That African-american pilot is actaully named Mak Case. I remember reading that a guy did a custom fig of him and found that name in some old Lucasfilm documents.

About the update, or what? confused

I mean that if it turns out that this guy already had a name, then the powers-that-be over at the TOS could be pressed into making an update. Of course, it would be doubly as nice if the update was written by fans, too...

here's my Ongree:

Hailing from the Skustell Cluster, Tass Shumill was an
accomplished pilot and trader. He often bought and
sold along the Hydian Way in his Byblos Drive Yards’
F-8 freighter, the Keelstar Navigator. When not
shipping stem bolts to Bogden or alta-wave calibration
devices to Malastare, Tass searched for new
opportunities on Coruscant. Because Ongree were
relatively rare on Coruscant, Tass began impersonating
Senator Sweitt Concorkill to avoid Coruscant’s customs
officials. Avoiding inspections allowed Tass to
smuggle contraband onto Coruscant, making a generous
profit.

While he cared little for politics, Tass knew
that political shifts could spell success or failure
to the independent businessman. Days before the
outbreak of the Clone Wars, he completed a delivery of
illegal gizkas to an Ithorian biologist in The Works.
Afterward, he went to the Outlander Club, one of the
few places where he could buy drinks palatable to an
Ongree and where he could hear the latest news from
both from Republic sources and sources allied with the
growing Separatist movement. After hearing the latest
gossip about a failed assassination attempt on a
senator, Tass headed back to his ship.

On his way
through the Uscru entertainment district, he felt the
crowd tighten around him – a burning airspeeder
crashed in the street, with its driver running off,
chased by a young Jedi. After the crowd dispersed,
Tass was watching the holovids on the street when he
spied an armored rocketman flying onto the roof of a
nearby building. Tass deduced that Jango Fett’s
presence was connected to the attempts on Senator
Amidala, which meant that war was probably imminent.
Seeing a business opportunity, Tass immediately
acquired cases of Blossom wine imported from Naboo.
Several days later, as news of the Battle of Geonosis
reached the Keelstar Navigator, Tass sold the wine for
a hefty profit on Cato Neimodia, now cut off from
trading in the Republic’s luxuries. For some
risk-takers, war was good for business.

whipped it up late thursday night - didn't try to spackle anything, but rather simply reference various things - his ship might be a predecessor to the Mist Hunter, we got alta-wave calibration devices, blossom wine, gizkas, Uscru, etc. the stem bolts came about as a reference to the self-sealing stem bolts from DS9 (jake and nog use these as a trade commodity)

Nhemal Skroob had always demonstrated strong inquisitive tendencies that stood out from her fellow hatchlings on Onansamr. Upon graduation from journalism school she was hired by a planetwide news publication, but groundbreaking stories were scarce on her homeworld’s fungus ranches and purple seas. Yet her dedication and thorough reporting got her recruited by a Skustell Cluster regional affiliate of the popular HoloNet News, and she was eventually transferred to HNN’s Coruscant branch. She gravitated toward the interface of politics, celebrity, and commerce, covering influential VIPs like Simon Greyshade and Miltin Takel. The night of the 2nd assassination attempt on Senator Amidala she was pounding the pavement in the Uscru entertainment area looking into rumored questionable activities by Skustell’s own Senator, Sweitt Concorkill*, and witnessed a certain airspeeder crash in the thoroughfare.

Conveniently, Skroob’s exposé was bumped by war coverage from Geonosis. Soon the Confederacy invaded the Skustell Cluster. Concluding that ground combat against the entrenched Loyalist partisans was futile, Grievous ordered Onansamr’s largest landmass bombarded from orbit. The Cluster was reconquered but Onansamr’s ecology and infrastructure lay in ruins. The Ongree retreated within their borders to rebuild and were rarely seen abroad until finally drawn out by the Diversity Alliance.

HoloNet News became Imperial Holovision and Skroob found herself thwarted at every turn by smothering censorship and increasingly blatant pro-human bias. As an alien--and a particularly exotic one--she was unofficially blacklisted from holding a job at the major Coruscant newsfeeds. With insufficient credits saved to get offplanet, Skroob sank into the murky undercity like too many starry-eyed arrivals before her. She entered the employ of Dalla the Hutt, putting her investigative skills and contacts to use; her recon helped Dalla quash several rival gangs like the Sligo Pirates.

