yeah, this election is really weird... they hoped to get the politics going again, but it seems its all getting even worse, less certainty. well, it isn´t over yet.

The Republic's ships were not a military navy, but an anti-pirate security force. Basically a glorified police force in space. The homegrown navies of KDY and Corellia or the corporate fleets of the Techno Union and IBC were more than a match for what the Republic Judicials made use of. In the grand scale of things, ships like CR90 corvettes or Dreadnaughts are quite insignificant when compared to the battleships of KDY. The Judicials followed the same philosophy as the Jedi Order: Keepers of the peace, not soldiers.

the republic had no reason or a greater military. it just had to have a small fleet to ensure the safety of those worlds who can´t protect themselves, or to guard diplomats and freighters. and that´s it. like other posters already said, police forces, guard duty, national guard..

Um... back to ships: what, exactly, is "Judicial"? tongue

The space cops, answering to some sort of Minister of Justice rather than a Minister of Defence (or Attorney General rather than a Secretary of Defense, whichever.) The closest equivalent to a Republic military seems to have been some sort of Coast Guard/UN Peacekeepers/RCMP (ok, ok, FBI) hybrid. HoloNet News retconned Terrinald Screed into an officer from the Judicial fleet, didn't it?

Thrawn McEwok posted:
To me, the attempt to remove the Old Republic Navy from continuity is the absolute worst, dumbest retconn in existence. I don't mind them being marginalized by the executive/bureaucracy. I don't even mind if fleets and their bases are treated as member states rather than federal resources. I'm emphatically more than happy for the ground-troops to be "a poorly-trained police force with fancy uniforms" (Imperial Sourcebook, p. 44) with each nominal unit under the operational and financial control of the planet it's based on...

Poorly trained police force? Sounds like exactly the sort of space cops we're talking about. 8)

Mind you, I'd also prefer it if the Imperial Navy and Army didn't spring completely out of nowhere as AOTC implies, but I suppose combining the Judicials and the Clones with local forces put under Imperial control and building up for 19 years would get the Imperial military into the state it's in during the original trilogy. I haven't read this insider article -- is that the gist of it?

oh, and I forgot the best reason for the republic to not need a fleet/army: Why built one if hiring the Mandalorian Merc Army was cheaper? ^^ now a story about them hiring Mandos would rule... not only warlords and planetary leaders can hire them.

*sigh*

And two hundred Katana-class Dreadnaughts designed to operate in synchronized formation are desigend to deal with what sort of pirates, exactly? raised_brow thinking tongue

S_D: okay... is there any evidence, though, that "Judicial" duties exclude a slightly more proactive military role? I mean, no-one else is doing it...

CH: well, the Dreadnaught Cruiser is meant to be based off a Mando design...

Personally, I can't help feel that if the Mandos knew their cap-ship was being knocked-off by mere police, that would be a war all in itself... tongue

And on that note - should we go elsewhere and discuss this? Sorry for dragging your thread OT with my mini-rant, Karen... blush

I guess the rest of the world will have to wait until some kind soul scans the article and posts it so we can join in the discussion praying

I haven't got a copy. Just the PDF file for proof-reading.

And I think this thread is a new TF.N record; three pages from the first post before it gets back onto topic!

It's not spam. It's just...off-topic.

shame_on_you

No, I'm not a hypocrite. Whoever told you that was, um, delusional. Anyhoo, any word on whether or not actual recruits from various worlds (Human or near-Human, of course - remember that little hint at Imperial xenophobia from Labyrinth of Evil?) were wearing the white to fill in the clone trooper ranks before the execution of the Separatist Council and the deactivation of the droid armies?

Finally, a question on the article! shock

What kind of information did you add about vehicles, specifically walkers? And did you add anything from Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns?

happy

So drink one more round on me
Let’s sing an old melody
Hold your drinks up high, and toast the night
Hold your baby strong, help me sing that old song
I think that one more drink, might do me right
