Here we go:

Janu Godalhi

Janu Godalhi was a decorated constable from the planet Teth, and was widely respected among the law enforcement officials across his planet. Teth's location in the Outer Rim, not far from the sieges against the Separatists and the lawless area of Hutt Space, made it a difficult place to keep law and order, but Godalhi was committed to breaking up the criminal gangs that plagued Teth.

In spite of his success in this endeavor, Godalhi's true passion was for galactic history. When an opportunity arose to attend a security workshop on Coruscant along with top Tethan officials, he readily accepted. Taking along his young son Palob, Janu made frequent trips to Coruscant's vast libraries and archives when he was not attending the workshop. In the evenings the two frequented the Galaxies Opera house, where Palob was inspired by the dramatic recounting of events and heroes long gone.

During the course of the workshop, Janu discovered that the entire event had been organized by a group of criminals in order to draw away influential law enforcement officers from the Tethan system. He alerted Teth's newly-appointed governor, Sarn Shild, who was able to counter a pirate attack staged from Hutt Space.

Janu had approved of Palpatine's election as Chancellor and his subsequent assumption of emergency powers, but was shocked by the Order 66 massacre and the supposed "Jedi rebellion". His close relationship with Plo Koon had brought him great insight into the Jedi Order, and his knowledge led him to believe that Palpatine was not what he appeared to be. Encouraged by the success of early rebels such as Cody Sun-Childe and Ferus Olin, Janu joined the Tethan rebels, joined later by his grown son Palob.

After the defeat of the Emperor, Janu and Palob retired from military service, and wrote many history books and articles, sometimes collaborating with Nad Ecallaw and Nosaj Yrf. In historical circles, they are as highly regarded as Arhul Hextrophon and Voren Na'al.

We've got Plo Koon, we've got multiple Han Solo Trilogy references...this one was fun. grin I had to cut "Leba Anep" to make everything fit, though. sad wink

heh.. i tried to make someone who didn't connect into that many existing plot lines:

Janu Godalhi made his living as an hard-working
cryptologist and part-time journalist. Janu's mother,
Merssa, was a captain in the Tethan militia, while his
father, Vanklu, was a teacher at a technical school.
As a young man, Janu pursued studies in music, but a
civil uprising on Teth ended his academic career.
Merrsa found him a position with the local
constabulary as a codebreaker. Janu's ear for
microtones in music became an ear for identifying
secret messages hidden in broadcast transmissions.
After the Tethan uprising was peacefully resolved in
part to Janu's police fieldwork, Janu kept working for
the constabulary, but also took time to enjoy the
performing arts, writing articles on local concerts
for the Teth Daily News.

Invited to speak on audio codebreaking at a
cryptography conference on Coruscant near the end of
the Clone Wars, Janu took the opportunity to explore
the high culture of the capital world. His chance to
attend a performance at the renowned Galaxies Opera
House was interrupted by a holocomm call from Teth:
his wife, Inwe, had just given birth to a son, Palob.
Beaming with joy on the way back to his box seat, Janu
barely noticed the Jedi hero, Anakin Skywalker,
running by in the hallway.

Years later, Janu Godalhi retired from law enforcement
work but continued writing reviews of the performing
arts, even making documentaries on the sets of
different operas. Palob followed in his grandmother's
footsteps, joining the Tethan military to resist the
Empire.

Here's mine:

Three years prior to the Clone Wars, this Tethan constable led a task force aimed at removing Hutt influences from the system. Specifically targeting the assets of Decca the Hutt, the two year long operation forced her to abandon the holdings she had inherited from Gardulla (which were subsequently absorbed by Jabba) to reinforce her standings on Teth.

With Decca having also recently lost Mawan, the signs of weakness turned the other Hutt syndicates upon her- just as Janu had predicted. Faced with a conflict on two fronts, Decca's interests quickly fell to Janu's squad and the Hutt influence was finally purged.

The return of power to the local government, combined with Janu's fame for his efforts, led to his appointment as Chief of Homeworld Security. His policy proposals would strengthen the planet's ties to the Republic and ensure the Hutts could never regain their foothold of influence on the planet.

When the Clone Wars erupted (and while his son, Palob, attended a security academy) Janu was invited to other loyalist worlds as a security consultant. One such workshop was held on Coruscant itself.

It was on Coruscant that word of the implementation of the new Moffs reached Godalhi- distressing news, as he was not ready to replace the Hutts so soon with someone else. Before he could contact his government about the issue, a Confederacy attack delayed the workshop and his arrival back home and his concerns raised to others about the matter during an event at the Galaxies Opera House were dismissed..

Janu finally returned home following the declaration of the Empire- only to find, much to his dismay, that the newly installed Moff Shild had already revoked several of Janu's policies, once again making Teth receptible to the Hutts.

Janu's subsequent protests cost him his job, but his continued efforts began turning public opinion against the Moff. Shild, in turn, arranged Janu's assassination. Though Janu was now dead, his supporters remained.

here's my Corey story, which i had to trim a little bit to fit the 2000 character limit:

Many Mos Eisley residents tended not to pay attention to the plain-dressing Swilla Corey, but “Swindlin’ Swilla” preferred it that way. As a petty thief, Swilla sought to blend into a crowd, and usually it paid off, in the form of pickpocketed credits and identichips. Being a thief in such a dangerous atmosphere has its risks – most victims are likely to respond with a vibroknife or blaster than by calling the local authorities, but by her victim noticed the theft, Swilla would already be out of sight.

