Well, what he actually does is take out the leadership -- the Underlord and the Vigos. The boss and his top lieutenants. It breaks their power enough to stop their being a threat to Sidious for the time being, but even by Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, the next level down has simply filled the gaps and is recovering. It really takes them until after the Clone Wars, though, to recover their strength and it's only under Xizor that they rise to where they were before. But no, DMSH touches on it briefly, but everything else is pretty much offscreen.

I want to know how good or essential the Young Jedi or Junior Jedi Knights series by Anderson is. Is it on a higher level than the last few Bantam books, save Zahn's Specter of the Past and Vision of the Future?

Also I was tempted by Legacy of the Jedi/Secrets of the Jedi or any Jude Watson while at the bookstore today. How are the Watson books all in all? (the reason Legacy of the Jedi/Secrets of the Jedi interested me is because it was two "kids" books for one.) Nine bucks for a large print 200 page book seems steep when I look at The Last Jedi series.

I haven't read the JJKs, but I've read the YJKs.

I wouldn't call the YJK's essential. But they're the introduction of many of Jaina/Jacen's contemporaries (Tenel Ka, Lowbacca, Zekk, Ranyar). And I personally think they're good reads. I'd say the only drawback is that Del Rey didn't use them as much of a springboard in the NJO - Jaina and Jacen's pals from the series don't appear until midway through (Star by Star), and Jaina's lovelife is still screwy to this day because the YJK introduced one love-interest and the NJO another. Denning has read the YJK books, however, and lately (Dark Nest Trilogy, to some extent the Legacy of the Force) there's been more reference to them.

If you're interested, there's three arcs in the series. The Shadow Academy is 1-6, Diversity Alliance is 7-11, and Black Sun is 12-14. The first two arcs are good, the last one, not so much (although it does have Anakin in one of the books).

The only Jude Watson's I've read are the Jedi Apprentice series. Overall I think they're kind of bland, but there are some nice reads in there.

I know that Corran Horn is in all the X Wing novel series, but to tell you the truth I don't think the X Wing series would interest me that much. I'm more of a SW purist, and like to read the books which follow the whole Luke, Han and Leia vein. That being said, is it necessary to have read the X Wing books prior to reading I, Jedi? WIll I be totally lost if I have'nt read them? Furthermore I know that I, Jedi is in and around the same time as the Jedi Academy books, but which comes first chronologically I, Jedi or the Academy trilogy?

I think you're okay to read I, Jedi without the X-Wing books.

I, Jedi takes place literally at the same time as the Jedi Academy trilogy - part if it relates the events of the JA trilogy from Corran's POV. But you can get away without having read the JA - I, Jedi is pretty detailed on that plotline.

I have both the Jedi Academy Trilogy and I, Jedi sitting on my bookcase and am plannig to read them when I get finished with the Thrawn books. I guess my question is which should I read first I, Jedi or the JA books considering I have them both?

I would read The Jedi Academy trilogy first as it was written first, has more Luke, encompasses several story lines and introduces many new characters we still know in LOTF. I, Jedi is about Corran Horn's experience making the choice to become a Jedi from a Rouge Squadron pilot. It is a very well written novel especially in comparison with the JAT. It does depict Corran's version of events in the first Jedi Academy on Yavin but it is it's own tale. Despite it being much better, I'd read the Jedi Academy Trilogy first. Also, if you don't like the style you can always jump to I, Jedi and it's no big deal.

I agree with Manisphere. Read the JA first.

I also reccomend the Jedi Academy trilogy first. It's a good starting point because it introduces you to characters, and sets up for future events.

This might not be the place to pose this question, but I figured I'd start here before I opened up a new thread.

On the Wook it says something in Darth Maul's entry about him being put through his "final test", where Sidious tells him he has another apprentice waiting in the wings and Maul better step it up. Maul gets enraged, attacks Sidious, etc, etc.

Where the heck is this? I know the Wook is not always the most reliable source, but I've heard this a story a lot and I'm trying to locate what it's actual source is.

Any help? confused

Someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong here but I think you might be talking about Marked, which was a story in Star Wars Tales #24. It's in the 6th volume. I could have the wrong story here but I think it's that one.

I'm fairly certain that test is told in the Episode I Journal: Darth Maul book from Scholastic.

G'Day guys,

I've been reading the EU for about 6 months now. I started with Outbound Flight, mainly because it was a bit of a spur of the moment decision to read a Star Wars novel and OBF was the first book in chronological order that the particular book shop had. After that I read TTT, SOTE and am up to TBW in the X-Wing series. But I've started sort of chipping away at each end of the chronology. I recently read COD, DM:SH and TPM so I'm kind of working forward from that point whilst at the same time working through XW. because the 2 era's are so far apart I find it's not confusing in the least.

Basically my strategy is to kind of read a prequal series then a sequel series. So when I've finished TBW I'll have read the XW novels dealing with rogue squadron era. So I'll jump back to the prequels and read the novels set between TPM and AOTC then I'll read the next 3 XW books and so on. My question is i'm sure I've seen on this forum someone say that the Clone War novels are independant stories and you really don't need to have read 1 to understand another. So because I like to read things in series I was planning on reading all the available RC books in sequence. I know that chronologically there are CW books inbetween the RC books but I thought if they are independant books then I should be able to get away with it and get a full enjoyment out of reading these books togethor. Is this correct or am
I better off reading the CW books in correct chronology?

Reading the RC books in sequence is the best way to go, in my opinion. They're pretty much self-contained.

Yeah, I don;t think any Clone Wars era stand alones really reference each other much at all- Though Labyrinth of Evil might have a few nods, but that's last in that era anyways.
