I imagine he might say something in the language of his opponent, but then he might not know it.

Thank you all so much! I'll have to mull it over for a while, since they're all great, and then pick what fits best. I like your suggestion, Quiet_Mandalorian, but it's going to be practically impossible for me to dig up something in Zabrak. Thanks again for your help!

Ah, I see. wink

As well, so far as further suggestion goes, if the incident in question's going to be set in the early part of the Mandalorian wars, it's not inconceivable that the Mando in question might say something in recognition of his opponent's skill before finishing her off, maybe along the lines of "good, but not good enough" or something to that effect.

Perfect - that's exactly the sentiment I'm looking for! It has to be something that will stand out in the mind of the incident's witnesses. Great idea!

EDIT - Is it correct to phrase "Good, but not good enough." as "Jate, a na jate luubid."??

I'd say "Jate, a'nu jatne." (Good, but not "best".) It flows better, imho.

Hey Guys,
Just a quick question, i'm trying to grab the mandalorian translation of the phrase; "It's one thing to see us coming. It is another to do something about it." i can't seem to find it anywhere. Any help would be muchly appreciated. I'm putting it on the suit of mandalorian Armour i'm making as part of the "cuy'val dur" character i will be costuming as.

Regards
Matt

"Ordo ."
"Yes?"
"Ordo, you just flattened an ARC trooper."
"He was delaying us."
"But you hit him. Twice." "No permanent harm done,"

This ought not to be a spoiler. It doesn't tell ya about the plot of LotF:Inferno. Mandalorians are mentioned exactly once in this book. That minute passage paraphrased is:

Jacen very much doubts that if told Ben that Boba Fett killed Mara that Boba would come out any worse for wear.

Not much, but it's a Mando reference. It pretty much says that the most dispassionate individual, who's ready to cannon fodder anyone for his dream of a united galaxy, figure that Boba Fett could take Ben Skywalker without scratch. The kid is fourteen against a battlehardened Mandalorian grandpa, but Ben's done some work on loads of other combatants.

Yep, that was a great line there. I mean, Fett does have a lightsaber collection, after all, and not from fighting Padawans. Fett would probably never even touch a 14-year-old, unless provoked, I think.

"Among his earliest collections, not long after leaving the stormtroopers, had been a boy of barely fourteen Standard years." dancing

Does sleeping with some governor's daughter count as provoking Boba Fett? wink

Where does it say that? And in any regard, I wasn't talking about business, since that has probably been a contract.

"The Last One Standing: The Tale of Boba Fett" by Daniel Keys Moran. The best EU story ever written. Give it a read if you haven't before.

Oh, I read it alright, and it really is some of the best stuff around. Just couldn't remember the line.

That's probably Han we're talking about here, eh? And he never touched (in terms of killing) Han, it was just a contract. I was talking about Fett (not) killing young, "easy" Padawans.

I have no doubt that if a rage maddened Ben (supposing he fell for a such a trick) attacked Boba, I think Boba would have sufficient provocation.

Actually...that does produce an idea for an interesting AU Mando fic. Ben get's sicced on Boba. He goes to Mandalore to get Boba, gets captured, and somehow (not quite got that bit yet) adopted by the Mando'ad. Nigh impossible, probably, but it's AU and if I can convince my hardest critic, myself, well then...it's so crazy it might just work...