NOTES:

1) Pablo Hidalgo mentioned in the Hyperspace Drop Box Q&A that Pablo-Jill was named in reference to Pablo Helman and Jill Brooks of ILM. As you can see, I took their respective surnames and scrambled each one. "Skroob" also serves the double purpose of being a Spaceballs reference. grin

2) Miltin Takel is a socialite who later became a part of the Emperor's court and an Imperial Grand Admiral. (Mainly from the guide to the GAs feature in Insider).

3) The Diversity Alliance is from the Young Jedi Knights series, 23ish years post ROTJ. It was a political movement made up entirely of aliens, against the New Republic.

4) HoloNet News --> Imperial Holovision is from the latest Insider (#84).

5) Dalla the Hutt is from either The Courtship of Princess Leia or Dark Apprentice. I also used him in my submissions for Magaloof and Kalyn Farnmir.

6) The Sligo Pirates were from ... somewhere or other.

* 7) Looks like we all screwed up on Sweitt Concorkill.

From Leland Chee's blog and comments:

"Sweitt Concorkill was originally supposed to be an Ongree Senator, which is why the Coleman Kcaj image was used for the ROTS Visual Dictionary. The clothes were changed from Senate robes to Jedi robes and the character's name was changed to Coleman Kcaj because the CG modelers completely redid the Pablo-Jill model."
and

"In my current notes, Sweitt Concorkill is supposed to be the Vurk seen in Palpatine's box at the Opera House. Aside from comments I've made on the boards, I'm not aware of any published source that identifies the Vurk as Senator Concorkill. But given that a character in Jedi robes is identified as a Senator in the Visual Dictionary, I'm inclined to call it an error."

I only realized this after I'd submitted mine. Hopefully whoever vets the entries will catch and correct this.

This week we get a ROTS Imperial Officer, Lt. Oicunn, as seen on the star destroyer at the end of ROTS.

here's what i got for Diva Shaliqua:

Diva Shaliqua
It was whispered there was only one way out from being a slave dancer for Jabba the Hutt: death. Diva Shaliqua refused to believe it. Born Cheldi, she was sold into child slavery to Dardo, a Rodian vigo in Black Sun. Dardo sent Cheldi to the Diva dancing school. There Cheldi befriended the red haired Foon Kitap. After five years, Cheldi earned the title of Diva and chose the name Shaliqua. Dardo then had Shaliqua trained as a spy, but without combat skills – Dardo did not want to follow the path of Walla the Hutt, who had paid for Aurra Sing’s assassin training by Anzatis and was later killed by Aurra. Master of both dance and intelligence gathering, Shaliqua was sold to Tatooine slave traders secretly, and was eventually purchased by Bib Fortuna for Jabba’s entertainment. Pleased by his plan’s success to have an agent in Jabba’s court, Dardo promised to buy her back after two years. However Jabba knew of the Diva’s connection to Black Sun. Over several months, Shaliqua sent reports back to Dardo on Jabba’s dealings, not knowing that Jabba occasionally provided her misinformation.

Just before the Battle of Naboo, Diva Shaliqua accompanied Jabba to the Mos Espa podrace arena, and was reunited with Foon Kitap, now called Diva Funquita, employed by Jabba’s business partner, Gardulla. During the race, Funquita reported that Black Sun had been destroyed mysteriously, and Dardo was dead. With her escape plan lost, Shaliqua nearly fainted in her revealing metal dance costume. Excusing herself, she contacted a local Black Sun agent who confirmed her story. After the race, she and Funquita plotted to have Gardulla buy Shaliqua to annoy Jabba. Jabba wasn’t bothered as he instructed Shaliqua to spy on Gardulla in return for eventual freedom. When Gardulla fled Tatooine to avoid slavetrading charges, Jabba kept his word and freed both Divas. In gratitude, Diva Shaliqua sent back the dance costume Jabba liked best. Settling on Commenor, Cheldi opened her own dance studio.

this story ties into the Darth Maul comic (Dardo was introduced in this, and killed by Darth Maul when he took down Black Sun), settles whether Diva is a name, species or title and brings more reference to Aurra's Song, and Gardulla's fate, as well as the metal bikini, which is what Leia wears in ROTJ.

This Lieutenant Onion (whatever) could turn out to be interesting. Can someone try and work in a name for the Star Destroyer he's on? Since it's apparently Vader's pre-Devastator flagship, it deserves a name.
