Hopefully. I'm looking forward to see which ROTJ BG Ship wins... (and praying Quent's entry makes the cut).

Hedec: thx wink
Arf: I had the same thought on the Dubravans! I also considered the ambig-sourced Mikoans, a Rebel race subjected to Warlor Delurin said to look just like humans but green skin.

Som: What race did u use?

No, it was only I who asked. I checked when the "What's the Story" updates have been made in the past and this Monday could fit, that's why I asked if something had been said.

Nah, it will be 4-6 weeks yet, if the timing of past updates are considered.

Past updates considered, there was about a 7 week gap between the round 3 and 4, so maybe we should expect an update soon...

The new WTS candidate is up!

In the meantime, here's my bit for the Baboon Man.

Bok Zannim was born of a human mother and unknown Falleen father shortly before the end of the Clone Wars. In the Lower City on Taris, the half-breed was viewed with disgust and morbid curiosity. His mother, a spice addict, sought to sell her infant son for a fix. The man she propositioned was, in fact, Jedi Master Voolvif Monn. Monn, often regarded as a loner, took pity on the child and even recognized a spark of Force ability in him. He took Bok to Coruscant. Though Bok was young enough for training, the Council deemed that his attunement to the Force was small and would never blossom.

Monn meant to return Bok to his mother, but she had run off with a lover, giving no more thought to her baby. The Jedi felt responsible for the boy’s fate and put him into the care of an orphanage on Taris.

After the formation of the Empire, Imperial recruiters visited orphanages, looking for young men to join their ranks. Because of his mixed blood, Bok was overlooked for pureblood humans, but Lord Vader sensed that Bok had an uncanny ability to feel the presence of those strong in the Force.

Using his ability to track Force-sensitives, Bok became a hound, of sorts, for the Empire during the Galactic Civil War, sniffing out Jedi who had escaped Vader’s purge. Working for Moffs such as Wilhuff Tarkin and later his aide Bast, who survived the destruction of the first Death Star, Bok was responsible for the deaths of many Jedi, including Tallisibeth Enwandung-Esterhazy, Kai Justiss, and even Monn, unknowingly killing the Jedi who had cared for him as a baby.

Finally, a very powerful Falleen named Prince Xizor noticed him. Xizor was looking for one Jedi in particular – Luke Skywalker – and Bok, drawn to the Falleen man, hoping that the Prince was his own father, scoured the galaxy for Skywalker, finally finding him in a cantina on Halm. Bok made his report and was delighted to see the pride in Xizor’s eyes. The Black Sun head thanked Bok for his efforts…and killed him.

I just liked the sad, tragic angle of an outcast, looking for his place in the galaxy...but never finding it, and actually being responsible for the death of the closest he ever had to a caring family. cry

Nar Hida...Nar Hideous clothes! laugh

Marrek Warttrosser

When a geological disaster struck the remote, arid desert world of Phoros and rendered it's surface blue and green with water and plantlife, the native Phoribians began a mass exodus off their planet to other desert worlds such as Halm, Bakkahm & Tozeer- leaving the isolated Phorosi, Phoros's other inhabitants, behind with no starships.

One Phoribian, Marrek Warttrosser, made his way to Tatooine and established himself as a small trader. Considered a fair and reasonable businessman, his reputation helped pay for his reliance on alcoholic drinks. His clientele would eventually include Crimson Jack and his crew, supplying powerpacks, pants, electronic components and food to the pirate's expanding operation.

However, fearing imprisonment, Marrek eventually ended his contact with Jack shortly before the Battle of Yavin, when Imperial snitch Trinto Duaba began suspecting their connection. To further cover his tracks, he even began frequenting cantinas at times he knew Trinto did not.

Between the loss of the Crimson Jack arrangement, the different hours he was forced into by Trinto's suspicions and the Imperial curfews locking down Tatooine businesses, the next year was fairly rough on Marrek.

