Twilight out of print? I really need to check with my LCS guy and see if there's a pattern to what they're letting go out of print.

Don't even think of touching Prelude to Rebellion. Bad art, bad dialogue, bad storyline, Ephant Mon's planetary head. Rogue Squadron, at its zenith of quality, was cancelled for this beginning of a new series. Don't! Dolllff, as it would sound underwater.

2ndQuest, yes it was told like an average Alias episode, but the storyline of Sith fishing in the Senate through genetic testing has but one ending: Sidious cannot allow himself to be discovered. It was okay, but at that time, one of dozens of typical SW stories with naked endings.

Twilight is indeed out of circulation. A true shame. That comic was real good. TFAW, several Amazons, Mile High. But Galaxy from Sydney has it. AUD$29. You can count on Aussies. wink

Alright, throughout my elementary school years and early middle school years I read INTENSIVELY in the star wars univers. I read the entire ObiWan/QuiGon Jedi Apprentice Series, several of the post episode 6 pre Solo children books (Shadow of Empire, Truce Bakura, first five xwing books) Rogue Planet, The first two Jedi Quest books, and lately, just recently, Alliegance. But then something happened, I got the game battlefield 1942 and became intensively interested in World War 2 and then Korea followed by Vietnam and have since lost much touch with star wars and its happenings, often thinking that I'd outgrown it and that I should look up other things.
Well, I was wrong about outgrowing, you're never too old for great star wars literature, and I did other things, and now I'm ready to come back.
So one day as I was lazily looking for something to read at Barnes and Noble, I noticed that there was a deal on star wars paperbacks, buy 2 get the third free, and I decided to take the deal when I found the Legacy of the Force series. They were just the perfect size for what I was looking to read, the covers and descriptions on the back were enticing, and I could easily see that there were just a few books, one/two/three/four, and I could tell what they were about (which is a contributing factor to why I dropped star wars, because I was all confused by the sheer number of books coming out and already out). So I bought the first four LotF books and just recently read the fifth and am trying to get the sixth... but there's a couple things I've been wondering: What the heck was this Yuzhann Vong conflict thingy all about, who the heck is Vergere, why have the movie characters changed so dang much, and what's the backstory of all the solo children, especially Anakin, who is only briefly mentioned several times? It seems so alien to me how the families and clans involved are being separated by such wide voids, I'd really like to understand why. And I knew that Mara and Luke got together, but when I thought about it, hell, I just don't remember when.
SOO, my question to you, fans alike, is what I should do to catch up on the happpenings of the EU and the story and history of the Solo/Skywalker Clan?
I was thinking about starting with the Thrawn trilogy and then going to the Crystal Star, then the Corellian Trilogy, next the Thrawn Duology, Survivor's Quest, and Then the NJO and the Dark Nest Trilogy (those last two especially because of their relevance).
I don't know about this plan though because it's a lot of reading (although I'm commited to reading that much before the LotF finishes next summer).
So really, what books are relevent enough to read, what books would fill me in a lot, and what books should I read just because they are really good, you know, for the heck of it?

The Yuuzhan Vong invasion is the focus of the New Jedi Order series. Vergere was a former Jedi of the Old Republic who left with advance Vong scouts and returned during the NJO, training (and torturing) a captured Jacen Solo in new Force philosophies.

The movie characters have changed due to the passage of time and the events that have transpired within that span. The Solo children's most prominent actions (outside of the young adult Young Jedi Knights series and young reader Junior Jedi Knights series) took place during the NJO. Jaina focused on piloting, flying with Rogue Squadron for a time, Jacen was more morally conflicted about the use of the Force while Anakin was a prominent young Jedi who perished during the war.

Luke & Mara got together in the Hand of Thrawn duology and were married in the Union comic.

I'd suggest skipping The Crystal Star- it's one of the least popular books, and doesn't have any particular relevance to the latter books (as much as the joking Waru love around here might otherwise indicate wink ). Thrawn trilogy & Thrawn duology would be the backbone reading of the post-ROTJ/pre-NJO era (the former is still one of the best SW series, IMO, and the latter ain't too shabby either). The Corellian Trilogy is worth reading given the prominence of Corellia and Centerpoint in the current series. The Dark Empire comic, Jedi Academy Trilogy, I Jedi & the X-Wing series would be the next tiered titles I'd recommend (XW and IJ in particular are worth the reads at some point regardless). Then, of course, NJO and DNT. Survivor's Quest is decent, but doesn't have to be read for the NJO or LOTF (it's best to be read along with Outbound Flight, as they're sort of a reverse-chronology duology of their own).

However if you're looking for a quicker path to get up to speed, I'd suggest either picking up a copy of The New Essential Chronology or browsing entries on Wookieepedia (follow the Star Wars Wiki link at the top of the forum), or using that to help flesh out events beyond whatever titles you're looking to read initially.

How many SW comics series are currently ongoing? Last I was reading them it was Knights of the Old Republic, Legacy, Dark Times, and Rebellion.

I'd start with The New Rebellion just to see how the characters are supposed to be.

I think it is a good way to introduce the characters as a bridge from the movies...they are written as close to the movies as possible and the story is agreeable. Like I said she wrote the characters as they are supposed to be.

Hey all, I posted something similar on a seperate thread before being redirected here - apologies, I must have overlooked it!!

I've not read any EU previously and have just started. I'm reading the post-movies era stuff, and have so far read the Thrawn Trilogy and most of the JAT. Question for you guys is: what should I read next? I'm looking for recommendations really, I've got an eye on reading the Hand of Thrawn Duology and then moving onto NJO, but is there anything else worth reading before/after the Hand of Thrawn stuff before I move on to NJO?

Also, can anyone in the UK recommend anywhere decent online to get the books from? Some of em are a swine to find in the shops, haha.

Ta!

That's so weird. I've read so much I thought I might finally reach back to Bantam and give The New Rebellion a chance. I've owned it for 3 years yet it has gone unread for no real reason. I would always say the best starting point in the EU is TTT, but is New Rebellion a good read?

No. It makes the Jedi Academy Trilogy look like the collected work of Albert Einstein. Well, OK, nothing can do that. But it's a really, really, really stupid book. Han-is-suspected-of-bombing-the-Senate-with-Leia-inside stupid. One-shot-kill-Star-Destroyers stupid. It's just plain bad. Some Bantam works have been more boring (POT, I'm looking at you). But outside KJA's work, none have been so relentlessly stupid. And it's not like the writing is anything brilliant either. It's the kind of book a twelve-year-old would write.
