So I finally tracked down Insider #84, after never receiving my subscription copy, and in Ask the Master, Pablo categorically states that RotS takes place over about nine days, meaning that either the twins were conceived far more than five months earlier, meaning not just before Obsession as we (well, I) had come to believe, or they were born 4 months premature. I can realistically imagine babies in the GFFA surviving that early of an induced birth (despite the fact that they're freaking huge in the movie happy ), and I can also realistically imagine - due to artistic license - that Padme's really four months pregnant as of Obsession #1, but it'd be nice to know for sure either way. Have I missed anything official regarding their conception and/or prematurity, or is this not yet resolved?

PS - You know, the Lumiya banner's pretty nice looking, but all this pink is making me nauseous.

In light of that information, the twins probably weren't very premature. Probably a week at the most (although she looks way to thin to by 9 months pregnant with twins tongue ) Although that brings up the queston, why didn't Padmé tell Anakin in Obsession that she was pregnant. Why did she wait till it was almost time for her to give birth? Is it possible that like the average lifespan, the pregnancy in the GFFA is different then normal?

Maybe she didn't know she was pregnant by the time of Obsession, and when she found out, Anakin was out in the Outer Rim sieges. She didn't have time to tell him until RotS.

What stories take place 9 to 10 months before RotS, when the kids where probably conceived?

I was going to thread this topic last week . . . but just couldn't be bothered. Not because Desann is seriously wasting half an hour of every night, I find it bonkers to think Hayden neither saw her buldging belly or radar sensed its contents. Before anyone says he was a long time away in the outer rim sieges, or she wore concealing clothing, bear in mind they bedded together and that implies peculiar acrobatics.

I still demand to know how Maul tracked them to Tatty, and how Palpatine can possibly use wizardry to hide metres from other wizards.

Yeah, if she were 4 months preggers in Obsession, you'd think Anakin would say something like "You seem to be picking up a little extra weight, Padmé, maybe you should go to the gym more often."

Dramatically speaking, that's the perfect time for the conception to occur, since it's the last time he sees her before finding out. But it doesn't look possible now.

Oh, I ranted and raved about this topic not long after the first "week-to-nine-days" timeframe was first bruited about by LFL, the Obsession conception then the accepted window...about the only Anakin-starring stories that we have around 9 to 10 months pre-film are his appearance in Zahn's Changing Seasons short story duology from the Insider (+24 months), and Jude Watson's Secrets of the Jedi (+29 months). Jedi Trial occurs one month later.

She's clearly four-and-a-half months up-the-stick in the comic series, but you wouldn't know it by looking. Clearly neither did Blackman or Ching.

In Dark Nest, Tenel Ka used the Force to slow down her pregnancy. Maybe someone used the Force to speed hers up?

Maybe this "someone" was one who knew a certain something about adjusting the midi-chlorians to induce life?

Help me, I'm turning into McEwok! shock

Hmm... if Anakin meets Padmé five months and nine months before RotS, but is more than five months pregnant in RotS and less than four months pregnant in Obsession, the only logical conclusion is that Anakin isn't the father of the twins...

And I'll note that in RotS, we only think Anakin is wrong to think Kenobi was there "with" Padmé... we have no on-screen indication for when he let himself out of the toilet...

Then again, the Prequels are merely composite (re)constructions based on Artoo's memory banks (note that most of what Artoo shows in DN3 is essentially bluescreen footage)...

The twins' mother died when they were very young toddlers, with Leia hiding in a chest and Luke running for blind life into the dark... when her husband swept in through the ice and snow with a wing of TIE-Interceptors and vengance in mind...

But Kenobi was there, and if you go down far enough, you must hit magma - that much we do know...

Coming soon to a thread near you... grin

I haven't read 'Obsession', but it could be possible that Padme was already three months along? Quite a few women find out they're pregnant at three months, and it doesn't really show that much. The twins could be one month premature- although as CooperTFN pointed out, they certainly don't look premature.
Oh well. Maths was never my strong point anyway.