An unexpected encounter with a Phorosi named Yaar Paro provided Marrek the chance he was looking for to turn his fortunes: Yaar would provide contacts for processor cargo, to which Marrek would contract to buyers in advance. Yaar's share would then pay off a debt.

With the buyer contracts arranged, Marrek traveled to meet the suppliers- only to find a group of armed Phorosi waiting instead of the processors. Though Marrek managed to escape with only a single blaster wound, the debt created by the lost contract would force him out of business.

He eventually learned that Yaar's scam to ruin him was one of hundreds inflicted upon other Phoribians by vengeful Phorosi, making the Phoribian curse of "Yaar azim!" commonly heard in many cantinas.

Notes:
-Mainly tried to explain why his kind would be on so many desert worlds at a cantina in yoda's Stories, and why they'd say "Yaar azim!" ::)
-Crimson jack, and his visible lack of pants, is from Marvel
-Trinto Duaba is from the CCG
-The Imperial curfew is from the Holiday Special, as is the notion that he was there during a different "shift" than Wurher
-I also liked the idea of a race considering a planet becoming all plantfilled and water-plentiful as an "ecological disaster" based on their species vantage point of an ideal environment.

During the Clone Wars, as a show of force to the beings of the Bajic sector, General Grievous had the desert world of Savrian wiped of all life. Only a handful of the native Talchi survived the disaster, and they found themselves without a home. Beris Kykyne was one of them.

Kykyne had been an author on Savrian, and like the other refugees had only survived because he was off-planet at the time. He was outraged to learn that all Coruscant would send was their sympathy; not a single credit arrived for the displaced Talchi. Left to their own devices, the people dispersed, heading to other worlds similar to their home to try to eke out a new life. Unfortunately, these efforts were hampered by the intervention of slavers, many of them part of the Tenloss Syndicate. With little to defend themselves, the Talchi were easily taken, and within a year half the species was enslaved.

On his way back to Savrian, Kykyne was captured. Though he defended himself well, leaving one of his captors with a missing ear for his trouble, he was soon taken and sold to a Black Sun spice mine. For fifteen years he toiled in its depths. Eventually, the local Moff grew tired of the rampant criminal activity and sent in a raiding fleet. In the confusion, Kykyne secured a ship and escaped.

Once free, Kykyne set out to rejoin his people. He found small settlements of them on Halm, Bakkah, and Tozeer, but all were so wretched he did not stay long. He finally reached Tatooine, where he joined a small group of Talchi priests in Mos Eisley. Kykyne took up work writing again; though the people of Mos Eisley were not the most literary type, they enjoyed the tales he had to tell of his slavery. Clad in traditional Talchi robes, Kykyne often visited Chalmun’s Cantina; he never got along with Wuher, and preferred to go when Ackmena was on duty.

Kykyne never forgot the Republic’s treatment of his people. When the Empire collapsed, he looked at the New Republic with as much disdain as the old one.

As I mentioned, it's more about Yoda's Stories than the Holiday Special.

The Bajic Sector is right between the Sluis Sector and Tatooine, indicating why his species would be found in worlds presumably near Dagobah and Tatooine. The "traditional Talchi robes" explains why they're all dressed the same. Like The2ndQuest, I used the idea that Ackmena had a different shift and that his species came from a desert planet.

Yeah, that was a clever touch.

Hehe, I had quite a lot of fun with Baboon Man in the end. I ALMOST named him "Babun Maan", but ended up naming him after a Wookieepedian instead.

I made him a member of the Sayormi species from Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees.

I made references to -
* Chalmun and his stint as a con-artist on Ord Mantell
* Eport and Bidamount (I named the planet, also after a Wookieepedian) - Star Wars Tales 7
* Reelo Baruk - Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
* Kar Yang, the bounty hunter that no EU ever touches - Shadows of the Empire: Evolution
* the Quockran species, because they look hilarious
* Kashyyyk
* Boordii - Star Wars: Rebellion (game) / Heir to the Empire
* birraki - a new alcoholic beverage
