Obie-2-Kenobi - glad you liked Shadow Hunter too. I bet you'd like the Republic Commando series. I've only gotten hold of the first one, but it was great. Plenty of action. The Bounty Hunter Wars are one of my favorites too, but I'm naturally partial there :P

Manisphere - thanks for the advice, I haven't read NJO yet either. Looking forward to it now!

ive been a fan for many years but just recently began the insane task of getting and reading all the books myself. i started with the book Path Of Destruction and then Rule Of Two. the books are about Darth Bane, who in my eyes just may be the most sinister of the Dark Lords. just my opinion of course. but yeah just pick a wave and go with it. im reading the Bounty Hunter Wars right now. pretty damn good so far.

Are the Bounty Hunter Wars relatively new books? I don'think I've ever heard of them. I've read two of the books about the bounty hunters, Mandalorian Armor and Slave Ship I think was the other one. Then there's a third one in that series that I have'nt read yet. To be honest I got kind of burned out on Boba Fett with those books. Those are'nt the ones you guys are talking about though, I don't think?

The BHW were published in 1998-99. Not new at all. Just that no one talks about them cuz they want to forget they exist. I liked them though.

Ok, I'm finally going to ask this. Is The Courtship of Princess Leia a good place to go after Solo Command for Zsinj and chronological reasons (no actual spoilers please)? Most say it's the worst characterization of Han and Leia ever. Some defend it as the best. The Dathomir stuff looks satisfying and the Hapes stuff seems worth reading just because of it's relevancy. Does the Han and Leia stuff stand up today? Did it 13 years ago? I have avoided this book for aeons.

Its probably been 13 years since I've even read Courtship, but what I remember about it is not bad stuff. Kind of far fetched that Leah would even consider another dude after hanging with Han for all that time, but what do I know. It was cool as hell to read just to see them riding rancors. Here I was thinking they would just eat you, but they got saddles on them. Who knew!!

IMHO the characterization of Leia and Han is ridiculous - contrived to fit a romance novel-ish plot.

But I think it begins to improve after the first quarter of the book. I actually quite like it minus the aforementioned characterizations.

I found COPL to be a pretty decent book overall- the Zsinj, Luke and Dathomir stuff is good; I've never liked the Hapans though. And, IMO, Han and Leia's characterization in this book is the only time I've ever really noticed bad characterization when reading a book- it's not something that really registers to me most of the time, but Han & Leia are just outright childish in the book ("Do you love me now?" "No." "How about now?").

The book IS the resolution for the Zsinj plotline, though. The three Wraith books basically were made afterwards to flesh out the backstory regarding events surrounding him.

Or am I mixing up my books again. They were riding rancors right?

'Tis a silly book.

But it's not really that bad. There's nothing really great in it, but only a little that's outright bad. The rest is just sort of meh. Combined with the importance it has, I say go ahead and read it. The worst that could happen is that you never feel the need to read it again.

I give up! I give up! I cannot read The Courtship of Princess Leia. The dialogue just hurts me too much. To come off Solo Command to this. I really grew to love Wraith Squadron because of it's unique mix of characterization and plot. This is like reading some kids book about kissing.
Life is too short. The plot may get better but the dialogue just looks relentlessly bad throughout.

I'm resigned to attempt Cloak of Deception instead. If that doesn't work I'll go to my emergency read, Isard's Revenge. I'm kind of afraid it will let me down though. Is this a baseless fear? worried Such little good stuff left to read... cry

Welcome to the club wink

Cloak is an excellent political thriller. It's been a while, but Isard's Revenge wraps a lot of the lingering X-Wing plotlines up (as well as XWRS comic plotlines).

I've always consider Courtship to be pretty light, fluffy and humorous compared to the other book i've read. The story itself is good but it's definitely not the same kind of writing. I love it but i've always considered it to be like the books you read at the beach, not much to it and just for fun.

You've only read two books, and one of them's COPL? Yikes.
