Personally, I don't think that religion is a main component in the conservative movement. Yes, many conservatives are religious and talk about it a lot, but a definition of the modern conservative shouldn't include a religion. I feel that the main reason why so many religious people support the conservative Republican party is that they are looking for a group that supports their moral beliefs. It just so happens that the conservatives do that. However, religion is not limited to the conservatives. Liberals, or at least Democrats, have been going to Southern churches to increase voter turnout in the past few elections. But I can see where you come from because of the Evangelical Christian turnout for Bush in the past election.

In my mind, the American conservative platform is for lower taxes, states' rights, increased defense spending, fewer restrictions of business and trade, and a strict interpretation of the Constitution. I see the American liberals as being for increased government spending on healthcare and welfare, increased civil liberties for minorities, more government control on business, and a liberal interpretation of the Constitution. The current issue of activist judges can be applied to both sides of the political spectrum: some lefties want judges that will always rule their way, some righties want judges that will rule their way (I think that the judge should rule based on the Constitution...)

Damn, this is turning into a dull thread!

I'm going back to my manuscript and blow some stuff up.

To jump us back to 000-000-000, Karen, do you have any news on the cover art yet?

Of course it's gonna be dull when most of the topics deal with stuff your not able to speak of yet.

However going back to the Boba Fett topic. I do wonder how Fett goes from Bounty Hunter to Leader of the Mandalorians. Of course it's more than leader of the Mandalorians. Fett now rules over a people and a sector(with more species in it I'd assume). I'd also assume that this big jump must effect him personally, as his original job was in essense much simpler.
Plus Fett feels some big shoes, since Shysa was the one who basically did all the hard work, Fett's just got to keep Fenn's legacy going.

The only thing I'm going to say is that political affiliations (in N. America at least) seem to be increasingly split along right-wing and religious/traditionalist, and left-wing and multicuturalist/agnostic lines, and it doesn't look as though there'll be any turning back.

I'm going to go put the finishing touches on an awesome plotline that will demolish anyone who experiences it.

US conservatives don't want you to read that because it was written by someone who espoused free love in "Stranger in a Strange Land" and anti-authority messages in "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" and "Rocket Ship Galileo" and opposed the encroachment of religion in government.

You know-- this is actually a good thing for the rest of us. If we continue to be completely boring, maybe TZ and LOTF will be back-to-back explosions and action.

thanks for the essay.. Roz Kaveney covers some of the same ground in the chapter on dissecting Paul Verhoeven's Starship Troopers (the director as parodiest) in "From Alien to the Matrix: Reading Science Fiction Film".
