Someone ought to use the HIMS prefix if they name any starship. It'd be nice to have that canonized. Or, hell, to have any prefix canonized.

Remember the custom? Rodians dress alike. All Rodians on Tatooine probably wore the same outfit at the time.

why do we need prefixes for imperial ships.. for nearly all the ships, there's no question whose navy they belong to.. belonging to the only government on the block. no need to use earth conventions.

Those of you suggesting justifying the clone figures realize that a marginally canon WTS entry supporting the rediculous minimalistic clone numbers will do nothing to actually make those numbers correct. Just as it was with the Executor' length, it doesn't matter how imbedded something is, if the films disprove this, it is wrong. It was always wrong from the moment it was published. So including it in a WTS entry won't make the booboo any better.

Might i suggest that people use their submissions for this guy to possibly ironout aspects of the recent numbers debate? (ie: work in an example of a large amount of droid losses) I think it might help some people's sanity...

Thank you for a text book example of why I question if these databank entries should be accepted as canon.

God ... it goes in the Holocron, so it's canon.

Besides, you can't tell me that if someone snuck in some other retcon that agreed with your particular position on "Issue X", you wouldn't be applauding it.

T2Q: I know you were kidding, problem is there are people around here who will do it.

Besides, you can't tell me that if someone snuck in some other retcon that agreed with your particular position on "Issue X", you wouldn't be applauding it.

Paid author submitting it to LFL where it gets a through examination where the retcon can be modified or axed? Yes.

Random fan who can change something merely by writing a creative entry? Hell no.

That's the major difference to me - the level of official control.

Let's say you take Position X on a certain issue (clone army size, Star Destroyer nomenclature, pick your poison). Now let's say Fan Y puts a retcon into their entry and manages to get that into the Databank.

Are you honestly saying you wouldn't immediately dub that canon and seize onto it as ironclad evidence in support of your Position X?? I have a hard time believing that. We all would take that evidence and run with it--it's only natural.

Besides ... they haven't revealed the details of the approval process, but rest assured it's not like any random **** just gets posted to the Databank. The entries get vetted and, if needed, modified to make sure only the "kosher" stuff survives. The nitpicky-detail changes made to my own entry indicate that someone in there cares and is paying very close attention to what gets approved.

I should note that the stuff for this goes through the exact same process as anything else that becomes canonized.

Seriously, they don't just go, "Wow, this looks good enough to me." and bung it straight in there.

ROTS novel clearly established prefixes for the Republic's ships, so it stands to reason there would be such a convention in the Empire as well.

Besides, I'm always puzzled at how some things (naming of ships, rankings, etc) are "earth conventions" yet other blatant earthisms (wedding ceremonies, FirstName-Surname, "Hot chocolate") are totally acceptable.
