	Both sides have been at fault in this -- that's why I'm looking for pledges from everyone. However, the point that if you disagree with Karen, then leave her alone, is a good one. I think you've gotten your point through to her. She isn't going to change her mind and neither are you. So instead of incessantly complaining to her about one subject, just let it slide, discuss it with others, but don't ruin her experience. Let her post in peace and don't force it into a numbers debate. I agree that three million is way too few. But I've read the article and the way the number is presented is sufficiently ambiguous that I feel able to let it slide and retcon it up. But please, don't ruin the boards for her and don't screw over all the people who genuinely do enjoy conversing with her. Think about it -- wouldn't you leave too if every post you made, anwhere, people kept turning it into an argument about something you don't have much interest in and incessantly going after your position on it? 	wut Honestly, I can't remember the last time I honestly just started flaming and hurling insults at people in the debates over numbers. But ships are more my thing than ground troops, so I don't know what exactly went on here. I will continue to support the push for realism. I will also sign this petition, with the caveat that I do not believe that VIPs are somehow infallible, nor should we treat them as such. Calling them on perceived errors is to be expected, as this is a messageboard. I'm going to iron this situation out. When users are driven away from this board by the actions of others, be it Mara fans, VIP's or just typical posters, I don't like it. It reflects bad on the Lit forum and, by association (IMO) on me. I'm still catching up and reviewing the situation, but this will be dealt with. The last thing we need is another Salvatore situation or another ridiculous "OMG! SSD length!" debate dragging threads off topic whenever it arises. Can I just applaud this mod? People let's try not to take our fiction and internet too seriously. Especially to the point that it makes us look bad. Really bad. C'mon now. She didn't have to come on here and discuss things like this with us, after all it is only fiction and fictional characters in a fictional world. 	I take it my post was completly ignored then? I pointed out that it is a fact that no one flamed, insulted, belittled, or was rude to Karen before she left, nor did anyone complain inccesantly, or turned every post she made into a "numbers argument" or any of the things that have been suggested. This is undeniable, I mean she posted only a handful of times after the perceived problem was pointed out, where was all this abuse? There wasn't any, a few people criticised her in a perfectly "legal" manner and she left very shortly after, this is indisputable, so why do people keep lying and saying she was somehow chased away? This happened over the number of Clones in an army...in fiction? It's fine to want things to be just so in continuity, but if there's disagreement, just shrug it off, I say. 	As I have pointed out before, it was not that single incident that made her leave, IMO, nor was that perhaps her only reason for leaving. She very well may have previously made the decision to leave the boards - indeed, I suspect that is the case, based on the posts she made. Regardless, that she was slammed so much after the fact - no matter how deserved or not you think it is - would tend to maker her a little wary of coming back, don't you think? Moreover, this thread is not about what she did or did not do. You've completely missed the point. This thread is about pledging to treat people, in this case VIP's, with some respect and to make sure that there's no reason they would not want to come back. This is about maintaining better standards for behavior in the future. This is related to what happened in the past, but not dependent upon it. This is, quite simply, unchanged by whatever did happen. The flamefest that arose before/after/whenever she left was uncalled for, in the opinions of the majority of people on these boards. THAT is the point of this petition - to make it an environment friendly enough that she might consider returning. If you don't want to sign that petition, then you have other reasons not to. 	What we're saying is respect the VIPs like you'd respect anyone else. Only I'm not seeing much respect for (frankly) anybody at all from a lot of the offenders here. Respect the VIPs, especially because they are taking time off from their busy schedules and talk and discuss and have fun with their fans and answer the fans' questions. They don't have to do that. We who are pushing this particular proposal are (as I've noted before) arguing the opposite. Feel free to disagree. Never have we suggested that you can't disagree, argue, critique, whatever to your heart's content. We do, however, feel that a lot of people have gotten out of hand in the way that they flat-out disrespect the other board users in general and the VIP's in particular. Do they deserve special treatment, per se? No, as I've said before. Do I think it behooves us to be a little more careful in the way we approach people like them? Heck yeah. Regardless of whether or not you think they're too easily offended, a lot of us rather enjoy the opportunity to interact with them. To have that cut off by a very small but very loud-mouthed minority is rather unjust, and blasted annoying, too. All we're asking is that everyone - on both sides of the debate! - pledge to NOT bash each other's positions in unwarranted ways, or to make useless comments? Holy crap, did anyone actually read Havac's proposal? He said that people on both sides should stop using the same tired and useless attacks on each other - no more "It's fiction, get a life, you moron" just as much as "It's the facts, you're an idiot for not liking our retcon", and stick to good debating. Does anyone actually disagree with that proposition? I can't understand how eliminating uncalled for and honestly useless flaming is something anyone can have a problem with. Maybe I'm just dense, I don't know. Or perhaps some people just don't want the authors back. People can disagree with anyone all they want- but they are expected to do so in a civil manner, and not hound any user persistently. There's no reason to take the fun out of this for anyone, regardless of their user status. Argeed. How many thread's have gone to the dogs, because a Flame Fest has started and got out of control? Most people don't Like these sort things to drag on... even the people that are caught in the Flame Fest probably just want drop it and move on.
