Yeah, I'm hoping those classes make their way through...I like the idea of the Nebulon series starting with a large carrier "A" model, moving down to the frigate "B" model, and then perhaps something smaller as a "C".

Actually, I'm just hoping Beauregarde makes it as a ship name reference- I love how that's spelled/sounds ::)

And yeah, Maria was an XWA reference- I've never played the game, but from the Endor roster thread progression, the Maria was one of the "not in the CCG" cruiser names that stuck out to me.

His name I came up up with from different places- Lothos was the name of a vampire in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie (never saw the series really, but the name in the movie always stood out to me for some reason) and Memnon is taken from Agamemnon (and not Memnon the villian from The Scorpion King wink ).

I also cannot go into the epic journies of the daringly brave R5-2Q at this time. shhh wink

I thought you named him after Achile's son (I just can't spell that name in english)... wink
Great thing about the Y-Head frigate! Hope she finally becomes "official" and get's a class name.
By the Way, does the Clone Wars era republic correlian frigate, I think it was Centax class has a Databank entry? Anyone up to write about it? happy

I think the Maria predates XWA -- it might have been in the original X-Wing. while Beauregarde sounds cool, i'm not too sure it fits the SW galaxy enough because it sounds too much like an earth name.. same deal with the Yamatos (esp. since there is a U.S.S. Yamato in Star Trek, also named for the WW2 battleship).

i guess we will just have to wait for the adventures of the amazing R5-2Q...

heh.. the first beauregarde i thought of was general pierre beauregard from the US civil war, and there seems to be no inclination to name SW ships after human names in real life (other than the Maria).

Having been inspired by Quest's and Card's success, may I present my first entry, for Rob Coleman's Opera Patron:

Mix Dayne

Few families in the Bormea Sector have earned the prestige of the Chandrilan Daynes, and as the twilight of the Republic approached, the durability of their renown was proven without question by the exploits of middle child Mix.

The elder brother on the fast track to greatness in the realms of politics and philosophy, the younger spirited away by the Jedi in their most highly publicized “adoption” since Dooku of Serenno, young Mix Dayne grew up something of a malcontent.

When Mix was fifteen, the family visited Oseon to see the astronomical phenomenon known as the Flamewind. While exploring their resort on Oseon 6845, Mix was abducted and held for ransom by a pirate group known as the Norulac Freebooters.

The Flamewind’s resultant radioactivity blocked all local traffic and communications, severely hampering search and rescue efforts, and the standoff lasted a grueling three weeks. While the details of what happened amongst the Freebooters during this time are unknown, what is known is that, when the exchange took place, Mix himself made off with his own million-credit ransom. He would not see his family again for twenty years.

Eventually Mix resurfaced at the Freebooters’ helm, leading some to wonder if he hadn’t orchestrated his own kidnapping. Making no attempt to hide his identity, Mix led raids throughout the Inner Rim, making the Freebooters a household name.

As the Clone Wars came to a close, word reached Mix that his father, a respected diplomat, had died amidst the chaos of the Battle of Coruscant. Against his better judgment, he went to the capital for the funeral. His appearance resulted in a bitter confrontation between Mix and Jave, his older brother, and Mix was forced to flee the gathering, ducking into the surprisingly ill-guarded Galaxies Opera House to avoid the authorities.

Shaken by the experience, Mix stepped down as head of the Freebooters and began a lower-profile – though still not entirely legal – career as a dealer in smuggled artifacts.

What is the limit? Is it 2,000 characters? I must have gotten confused, as I thought it was 2,000 words!

no.. it's 2,000 characters, which is not the same as 2,000 characters in MS Word's 'count characters including spaces' function.

Coop- in the future, you may want to wait until after a new one is posted (or at least until friday when most people have already made their submissions since new one sgo up on Fridays) before posting your current submission- less likely to influence others or be copied.

I loved the fact that he made off with his own ransom, though. grin

Ha! tongue

Maybe comparing notes is a good idea, so we don't have to worry about that kind of overlap. And I don't mind people being influenced by mine anyway; if they manage to make it even better and get chosen, more power to them. happy
