Congrats everyone!

Melee
Born on Pyjridj under dubious circumstances, a young Melee was sold to the Rybet spice dealer Sload Bigganonol and sent to his Tatooine safehouse, to work as a slave. It was on Tatooine that she became friends with the young boy Anakin Skywalker. An athletic child, Melee often ridiculed Anakin for his mechanical pursuits, especially his tendency to stay and tinker with his podracer, rather than play smashball. As Melee became older, Bigganonol noticed her physical nature, and began training her in various combat skills, planning to use the athletic young woman to disrupt his rivals businesses.

After a few successful missions for her master, Melee was sent to Mos Osnoe in an attempt to kill the crime lord Boorka the Hutt. Although she was captured by Boorka’s guard, the Hutt elected to keep her alive, seeing her potential as a special agent. Her first assignment for Boorka was to eliminate Sload Bigganonol, which she gladly performed.

When the Clone Wars broke out, it was not long before the fighting came to Tatooine. Following intelligence provided by Jabba the Hutt, General Echuu Shen-Jon attacked Boorka’s stronghold, freeing Melee and the other slaves during the assault. Using her skills, Melee managed to stow aboard Shen-Jon’s flagship, and once detected by the clone troopers, avoided capture for three days. Impressed with the girl’s prowess, Shen-Jon offered her a place in the Grand Army.

As a Republic special operative, Melee participated in many tours, including Krant, T’olan, Altyr V, Oko E, Sleheyron, and Valgauth. She was stationed on Tellanroaeg when Order 66 was issued, and she helped her fellow soldiers destroy the Bothan Jedi Glynn-Beti. Under the Empire, Melle continued her role much as before, now hunting down fugitive Jedi and hidden Rebel traitors. In this capacity, she often operated under Darth Vader himself, unaware that the Dark Lord was, in fact, the innocent boy she’d once known. If Vader himself recognised her, he made no indication of this.

Just a question here, Kast.

This:
Unfortunately, Frix's career spiraled following a terrible collision involving another starfighter during a training mission over Gerrard V

seems to be a Rogue Squadron 3D/64 reference. Is it? Cause I seem to remember TIES always running into things in that level...

thinking

The X-wing and RSB refs were great, too.

Valin Kenobi posts around here sometimes, I believe

I really like it that the ones that get chosen are by those with EU knowledge.

Sort of. Gerrard V is a reference to Rogue Squadron, but I wasn't specifically referencing that level.

Frix never made it to Rogue Squadron, so I was creating the assumption that after the liberation of Gerrard V, the Alliance used it as a training ground.

*cups hand to ear* Do I hear my name? wink Yeah, I drop by every once in a while.

Congratulations to my fellow winners! applause

Possibly interesting factoid about my entry for General Yavid:

In my original submission, the last line of the third paragraph was as follows:

"He even secured a ceasefire treaty with Morag the Tulgah witch--who, if she put her mind to it, could probably have wiped out the Marauders with her arcane Force-magic that Charal feared and envied."

And it was changed to:

"He even secured a tentative peace with Morag the Tulgah witch, who -- if she had put her mind to it -- could probably have wiped out the Marauders."

As you can see, my attempt to officially nail down the Ewok series magic as Force-derived was nixed, which I pretty much expected (retaining that air of mystery and so on). As well as the suggestion Morag was more powerful than Charal--I guess they didn't want to let me paint any future stories (however unlikely) into a corner. thinking

It doesn't bug me too much; in most of my WTS entries I toss in stuff like that, that I don't really expect to survive if that entry is ever chosen. wink

I loved the backstory for the short Maurader; it was nice to see the characters from the movies and cartoons blended. So the Mauraders are now enemies of the Phlogs, and they made peace with Morag--nice! grin

Thanks Talon!

In fairness, I can't take credit for the Phlog reference: the draft I submitted had Dandelion Warriors instead. Duloks and Dandelion Warriors--maybe "They" just didn't like the alliteration, who knows? wink

I figure the Marauders would be enemies of everybody (not likely to be making any new friends on Endor, I'd wager!) and that if it had come to an outright war, the Phlogs could have literally stomped them out. Combined with the fact the Phlogs came from the other side of the moon (right?), I speculated they and the Marauders hadn't had much contact. (Looks like I was overruled on that, which is fine.)

As for Morag, I knew she and the Marauders would be natural rivals--even though they both were enemies of the Ewoks, neither seemed likely to ally against the mutual foe, and the Marauders (at least) seemed to depend to some extent on keeping the Ewoks around for raiding, instead of wiping them out. My original submission said "ceasefire treaty", only going as far as implying Morag and the Marauders weren't at war any longer, but the substituted "tentative peace" seems to imply a little more.
