WhillJedi posted: Shorter Insider articles? I hope not. Most of their articles already seem short to me.
I can confirm that it's the new reality. It posed quite a challenge for Vader's Legacy. Still, it seems StarWars.com is pretty keen on having some more supplements from me, so all may not be lost.

Aye?
Aye. In the short story, Dark Vendetta, IIRC, which is available on Hyperspace.

Super_Battle_Droid posted: Oh, I also would've like to have known where Grievous kept all his lightsaber trophies, cause I'm sure he was lugging them all around in his cloak.
I always invisioned a room in the Invisible Hand of them in glass cases, and with a few Jedi heads mounted on the wall.
I had something similar in mind, and thought to include it in a section on the Invisible Hand for Lord of War (save for the severed heads). Time, time, time.
wookieepedian1 posted: Hot damn. I leave for a month and a half, and come back to find 35 more pages accumulated over one month. Just to confirm, I finally got my issue Saturday and enjoyed it immensely without any spoilers from here or the wiki. Now to read back 30 pages...
I'm glad to hear it, wookieepedian. I always try to go spoiler free into most new stories, but at this level, it's becoming difficult if not impossible.
kecen posted: Grievous has no real feelings for family or friends?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
That shatters just about every pre-cyborg and "deep delving" fan work in the Grievous fanbase, thankyouverymuch, >:(
Aww, kecen, you're breaking my heart!
Anyway, the point is that Qymaen did care about family and friends deeply and intimately before Ronderu's death. Afterward, everything changed.
kecen posted: Wasn't this article written for the fans?
Absolutely.
kecen posted: ...Grievous is still a Mama's Boy.
And Grievous is now the Galaxy's biggest shameless you-know-what. Now that you've answered all the necessary questions.
He sure is. But again, he wasn't always. That's the point. The transformation just started before he actually got turned into a borg.
kecen posted: Excuse me please, it's just that what would Grievous angst be without things to angst over?
Angst away.
Take care,

Are the Jedi that are killed in the Tokyopop just the Dark Jedi, or are there others, good Jedi?
And are there just two Dark Jedi killed by Grievous?
Would you also happen to know when the story takes place?

Biddybot,
Thanks for taking the time to post an in-depth analysis, and for your appreciation. Much obliged, brother.
Biddybot posted: Anyhoo, here back 'atcha is some response from one old bat of a Grievous fan who was already an adult when the first Star Wars movie hit the theatres... On the whole, I thought you did a commendable job of creating a Grievous background which, firstly, acknowledged a LOT of the official appearances the character's made to date. That couldn't have been easy and you collected and addressed just about all the ones I'm aware of very well.
Thanks. You're right, it wasn't always easy. Trying to see the connection between the youngling-kidnapping psycho, the bad-ass capoeira fighter, the intelligent strategist, the tragic revolutionary, and the coward was a challenge to say the least.
Biddybot posted: Secondly, I think you did an equally good job of coming up with a good background for what I see as Grievous' main target audience. It was more complex than I expected and I found plenty of the sort of stuff I know kids like, and the illos were very well suited in that sense as well...your Grievous ultimately came off seeming rather like the space version of an Afghan tribal chief and warlord, given a tad of a PC whitewash to make some of his actions a bit more palatible, or at least that's how he came off to me.
That about nails it. I guess the "whitewash" angle was introduced by the Visionaries story, and instead of ignoring it, I milked it for everything it was worth. But in Star Wars, as a saga about choices, and the fine line between free will and destiny, Grievous remains to me a clear-cut villain. His actions are understandable, but not justifiable to me, and I tried to drive the point home with such things as his eradication of the Huk on Tovarskl, his release of the Loedorvian Brain Plague, and his pride, his pride, his pride. But just because someone's evil, doesn't mean it's impossible to empathize with them. In fact, we see our own worst and misconstrued qualities in bas relief.
Biddybot posted: My only real disappointment--and this is coming from a more personal and adult level now--is that for a guy who's supposed to be an alien, Grievous sure doesn't act like an alien. In fact, if it hadn't been for my own prior knowledge and the odd mention of Kaleesh being tusked and reptilian and such (and the illos, of course), there's absolutely nothing in either article that would have made me think the Kaleesh were anything but a bunch of space-going SF humans, different culturally perhaps, but not so in any important biological, mental or emotional way. I suppose there just wasn't time to think out a whole different species background per se from the evolutionary roots up, yet still wish there could have been a few tiny hints of some profound differences, sigh... BUT, again, that's mainly personal preference. SW aliens as a whole have always struck me as seeming more like goofy-looking ethnics than science-based, other-worldly species anyway, and that never bothered me before, so even I have to admit that it seems a bit petty of me to whine about this at all just because I've finally found a SW dude who really interests me...
I feel you on this one. Particulars about Kaleesh biology just weren't relevant to the story I was trying to tell, which had to work within the confines of an established continuity and a limited word count. But I'm sure Ann Lewis and Helen Keier will come up with some nice details on the Kaleesh for the New Essential Guide to Alien Species.
Biddybot posted: In closing then, good job, and thanks once more! I'll be keeping an eye out for any further addendums to your Grievous work to date, and do hope you consider doing more 'Grevousy' projects in the future.
Many thanks, Biddybot! We've got Vader's Legacy in a few months, and I'm currently working on a new project with that other irreverent rogue Ryan Kaufman. They'll rue the day they teamed us up!
And folks, thanks to everyone who wrote into Insider with their thoughts and praise on the The Story of General Grievous. My new editor, sounding a bit shocked, said he got a mountain of positive feedback. Again, I thank you.
Take care,
Abel
