, very different. Hopefully they will do well enough for Del Rey to start putting out this kind of book post RotJ era.

First Look: Street of Shadows
OS posted: With the Jedi all but wiped out in the grim aftermath of Order 66, the Empire's power seems unchecked. But one lone Knight continues to fight the good fight -- against all odds and when all else fails.
Deep in the bowels of Coruscant, Jedi Jax Pavan ekes out a living as a private investigator; a go-to, can-do guy for the downtrodden. Now a mysterious Zeltron knockout named Deejah approaches Jax with a case that needs to be cracked: to find out who killed her artist lover Volette, brutally murdered hours after his triumphant unveiling of a dazzling new light sculpture with obvious links to lightsaber pyrotechnics.
Finding Volette's killer won't be easy -- too many secrets, too many suspects, and all kinds of motives. But with the droid I-5YQ's help, and ex-reporter Den Dhur's excellent snooping skills, the investigation is soon operating like a well-oiled machine.
Unfortunately, there's a far more efficient machine hunting Jax. It's a deadly game of cat-and-mouse as the clock starts ticking toward the final explosive showdown . . . to see who strikes first and who will die first.
Don't miss these adventures in the Coruscant Nights series by Michael Reaves from Del Rey Books. Book two, Street of Shadows, is scheduled for release this September.
This is Star Wars noir. It is, by definition, the best thing ever.

I was just going to say that I really hope these are as hardboiled as they seem to be, and you know what...they're gonna be. I've been clambering for this for a few years now...if only he wasn't a Jedi, or had a non-Force sensitive partner...
Still, I'm very excited, and...small scale stories!

Oh, hell yes. Hell, hell, hell yes.

Well, the description of the hunter as a "machine" may be telling, but it could be entirely metaphorical.
And frankly, Havac, I'll take your wish and do you one better: I hope it's not a typical Imperial Jedi Hunter at all. How about a bounty hunter? Or someone with a personal vendetta? Or an officer? Or...we've heard Nick Rostu's going to make an appearance, so where've Depa and Kar been?

Sweet cover, here the coloring isn't disturbing, imho. Pavan looks a bit like Mark Wahlberg there, whereas on the CNI cover, he looked more like Nathan Fillion.
Here's the cover in hi-res, btw. The art looks really cool, if you ask me.
In terms of story, I'm really thrilled. It'll be great to see a seedier side of SW, from the eyes of a low-profile PI. If you'd just leave out the Jedi part, it'd be a real nice change.
I haven't read any of Reeves's SW works, yet, unfortunately, but I think I can expect quality, yes?

The covers of this series are a nice change of pace, but I still would've preferred the design to be a little more retro and a little less CSI.
As for Reaves: the consensus seems to be that he's quality, although I've found his collaborative work with Perry to range from dull-and-silly (Medstar) to sweet-baby-Jesus-why (Death Star)...
However, since I've never read any of his solo stuff, and these look really interesting, I think I'll give them a chance.

I liked Reaves's solo work on Shadow Hunter better than I liked his collaborative work. And it too dealt with the Coruscant underlevels, and did so well. I think we're in for a treat.

The description confirms ties to his other works, specifically DM:SH and MedStar. Hoping for some ties to DS as well.

Kar would give me the same reaction too.
These may be the first Star Wars books that I go out of my way to buy in their first week, just to show my undying support for what they're doing here.

I actually read the "machine" bit as referring to the "Imperial machine" grinding after him. I do like the idea of someone non-FS going after Jax, but . . . the Inquisitors are just so underused. I'm desperate to see an Inquisitor in some serious post-ROTS action outside of Evasive Action.
Though . . . if it were Armand . . .

As incredibly awesome as Jerec or Tremayne would be, I'm sure it'll be dumb old boring Vader after him throughout all three books.

This is the second book, so I don't think it will be Vader. Vader could appear in the third one and kill Jax, but in this second book the opponent will probably be someone or something that dies or is destroyed in the end of the book. So it couldn't be Jerec or Tremayne either. What if it is really a machine, an assassin droid?