Swilla Corey arrived on Tatooine as a stowaway after a rough childhood on Commenor. Unable to find honest, steady work in Mos Eisley, she turned to begging and minor theft. After several months, she earned the nickname “Swindlin’ Swilla” in underworld circles after conning three of Jabba’s thugs out of a landspeeder with a cargo of spice. After that notorious incident, Jabba’s rival, Lady Valarian, hired Swilla for a few months to train some of Valarian’s new recruits in the fine points of stealth, sleight-of-hand, and sweet-talking. Her employment with Valarian was suspended when Valarian suspected Swilla of stealing a Whiphid idol from her office. Swilla regained Lady Valarian’s trust by finding the actual thieves, a pair of Ranats, and stealing the missing statuette back.

Swilla normally wore the simple garb common Tatooine’s human population, but her clothes concealed her tools of the trade: hidden pockets, lock picking tools, makeup and a small knife. She often preyed on drunks leaving the bars and cantinas of Mos Eisley, either luring them outside to a dark alley, or simply following them into the crowded streets until an opportunity to relieve them of their purse or wallet came along. Most of the regulars in the cantina were dangerous targets, but occasionally an easy mark was found – like a farmboy naïve enough to try to bring droids into the cantina. Before she could work her way up to Luke Skywalker, his older companion fought off some ruffians with a lightsaber, and Swilla realized the boy wasn’t worth the trouble. Still in the confusion of the barfight, she did manage to slip away with the security clearance card of a new arrival from Ralltir.

I worked her into Greedo's Tale (as I saw she sat back down at the same table as Greedo after Kenobi sliced up Ponda Baba) and made some cantina CCG character connections to a few characters, one of which was The Prophetess, but in retrospect that particular connection didn't go very much anywhere so i probably should have edited that out to expand on some of the others, alas.

I rather like the origin of her name that I came up with, however- if anything of my entry sticks in the final version, I hope that's it (though the Greedo connections and ending I think are interesting).

And, ah, what the hell- new one goes up in a couple hours, no harm in posting my entry now I suppose...

Swilla Corey

By herself with no recollection of her parents or even her true name, this local Mos Eisley girl was called Swilla by spacers (after the fishing vessel whose rotted hull she could often be found sheltering under). She eventually took the common name of Corey as a surname, hoping it would avoid attracting attention.

Considered a petty criminal by most, she lived in the shadows of the spaceport, often earning credits teaching her thievery skills to others, such as Reegesk- though that apprenticeship quickly ended as Corey soon saw the Ranat's unwillingness to discriminate what he stole, be it trash or treasure.

Though preferring theft, Swilla was also known to broker information- particularly to an Imperial agent called the Prophetess (who rewarded her with Imperial latitude on her record).

She later facilitated a meeting between a bounty hunter she often worked for named Goa and the Rodian, Thuku regarding an associate of his- another Rodian hunter named Greedo.

She accompanied both Goa and Greedo to a cantina to claim a bounty on a Corellian smuggler named Solo. They were all startled out of their booth when a brawl at the bar broke out and was ended with the unexpected stroke of a lightsaber.

Swilla saw an opportunity and moved in to steal the (no doubt valuable) weapon- however she suddenly somehow found herself convinced it wasn't a very good idea and returned to her seat.

As Greedo awaited an opportunity to approach Solo, she spotted Danz Borin (a rival hunter to Goa). Swilla lurked her way over to his vicinity to delay him from moving in on Solo before Greedo.

Though Greedo soon fell to Solo's blaster as planned, Swilla's efforts with Borin led to a scuffle between the hunter and Kitik Keed'kak, which killed Reegesk in the fray and left Borin severely injured.

Swilla fled, but Borin survived his injuries and sought revenge, tracking Corey wherever she went. Despite many close calls, she managed to stay one step ahead of her hunter.

As you can see I did squeak in some TFTMEC revenge on that damn Ranat though, as well as my favorite CCG cantina character- Kitik Keed'kak wink

I had hoped to maybe address how a fishing vessel from the Clone Wars era ended up on Tatooine, but I didn't have the room...I had hoped to imply it was connected to her past (which explained why she sheltered under it since she was young).

btw- has anyone, by chance, saved the images provided for John Knoll and the Mos Espa Spaceman? I've only been saving them since Magaloof.

heh.. i tried to be more subtle in my CCG references -- Reegesk might be one of the Ranat thieves, but you should be able to figure out who the Ralltir refugee is...

and i used Danz Borin in spaceman's WTS.

1. John Knoll's cameo as an opera patron in ROTS.
2. Mos Espa space man in TPM
3. Magaloof, Mr. "What the?" - Coruscant chase in AOTC
4. Janu Godalhi (Pablo Hidalgo), opera patron, ROTS.
5. Swilla Corey, cantina scene, ANH.

yeah, I agree I was tad less subtle in my references than I probably should have been- but, shy the Prophetess, that's more the result of me having to trim back the character count, which removed some of the subtleties revolving around them.

i kinda go where the storytelling takes me, and then see if i can work in a reference.. i actually thought about yerka mig making a bigger entry than he did, but the lady valarian stuff seemed to fit well.

which do you like better? characters with a complete blank slate (spaceman, Knoll) or characters that have a little bit established around them (Swilla, Magaloof, Janu)

Dear Swilla met her end due to the Yuuzhan Vong. However, since she was a thief I mentioned that at one time she tried to steal Killik Twilight.
