Cheers guys. That's exactly the answer I was looking for. I was going to read LOE in a series with ROTS and DL:TRODV. So that won't be an issue. Thanks again, this particular board has really helped me find my way through the EU.

Okay, so I've started reading SW novels again after like 10 years or so. I've been trying to stay with the stories that pertain to the original characters Han, Leiah, Luke, ect. So I have gone through all my old books again: SOTE, Truce at Bakkura, the Thrawn Books, and I also picked up a few newer ones that were pretty good like Death Star, Allegiance, and Tatooine Ghost. Now I'm smack in the middle of the Jedi Academy books, and they are pretty good too. But I gotta say, I've been hearing a lot about Cade Skywalker and all the stuff that happens in the future of SW and it has kind of peaked my interest, but I'm not too big on comics. Do the novels ever cover this period in the Star Wars time frame?

No, the novel farthest in the future is currently Revelation, soon followed by Invincible and they're like 100 years earlier than Cade&Co. Legacy is comics-only. Its second TPB comes out this month (some already got it, apparently)...

Someone should consider doing a novel based on that particular time frame for those of us who are not into comics. Maybe a novel based on the Dark Empire stuff too, I read the Thrawn books and then went to the Jedi Academy books thinking this would be a pretty good continuity just to find out that the JA books hinted to all the stuff that happened in the comics like the cloned Emperors and Luke's dark side experience. All that stuff would be awesome in a novel in my opinion...as one who is not so much into comics that is.

You should try to get into comics. You're missing all the good stuff.

As TwiLekJedi said, there is a 100 year gap between the last novel and Legacy Comics. Most of this you may know. After Bantam and the Thrawn Duology at 19ABY it sort of relaunches at Del Rey with the NJO series which is like 19 books, The Dark Nest Trilogy which is five years after the events of the NJO and then Legacy of the Force series begins around 40 years ABY.

And yes, you should take an interest in Legacy Comics. Being a novel reader myself I have to say that Legacy Comics is the best thing in the EU today. Few will disagree with that opinion. KotOR is up there too but as you will see there is no end to the enthusiasm over Legacy and a seeming endless amount of criticism for many of the recent LOTF novels.

Based on all the responses I have recieved, I'll probably break down and get the comics. It sounds like the easier way to go is the TPB's. Is this a correct assumption, and which one would I start with?

If you're choosing to try out Legacy Comics, the first two TPB's are out. Broken and then Shards follows. Those two cover the first 13 issues. Also the TPB's are books so it really feels less like you're buying monthly comic books (which can be crazy making when you get into them cause it never ends and there are often delays and such.) hypnotized But something is always coming out which is nice.

Try out Broken and Shards. Once you're caught up you can decide whether you want to follow monthlies or wait the couple times a year the TPB's come out. The third TPB comes out in June.

This is the link to the Legacy TPB resource thread.

Don't waste your time on the comics until after you have read the novels...they are more important.

Depends on what era you're reading about. The ancient eras, Clone Wars era & Legacy era are absolutely dominated by the comics. Classic, post-ROTJ & the NJO are dominated by the novels.

Okay, so I just finished the Thrawn Trilogy and I want to keep reading, but I heard Jedi Academy sucks so can I just jump straight to I, Jedi without being confused.
And is there any required reading for the legacy books or can I just read those whenever I want to

I Jedi focuses mostly on it's own story, but there'll be references to stuff more fully explained/detailed in JAT every now and then.

I'd suggest the Corellian Trilogy, Hand of Thrawn duology, some of the NJO series (at least Traitor) and Dark Nest Trilogy for the best background on Legacy of the Force, perhaps the Republic Commando series too if you want more of the Mandolorian backstory characters fleshed out. Though Betrayal does a good job of making itself a jumping-on point, you still might want to read a couple of those other ones first.

I might go on to Outbound Flight...then on to the Thrawn Duology and maybe Rogue Planet...then onto NJO.

Jedi Academy Trilogy aren't brilliant novels by a long shot but it is the only depiction of Luke forming the NJO*. Despite the trilogy's many flaws I still maintain it's pretty important and not just from a "you must read everything in the EU" point of view.

Edit: The only depiction other than Corran Horn's experience in I, Jedi that is.

With the JAT, it's just aimed at a slightly younger age in some ways (I don't like to say it's more immature, but it's not as mature as other titles)- but it's high action, Imperial vs Rebel, Jedi vs Sith, crazy super weapons and "**** gets blown up" approach to things does echo the feel of the movies quite well.
